Well, With less than a week away from the next big UFC pay-per-view, I thought I'd go ahead and make an official thread and go through the rundown. Main Card [glow=red,2,300]Main Event[/glow] Rich "Ace" Franklin vs. "Dangerous" Dan Henderson Light-Heavyweight Fight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Mark "The Hammer" Coleman Middleweight Fight Dennis Kang vs. Alan "The Talent" Belcher Welterweight Fight Chris "Lights-Out" Lytle vs. "The Irish Hand Grenade" Marcus Davis Middleweight Fight Jeremy Horn vs. Rousimar Palhares Preliminary Card Antonio Mendes vs. Eric "Red" Schafer Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann vs. Alenandre Barros Ivan Serati vs. Tomasz Drwal John Hathaway vs. Tom Egan Nate Mohr vs. Dennis Siver Abdul Mohamed vs. TBD (To Be Determined) Not a bad card at all. I've seen worse. Should be a great card. Lookin' forward to it.

Gotta go with Henderson and Shogun. I'm picking Henderson as well, but I'm going with Coleman instead of Shogun. Both of them should be great fights.

I actually like this card a lot. Lytle/Davis could be a great fight. I'm very interested in Belcher/Kang as well.
Shogun/Coleman is also rather interesting, simply because of the age/style differences. It'd be great to see Shogun reestablish himself, but it'd also be awesome to see Coleman make at least a small run if he can win.
Franklin/Henderson, to me, is awesome on paper, but I fear it'll be a quick fight. With Wandy and Nog both getting beaten in ways they haven't been beaten before (at least in the case of Nog), I could see this one end with Hendo finally being KO'd. I'll still be rooting for Hendo, but I don't see this one going his way.

I want Coleman, Franklin, and Davis to win. Those arent my predictions but those are who I want to in. Should be a great PPV...

For those who haven't seen Kang fight:
vs. Murilo Ninja Rua (Shogun's brother)
vs. Marvin Eastman

Can someone please tell me why Jeremy Horn is a guy with like over 100 fights and has very limited success in the UFC.... Other than handing Chuck his first loss?

Yeah it is pretty interesting how many fights that guy has had. He's only 33 and he's already had 103 fights. That has to be some kind of record. Probably 2nd behind Travis Fulton.

Well he seems to fight a lot of lesser name opponents in random MMA leagues across the US. He's certainly taken on some upper level fighters (Anderson Silva, Big Nog, Arona, Liddell, a green Forrest Griffin, and so forth), but he lost almost all of those fights (minus the first Liddell win, and I think he knocked out Forrest in their fight). He's still a solid fighter despite not really beating anyone of relevance in awhile. I think his last "big" win was over Chael Sonnen, but that was a few years ago.

Well he as been criticized in the past for putting far too much effort into training other fighters, instead of training for his own. I'm not sure if that's still a problem for him, but I know it was a couple of years ago. Unless he can shake that issue, he probably won't go far above where he is now.

i am really, really hoping on henderson coming ontop in this one. with his previous losses i think he has to be on the up, although he is getting older now. henderson over franklin.
it will be cool to see coleman again but i'm seriously doubting him. he's how old?

I really want Rich Franklin to win. I think the guy is such an entertaining fighter. I keep going back and forth with this fight. Henderson is wreckless when he thinks he has hurt a fighter and that is when he leaves himself open. Franklin doesn't have the power Dan Henderson has but he is still a great striker and a very intelligent fighter. Ughhh...but I have to give this one to Dan Henderson.
Coleman will beat Shogun...I know I'm crazy for thinking that but I think he will beat him and he will beat him convincingly.
Davis vs. Lytle is a fight I am really anxious to see. Two exciting fighters and hopefully if Davis can pull off the win it will mean a chance for him to get closer to a title shot.
now I thought this was free on spike...but I guess I was wrong. So we have 2 PPVs in one month?
thats bullsh**.

I can understand why this isn't free. I doubt UFC would want to give away their first event of 2009 for TV.

Man, I REALLY hope Horn pulls out this win...he has looked god-awful lately. I've always been a fan of Horn's despite people who label him a 'boring' fighter and whatnot. He's a perfect example of how having great technique can overcome not being naturally athletic. I love watching his KOTC fight against Vernon White. Yeah, it's not top level guys in there but there's something to be said for watching two B level fighters go at it who are evenly matched. Hell, Gatti and Ward were B level pugs and they put on classics...not a lot of technique in there, but classics nonetheless.
I'm digressing.
Pulling for Coleman. I've always said I'll be on the Coleman bandwagon forever, and I'm not getting off now. If he can waste Shogun he'll literally be thrown into the mix of one of the deepest weight classes in the UFC; hell in MMA period. He's got a real tough road ahead though. Long period of inactivity...age, one-dimensional training camp...and he's facing Shogun, as if that **** wasn't enough. There's always a chance though. People tend to forget, even IF Shogun's arm hadn't broken in the first fight, Coleman would have taken him down and had his BACK. Whether he could have finished is another story, but still, it would have been a great position and it doesn't take too many hard shots to the dome from Coleman in that spot before you're out of there. I'm going to just go with a feelgood pick and say Coleman. Shogun's injury and the road back from it has shown ups and downs...I'm not convinced he's 'back.' So many unknowns going into this, but hopefully it'll clear up damn near 3 years of confusion and heated argument. One clear winner and no chute box/hammer house brawl.
Dan's gonna smoke Rich. I honestly don't see this one going back and forth really...Dan is categorically better than Franklin in a lot of respects, especially at 205. I give Dan the edge in wrestling, punching power, chin, and clinch work. Rich's only advantages would be a SLIGHT cardio edge and marginally more accurate hands and diverse striking. Subs aren't going to be a factor in this one. You've got two guys who when presented with a sub opportunity, are more apt to go for the GnP. I see the fight working out to where Dan pressures Rich in the clinch, works him over against the cage, and secures multiple takedowns for brief periods, then works it back up standing and trading for a bit, repeat. Rich has a more accurate kickboxing game, but he does not hit like Dan.
The overarching thing here is this: Rich is not as 'world class' as the UFC marketing machine would have your average fan believe. In the insular world of the UFC, where champions and challengers are made and broken by the matchmaking and hype put behind them, it's easy for the average fan whose only MMA outlet is the UFC to believe that guys like Loiseau and Tanner are world-beaters and Franklin is the be-all end-all of middleweights. After all, they see Rich obliterate Nate Quarry, after watching "the Rock" demolish the likes of Shonie Carter and Pete Sell, and they think Rich therefore has to be top of the food chain entirely. Enter an outside force, someone more battle-tested against WORLDwide top competition, like Silva. Silva wrecks Rich up and down the place and people are confused because for the longest time they've been told and 'shown' Rich is the best out there. Sometimes what Joe Silva, Dana, and Lorenzo want you to believe isn't entirely true. Enter Dan Henderson. Unreal battle tested. Gritty veteran who has faced THE best at 205 in the WORLD. This will be a Silva situation again. Dan's just on a different level, and that's not Rich's fault. I feel bad for Rich that the UFC put as much hype as they did on him...that's a big burden to bear.

WOO! FRANKLIN ALL THE WAY!
And I think Shogun will come into this fight with a grudge. He'll have a score to settle with Coleman and Shogun will get his revenge. Although I'm a huge Coleman fan Im giving it to Shogun.

Davis vs. Lytle is enough to make me buy this PPV.
