I'll admit I'm quite the worrier especially when it comes to things I like & care about. 1 of these many things is the Legends line which I'm getting increasingly worried about when ever there mentioned by the Mattel team. You can read alot into a sentence like : "We may bring out a Jerry Lawler figure in the Legends line if he sells well in basic" and the changes in the Legends line in the last 6-8 months has caused worries among all us Legends fans. A wrestler like Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler I'd expect to be in the Legends line with out a shadow of doubt but now thats not the case with recent developments. If the Jerry Lawler struggles to find his way into future Legends series just think how many others will. Going down to 4 per series and no 2-packs is also a major worry that we have talked about. Less Legends a year, Tag teams taking half a series and no new attires are the things I worry about. I wanted a Sgt Slaughter with camo gear, A bare foot Snuka, A better Roddy Piper (head) but these seem like just dreams now. I thought the All-Stars packs would help with the attires with Jake getting his green attire etc... But the series was just a one off... Mattel - Whats the future for the Legends line? Is it a dying line? Are wrestler's like IRS, Typhoon, Jimmy Neidhart, Greg Valentine etc... just dreams? How will we get the more popular attires of Wrestlers like Sgt Slaughter etc...? Can you not advertise on WWE programs? Like WWE Vintage? (may be just in the UK) Please give us Legends fans a bit of hope for the future. Your product is incredibly good and getting better and don't think thats the problem... P.S - I have bought ever Legends released by you to this day and I'm buying from the UK so don't blame me for not buying. General Legends line chat is welcome!

I think the main problem is with the collector market, especially when talking about 6 inch figures. Unfortunately...I don't see it getting any better. The economy is still in a funk, and oil prices have risen drastically in the past year. I know there are those who think the line-ups were to blame. I think that theory is absolutely ridiculous. My hope is that the current plan for Legends isn't scaled back more, or even put on hiatus.

I wouldnt Worry to much about Lawler, Steamboat had a Basic Figure before his legends.
Lawler (except facial Hair) really hasnt changed all that much in the past twenty years. if we end up getting an Elite Lawler with Crown and Jacket, I would be happy
Losing the Legends two packs doesnt worry me at all, $30 is alot for a two pack. heck when Jakks started releasing two packs they were $19.99 for a two pack.
I think Volkoff and Orton should have also been released as singles. but that may never happen.
I am ok with them releasing Four in a series, its easier for me to collect them, elites, and basic, and two packs

I don't really worry too much about the future of the Legends line. I think it will be fine because Mattel is almost done with the current WWE roster and still has years to produce more of these figures. I feel that they'll have to focus more on Legends once the current roster is complete in order to keep the WWE lines fresh. There's still a lot of history and classic wrestlers to go through.
I have a feeling that Basic Jerry "The King" Lawler could be the start of Legend figures in Basic form, if sales are good enough. Personally, I want them all to be in Elite style and, perhaps later on, have the less "strategic" Legends take up more spots in the Elite series.
It's not like Mattel is scaling back their lines like Jakks' stuff, though. We're still getting Basics, 2-packs, Elites, DM's, and exclusives like box sets & All Stars. So reducing the Legends sets to 4 figures makes it easier on my wallet right now.

"I don't collect Basics and all that many Elites so maybe Mattel can cut the Elites from 6 to 4 too to make it easier for me to afford the Elites I want?" That kinda logic always seems to get applied to the legends so I wondered how that would look applied to the figures of the current stars?
Rob, I'm starting to get a bit worried too but if the line doesn't make it past wave 6 at least we can grab elite bodies and make customs with Jakks heads.

