Laws are there for a reason. If you think the laws are bad or shouldn't apply to you, then there are channels where you can appeal them. You guys are arguing that even though this guy is clearly violating the law that he shouldn't be punished. What laws? Are they serious enough that he should have his land taken? Where has the government confiscated his land? They've basically condemned the trailor he was living in because it violates numerous housing and zoning laws.

And when they come through and condemn his place to live, what's he supposed to do? Maybe he's one who can't afford the modern luxuries of today. Not everyone is a doctor and attorney at the same time. But seriously, maybe he can't afford those things, and maybe the trailer is the only place he can live. Maybe he's not like other people and doesn't wanna just sit back and collect a handout from the government.

If he chooses to bring the property into compliance with the applicable housing and zoning laws he can move back in.

Eh, can't say I blame the county. They can turn those 38 acres into multiple tax-paying properties. A lot of people can benefit from this geriatric hick kicking the bucket.

Sure...just saying that land could be utilized far better than it is now.

Sure...just saying that land could be utilized far better than it is now. Yeah, let's just take away land from everybody. Why does a person even need one acre? Another house could be put on that land. So why can't we just take everyone's land and build more houses? Not like we are having trouble selling houses as it is.

Really going for the absolute extremes here, aren't we? No one's taking his land... he's too old to take care of it and now it's becoming a problem to the county, so they took the appropriate measures. If this guy had half a brain, he'd invest in cleaning up his property and selling it, providing funds for his family and their futures, while living the rest of his years comfortably on a fraction of that land or somewhere else. I'm sure his family will be doing just that when he croaks anyway.

I'm sure his family will be doing just that when he croaks anyway. And they can do whatever they want with the land after he's gone. Until then, it is his land, he can do whatever with it. He's not hurting anyone so I don't see the problem. What about all those celebrity mansions? Why do they need so much land and why do their houses have to be so big? We should knock them down and put up a house that is just right for them and use the rest of the land to build houses for other people. Where are your posts calling for Ted Turner's land to be sold? He owns 2 million acres of land.

But, Ted Turner can afford to upkeep his 2 million acres of land. Plus, he brought me WCW, which brought me Dusty Rhodes on commentary, which gives me hours and hours of entertainment...so Uncle Ted can do whatever he wants. Plus not keeping up your land can hurt others as far as property value and sanitation go. What if a serial killer lives in that county and is burying his dead bodies on that land?!?!?! What if the Red Skull is secretly building an underground nuclear base and the only accessible hatch is on that land?!?!?! What if a new species of predator, the wolfbear, was consummated on that land and a pack of blood thirsty terrors is slowly forming!?!?!
If any of these are true, he could be hurting not just the county he's living in...but...the world.

You'll agree 100% when there's a wild wolfbear in your backyard tearing up your trash! Luckily my county has a hunting ordinance so they don't over breed. The meat's a bit tough, but my girlfriend is going to love her new wolfbear coat I had made for her for x-mas.
