For those who might not see this, we just got what I consider to be VERY disappointing news: (from the Basic 8 in stock thread) Can someone from Ringside confirm or deny that there are no display stands with these figures??? Confirmed, man. The day of the display stand is over, at least with these, it looks like. Opened them all yesterday, nothing inside... Now, I display my Mattel WWE figures proudly and absolutely LOVE the way they look on the stands. It makes them look prestigious & important in various ways. Those stands were one of the big reasons Mattel won me over. Now this isn't a whiny / complain thread, however I am just curious if one of the Mattel guys who visit the board can explain what the deal is with the stands. I understand you don't really owe us anything, but if there is a legit reason for cutting the stands out I (along with many others) will have to graciously accept. If it's just something that couldn't be done for Series 8, that's fine too. So basically can we (the collectors & enjoyers of the stands) get some insight into what is going on with them?

That is weird that they would just suddenly stop at series 8 Gotta be a good reason for it, so hopefully Bill or someone from Mattel could give us a reason.

Probably for the budget... Just a guess, but I'd prefer detail over stands any day.

Guess you don't appreciate what you've got till it's gone. I never saw the stands as that big of a deal, but looking at the Mattel WWE stuff I have, the stands really add something to the presentation of the figures.
I guess it's not a stretch to assume they've only ditched them for the basic line. I guess the stands coming with elites and legends only could allow for them to justify the higher price.

they took them away from the basic... but do u think they will still come out with the elites seeing that its a more of a collector set and they put more money into it? cause i only collect elite and the stands looks great with them.

Most likely either market testing said they were useless (put a bunch of kids in a room and all they want are the figures, not the stands) or its about cost cutting.

don't like this for 2 reasons:
1) presentation...indeed,really,not many figures come with stands, not sure if ANY come with name-logo's on the stands...it helped stand them out from the rest of my collection...
2) some of my figures CAN'T stand without one of them, mainly the Diva's...

This really blows. I like the way they look with the stands and nametags. However, this should create more room for display.

Probably for the budget... Just a guess, but I'd prefer detail over stands any day. right, but Mattel obviously isn't going to cheap out on details. They haven't yet. I'm sure they aren't going to stop. I just can't see how a little piece of plastic & an even smaller piece of cardboard would cut into the budget that much.

I just can't see how a little piece of plastic & an even smaller piece of cardboard would cut into the budget that much. Actually don't be so sure of that. Card stock, ink, colour printing is an expensive job. There also had to be an intial investment in creating the mold to made the plastic stands, not to mention the cost of oil to make the plastic. Add in factory labour and overheads and it becomes quite the expensive operation. And I like the stands too, but I can see that it does impact the bottom line.

That really sucks. I would have been happy if the could have at least gave us the name plate, but cut the actual stand itself. I have so many extra that I would have been okay with it.

Most likely either market testing said they were useless (put a bunch of kids in a room and all they want are the figures, not the stands) or its about cost cutting. It would have to be both. If market research concluded that the stands were considered insignificant but they didn't cost mattel anything, then I'm sure they'd continue to include them. But, since everything costs something, this is money that can either be put toward greater detail or just simply be added to their profit margin.

That's stupid. Now half of our collections are going to have stands and name tags and figures from now on won't......you have to wonder if the people working at these toy companies actually have any logic or care about the people buying them.
I think Jakks showed us that it's all about the money and at the end of the day no company cares about us, only their profits. I was hoping Mattel wouldn't be the same way.