Hey Man, If The Line didn't make it past series 6. i'd Sell off my legends collection and take up a new hobby.... lol
Like i said before, Legends had a Slow start...... Legends collectors had just came off a long run with jakks , the people who started the old school wwf trend..... so naturally a lot of people would be hesitant to start a new legends collection, but i see these legends sell out everywhere near me , and since series 5 i have started collecting and bought 40+ figures in the last month. I'm Sure Legends will be back up to 6 a series by the end of this year

Look , I think this line is perfectly fine. The fact that places like TRU have overordered the Legends Line has lead many to believe it's in a funk, and that the Legends Line is in jeapordy. Fact is, the Legends Line is a great seller, and it's not going anywhere. I admit, I don't collect Legends as rapidly as the rest of you, but that's only because I have a figure fed that I don't use many Legends for. I can only name 2 guys that have Legends figures that I've used, and that's Vader and Steamboat. Plus, Mattel has also discussed throwing a Legend into the Elite Line every now and then jsut so they can get more Legends out there without upping the Legends Line and having places overstock on them. Mattel is doing what's smart, and that's to shorten the sets so that people can afford them, and so that places won't end up overstocked with to many shelfwarmers. Plus, doesn't it seem logical that with less figures per series, Mattel can focus even more on detail and accessories for other figures?

I dont think the line is in danger so much as its Mattel's distribution. I dont think they've gotten the hang of what or how much to release.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started inserting Legends in the basic line, or Elite line. I think they alluded to that in the Toy Fair video. 4 Legends per Legends series, then random Legends added to the basic Elite line. That would be nice. McFarlane has done the same thing by eliminating the seperate Legends lines in their sports series, and adding Legend figures into the basic series.

I predict in about the next year or 2, the Legends line will become even more reduced, made into internet exclusives, or just become inserts in the elite line.

i hope they dont make any more basic legends , man i hate basic figures and mixing them with elites suck. i dont see how anyone would think they're gonna cancel the legends.... look at jakks classic run, 28 series, 8 series of classic d.a's ....internet exclusives, how many 2 packs and 3 packs, mattel legends wont stop, they'll only do better in time..... This would be a good time for MattelDesignTeam to reply

ya, this comment kinda made me think about the lowering to 4 legends per wave. and i dont see how that benefits the line whatsoever, when certain people are waiting for nwa guys and others for attitude era guys its going to slow the progress of the popularity of the line
what they should do is 6 per wave, and split it up with golden age, nwa and attitude era

I sort of worry about the line, really for all the reasons you posted. I think Jerry Lawler being a question mark for a future Legends figure is sort of the biggest concern I have. As you brought up, he seems like the easiest guy to pencil in, especially with him being so over on the current product. Someone mentioned Mattel just now sort of finding their groove with distribution and I agree with that as well. Better distribution, and more appropriate quantities, is going to help sales for sure imo.
When they took the line from 6 to 4 I think we all immediately knew there was going to be some more obscure guys that got passed up. I think Mattel is trying to reach beyond the collector market and try to push this line to everyone, which is honestly best for all of us if you ask me. Ultimate Warrior will have 3 figures by the time L6 hits, Macho Man has 3 right now, and I expect a similar situation with other guys. We are probably going to see plenty of Rock and Austin variations, and that will continue onto other guys. Bret Hart will hit and we will more than likely see a few variations of him. Hopefully, we slowly see guys like Foley, Flair and Hogan as they return home and we will more than likely see those be implemented in a variety of different attires.
Essentially, I see guys like Piper, Perfect, Steamboat, etc getting a couple different figures. However, guys like DLo Brown and Shockmaster might not get made. I feel like Jakks CS line lost a ton of steam towards the end and with 4 figures per set, at least Mattel will be able to pace themselves. They have 4 years left, and to be honest probably many more, and they don't need to play all their cards on the first hand. I hope the strategy works though because if it doesn't we are going to see the Elite line with Legends incorporated, which would be a sad day.

