I don't understand why some people refuse to wear a seatbelt.......it's not like a helmet. It doesn't obstruct your head or make you uncomfortable at all, unless you're a great big fat person.
I just don't get it.....there's never a reason to make yourself consciously LESS SAFE.
I don't let anybody in my car who won't wear their seatbelt. If we get into an accident I don't need their death on my head.

I have 2 aunts and a mother who fell out of a car due to a lack of seat belts.

My brother in law just died because he didn't wear one. Please, everyone be safe while driving, it only takes 5 seconds to pull it over yourself and click-it.
Thank you.

I've always thought "Why not?" in response to this question. It's only 2 seconds to do it and will give you a greater chance at surviving a car accident.

I support the law 100%. Seat belts save lives, and its ridiculous not to wear one. When I get in a car, my number one priority is the put my seat belt on. Pretty much. Better to be safe then sorry. Is the law to wear seat belts in every state? I mean I know it is in CA but do any states not have it as mandatory?

Well I think it should be a matter of choice. And I do know a man who was pinned in his car by his seat belt and is now paralyzed. I also just had two friends die last year one was wearing a seat belt and the other wasn't same crash and both died. Now to me it just seems that if it's my time it's my time regardless if I have one on or not. And if safety is an issue why aren't there seat belts on buses and why are motocycles legal? There is nothing protecting you but a helmet (if you wear one) a car IMO is alot safer than a bike but yet it's state law I wear a seat belt.

I was actually going to post a similar topic....
I am in favor of seatbelts. HOWEVER I absolutely HATE the new Illinois law which requires everyone (people in back seat included) to wear seat belts. Yo me it use to be great not having to drive so I can just sit in the back and relax, but now I have to put a seat belt on?!?

As someone who is super fat I am offended. I made sure to buy an extender. However for example my mom and I both have an allergy to touch. Seat belts for my mom are incredibly uncomfortable because she's allergic to pressure and it itches and burns her skin to have pressure like it. They need to make seat belts more comfortable. Or atleast more options such as pull over stuff so that there is a layer of soft material from one side to the other of the seat belt. I have been in 2 accidents prior to having the extension and didn't get hurt. My mom did get hurt in one and she had her seatbelt on. The way I see it is seat belts should be choice. However if your killed by a drunk driver while not wearing one the drunk driver should not be charged for that.

It's just second nature when I get into an automobile.
Common sense.

He absolutely should still be charged for that. He was still driving recklessly. More reckless than a person without a seatbelt.

I think the only time i wont wear a seat belt is if Im feeling car sick or if its burning my skin from sunburn or just an irritation. Other than that, I wear it. I hated wearing one as a kid though.

'realise' is the British spelling of the word In that case, I stand corrected in that regard and embarrassed for being uncultured in my response. that being said, I personally will wear a sit belt regardless where I am sitting. the "couldn't care less" part was directed towards those that ride with me. granted I could have been more specific in my original post, but if you ride with me and you are in the back seat, it's your call. i shouldn't responsible for someone old enough to make that decision themselves. and since it's currently a choice when sitting in the back seat, I don't feel the need to make that choice for someone. please keep in mind the "someone old enough to make that decision" part, because i'm not an a-hole that's going to let my nephew or little brothers ride in the back without making sure they are as safe as possible. since they are not as old as others, i can't assume they would know what is or isn't safe for them So you don't care about the well being of your passengers? What about if they're family? You're just going to knowingly sit back and watch them make a potentially fatal mistake?

Only ones I hate are the ones on Coaches, but only because they go across your waist and they feel like they are cutting into you. Plus being tall the seats are too close together and its always a uncomfortable experience. I hate coaches....
Otherwise Id always wear my seatbelt..

Eh, I usually wear mine, but only because the car I drive has that annoying alarm that goes off for 30 seconds if you don't put it on. I never used it in my last car. I also live in one of the last states that doesn't require it. I'll still occasionally just kinda drive off without it on and disregard the alarm.

Click it or ticket. I think it's a good law. There's no reason not to wear a seat belt. I think there are some people who just do not realize how important it is to wear a seat belt. It forces them to be safe. This and end of thread. I mean really, would you go on a rollercoaster with a harness or a seat belt? Why the hell would one drive a car without one?

Serious question.......... Can anyone tell me WHY they wouldn't wear a seat belt? Only thing I can think of is if you're too fat and it's uncomfortable. I am not arguing that people shouldn't wear seat belts, but I had a friend in middle school who was a bit shorter than most & when he got in a car accident..the seat belt sliced his ear off I'm not saying he would've been safer without it, but there are times when crazy things can happen I am all for seat belts though!! I do find it interesting that cops are allowed to invade privacy in efforts to see if you're wearing one. At night, they can use night vision in my area to see inside your car - checking if you have one on. That seems a bit insane to me.

Passed a bad accident on the Garden State Parkway coming home from Atlantic City the other mourning, later found out 3 people out of 5 or so died and the ones NOT wearing seatbelts died and the ones wearing them lived. I don't see the logic in not wearing one.

Im too lazy to wear one. Me not wearing a seatbelt isnt endangering anybody except myself. Same with helmets. If I dont want to wear one then I shouldnt have to.
