The NWA Convention, currently going on in Charlotte, NC. This is a large, wrestling convention that I attend each year.....always some big stars (this year, Sid no-showed and Terry Funk said hello to me as I was leaving) and plenty of dealers, especially figure dealers.
I went, taking some figures to trade (among them a 1/1000 Hurricane), however, I didn't see any, and I repeat ANY Mattel wrestling figures.......not even one for sale or trade.
I spoke to several dealers, even some figure dealers......all of them said they hated the new Mattel figs and one guy kinda made fun of me because I insisted I like them.
I told them it was like 'Coke' & 'Pepsi'......I like both Jakks & Mattel, some figures are better than others-which can be said of both companies.
I was just really surprised that seemingly no dealers there were interested or wanted to sell Mattel figures. Here are a few photos to prove I was there, enjoy:Good ol' JR, w/the Powers of PainSunnyThe Rock's dad, Soulman Rocky JohnsonSome Jerry Lawler memorabilia, who oddly-was NOT there
Oh....one last thing, I saw Tony Atlas buy his own figure....he said he never had one-and Highspots was too cheap to give him one.....made him buy it!

How can anybody hate the Mattel figures? They're the best wrestling figures ever made.

"I hate them there Mattel figures!" is what I imagine some angry North Cackalacky dealer saying.

Kicking myself for not going.
I can't understand why people would dislike the Mattel figures. Seems really odd to me.

I wish I'd been able to go... Especially since Sting was announced to be there this year. And JR is there.
Oh well, hope you're having fun, aside from the mattel issue. Those sellers are idiots though. Even if they do dislike mattel, why would they not sell them? It doesn't make sense.

I can fully understand how people dont like the Mattel figures. Its and NWA convention and NWA is signed by Jakks. That should be thought #1. The other is that Mattel figures still look cartoony. Its being a dead horse over and over that you can like what you want but Ive noticed from taking to older people that they feel Mattel figures look like cartoons.

I don't understand how people can think that the Mattel figures look like cartoons. They look AND feel way more realistic than any Jakks figure ever made. The bodies on Jakks figures look so cheap and weird, and the heads are massive, the scale is way off, and the arms and legs are unrealistically huge. I can understand that everyone has different opinions, but I really can't see how people say Mattels figures look like cartoons more than Jakks. Just comparing an Elite Randy Orton to a DA Randy Orton. The Jakks one looks cheap and cartoony, whereas the Elite Orton looks perfect and more realistic It's body is exactly like Orton's, unlike the DA figure. Not to mention the fact that the tattoos on any Mattel figure looks way more detailed and realistic and is identical to the original tattoo, but the tattoos on Jakks figures look like they were drawn by a 2 year old. I'm sorry, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but anyone that thinks Jakks makes better figures than Mattel is most likely in denial and doesn't want to admit Mattel is better, for whatever reason.

I would imagine the dealers don't like the Mattel figures because they already have an inventory of Jakks figures and don't want to invest in new/more product. They may also have concerns that people will no longer want the Jakks figures if the Mattel ones are seen as better.
I don't think that Mattel's figures look cartoony, but I do think that Jakks TNA DI line look like roid-ed up bobble-heads.

It's probably becauase Mattel is still fresh onto the classic/legend scene and haven't gotten show what they've got. Wait till The Von Erichs, Macho Man, The Rockers, etc. etc. start hitting.
These old timers won't have *** left to say about Jakks. Imagine if Mattel ever found a way to sign names like Flair and Hogan.

Hey I own 5 Elite figures and 0 DA figures. Its a common thing though so something must be there. Many people feel that Mattel figures are cartoony. I personally dont mind the Elites but I myself thing the Basics are cartoony myself. Also, you've struck my interest in something....how the F does a figure feel realistic? It doesnt feel anything like skin and I dont think.....at least I hope, you havent been rubbing up on wrestlers to see what their muscle tone feels like.

Obviously I haven't been rubbing the figures, I don't have to do that to know that they feel more realistic. I'm just saying the plastic feels like it's a much better quality than Jakks. I don't know how to explain it.

i have heard this from many people at conventions, i worked as a vendor at a convention 2 months ago and i had my 1/1000's for sale and didn't sell any of them (they werent priced high either) and i had all my jakks figures that i brought with me sold by the end of the day, it was pretty shocking

Also, you've struck my interest in something....how the F does a figure feel realistic? It doesnt feel anything like skin and I dont think.....at least I hope, you havent been rubbing up on wrestlers to see what their muscle tone feels like. Fun Fact - Jakks actually made a series of dolls called G.I.R.L. Force that had life like bodies, including feel. They latter cancelled the line do to complaints from parents for being too real. Since Jakks was making the WWE figures at the time(1999-2000) I decided to further support them by buying one for my niece. It was almost a "Real Doll" for little girls. With the exception of the crotch piece, the entire thing was "flesh". I think the biggest complaint from parents were the boobs. They had nipples and felt real(as real as you can get in doll). Here's a picture of one from ebay - cgi.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED/Pretty-Jakks-Pacific-Dark-Hair-Doll-W-Life-Like-Body-/150474956453?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2