ya no kidding, i hope they keep all the lines and keep them with their own respected brands. you know for now go with the more strategic figures. Why not ? Jakks started with bret hart, warrior, andre, hbk, undertaker and hhh and then remade most of them by series 3 lol... but then eventually added the obscure once everyone was hooked. And the classic deluxe line within the first 3 series had ; Hogan, Flair, Rock, Austin, Piper, HBK, Bret, Bulldog, Nash, Perfect, Taker, Jake, Rude, Luger, Scott Hall.... All Big Hitters in the Business
Bill was saying they are going to add Andre the Giant as an exclusive more than likely
thats a huge fail imo. Andre is one of the biggest legends sellers , add him to a series!! thats like adding hulk hogan as an internet exclusive. ya he would be an excellent exclusive but i think mattel needs to hire someone who knows wwe history and can point them in the right direction on who to market.
Dont get me wrong, i love every choice in series 4 + 5!! .... 1+2+3 and 6 im not so sure about.
1 - Dusty , Dragon , SCSA had no problems, l.o.d should have been more iconic saving the nwa for later, and slaughter too although i love the less obscure choices, probably not good marketing. But all in all a very boring line up for series 1.
2- Rude , Kamala, Jake Are Top Notch to me . Funk, Sheik, Snuka should have been Replaced with more popular legends like HBK and Bret. Another Boring line up imo.... Half is great but nothing to really get too excited about
3- Brian Pillman? the average old school fan wont care as much about this one, as shown on pegs across america.. otherwise good assortment
4 - Warrior and Demolition make this a great set, the other 3 are great fillers as well.
5 - A+ couldnt complain one bit
6 - i love warrior and the von erichs, and guerrero is awesome but i think there should have only been one kerry in this series and saved the other for later, as well they should have added another blockbuster hit to the series, personally i wouldnt have put the von erichs in till later
just my opinion but seriously i think if they are more strategic then they will definetly succeed, They'll Sell more legends if they focus on the Golden Age of WWF for a while. Im sure theres a lot of fans who want nwa and attitude era figures but jakks put out what sold, and most of their repaints and re-costumes were golden age wrestlers.

I am a legends series and defining moments series collector. Those are the only two lines i collect. I remember when jakks did Classic superstars i was so mad at myself i didn't collect them. Now that i kind of have a fresh start i started collecting the legends and have everyone of one them now. The problem I seem to find is that either stores aren't ordering enough or mattel isn't sending them out fast enough or in more quantities. In my town we have a wal-mart, target, and meijer. And when you go to their section there is literately only one peg on the shelf that is marked for legends figures, and there is never and i mean never any on there! And also my town is just now starting to get series 3 legends in for the first time! I know i read a lot about some of your guys stores having the usual legends figures (slaughter, Brian P.) sitting on the shelves for months on end, but here its absolutely nothing. I finally got so fed up and talked to every store manager and said are you guys not ordering any and every stores answer was no we want them, they just wont send us any and when they do they only send us 1 case (which is one of every figure) and someone walks through the doors and buys the entire case. So in my opinion i don't see it going dead, and if it does my thoughts are that it is going to be mattels fault it dies and not us consumers. To be honest i'm not to happy with mattel currently producing WWE figures. Yes they look really good, i'm not denying that. I feel like when jakks did it they actually knew wrestling and watched it! And also when jakks did it i feel like that every week when i went to the store there was some sort of new series or figure to choose from. Now when i go into the stores its the same thing or nothing at all. I know I rambled on and i'm sorry, just had to get everything out. I think it all just comes down to distribution and mattel honestly not know much about wrestling. I look at it this way, if WWE says mattel your doing a poop job, they aren't going to care because they are the biggest toy company out there, they have so many other brands they can sell. When jakks did it, it was their main focus, you could tell that just buy the mass production and the new stuff you were seeing all the time. BUT I have faith in Mattel and their legends line! I say up it to 5 per set instead of 4. ***Also by now there should have been a legends exclusive figure released somewhere. We are at series 6 and no exclusive. And no I do not count that k-mart hall of fame stuff exclusive. I remember being so excited about that hall of fame set and then going their that morning and going are you kidding me...you re packed the figures and slapped a hall of fame logo on there...i died a little inside.

I'm not worried and I enjoy the drop to 4 figures. Hopefully it really makes them look at who they should be producing instead of just trying to get figures out to fill the line every time.

Well can we get someone from Mattel to comment on this?!? I can't believe that they would only make a Lawler figure only if he sells well in the basic line. Lawler is a true legend he should be a no brainer...guys like Bastian Booger I can see them saying this kind of stuff about but come on...I want a complete legends collection!!
