Ok this is really annoying... been collecting these for almost a year and now they take away the stands? I don't play with my figures, I just display them. This definit ely makes things less appealing to me.

Here is the short and simple answer: In order to keep the retail price at the same level in 2011 as they are in 2010, and deal with the annual production costs in the toy industry ( this happens in every company) it was decided to cut the stands and nameplates as opposed to cutting detail on the figures.

I loved the stands. Thank goodness I am moc for now. Although occasionally I like too get 1 moc and 1 loose.

Thanks Bill. That explains it of course. I really appreciate your honesty. That's what I figured would be the reason of course, it's just a shame to see them go. Obviously Mattel's big selling point is the figure detail and I most certainly would not want to sacrifice detail for stands...it's just a shame that we live in a world where everything has to go UP in price which in turn makes the consumer & companies suffer more. Do you think it's possible if in the future, the cost goes down and the stands could make a comeback? Actually, forgot to mention...is it just the Basic & 2 Packs? or is it across the board, every line (PPV series, Legends, Elites)

Aren't they already cutting the details on the basic figures to begin with? I'm sorry, but no matter what explanation is given, I consider it garbage. This news is just very disappointing.

Kind of bummed, all my figures are on my shelf with their display stand, it is going to look odd with a lot with out them.

The Basic figures are already having details cut on things like tattoos. Plus the fact that we have yet to see one accessory with a Basic figure except the chair that came with the Wrestlemania figures and we had to pay a DOLLAR more for the chair at a price of $10.99! Not to mention the fact that the Legends Series is no longer going to be 6 figures per Series, AND the Elite Series is going to feature waves excluding certain characters of the 6 man lineup. I would rather have had the Basic and Elite lines drop down to 4 or 5 characters per series instead of screwing around with waves of certain guys missing or having you take away the stands that us adult collectors who do not PLAY with the figures have designed our displays around. Seems to me like Mattel was NOT prepared to take on the WWE line and is now in panic mode. Oh well, we ALMOST made it through an entire year before it all started to fall apart.

I'm disappointed, but if I had to choose I would rather have the detail than the stands. Still I'm sad to see them go.

I think this is a bs excuse to keep the cost from rising. How about you change the package from the giant hourglass to something smaller and less costly. The EG figures have this massive was of space package and if all packages were alittle smaller like the DC Universe Classics but with a smaller bubble on a card that is made to enclose the figure that should make it cheaper.

I agree. Make the damn boxes smaller.

I'm with everybody else, I'd prefer accuracy over the stands.
For those you that know me you know how I was a die-hard JAKKS fan and how I helped them sign some CS deals. I never thought I'd like Mattel, but they took a great idea by JAKKS and made it even better. Legends is amazing!!!
Now if only they'd do a Sensational Queen Sherri figure with her hair down, full face paint in one of her great dresses I'd be soooooooo happy!

I have never been a fan of the stands since the beginning and I'm not really sorry to see them go. I don't care either way whether they were there or not, to be honest, but they didn't add anything for me. Toys are meant to look like toys even when they're collector pieces, and the stands gave them this immovable, museum exhibit feel for me. The few that I have stand wherever they stand in my room or whatever with no stand.
Probably just personal preference, but I'd much rather cost cutting go to this than details on somebody's tights...

I personally do have them all on stands in my collection, but you're completely right. My main draw to Mattel has been their attention to detail, and I'd hate to see that go. I'm not a big fan of the change, but I'll live with it just fine. Everyone arguing with Bill or saying it's "BS" needs to really reevaluate this and think about it. I doubt Bill went around asking people to help cook up an excuse as to how to explain getting rid of the stands. Get real guys.
