My neighbor may have finally won the battle and forced me to move. I've had an on-going feud with her for several years now. Basically, she goes through phases where she pulls out all the stops and does everything she can to bring pain on my head. I ignore her. Then she goes away for a while. In the past several years she has: - Called Animal control on me at least a dozen times complaining that the dogs are neglected. Animal control has never found anything. - Called the city and complained that my lawn was un-mowed and was causing a public health hazard. City found nothing. - I foolishly invited her to an Easter production our church was doing thinking she'd enjoy getting out of the house and not being lonely. She responded by calling the church and giving the church secretary and earful about how horrible I am. - Some friends of mine ran into her in the grocery store and invited her to something else our church was doing. She made the connection and proceeded to go off on them about how horrible I am. - She wouldn't leave the dogs alone during the day and was constantly trying to feed them and give them water. I built a privacy fence instead of chain link. She now walks around the far end of the privacy fence so she can mess with the dogs. - Had some friends of mine building a deck for me. She didn't know they were friends of mine, but went ahead and told them about how I abuse my dogs, don't mow my lawn, etc.............................. - Has just now started making false reports to animal control about how my dogs are barking all night long. My dogs are in my house at night. If they were barking all night long, she wouldn't hear them. Animal control says if she signs a formal complaint, then I will be cited. It will then be up to me to prove that my dogs were not barking all night long. I have no way to prove this. How do I prove something didn't happen? So I may be forced to move. I simply can't deal with the insanity any more. I love my house. It's not a great real estate market. I just dropped $7k on a new a/c. I want nothing more than to stay in my house and have the neighbor just leave me the alone. I don't blare music at all hours of the day and night. I don't have large parties. I don't have hookers coming and going all night long. I come home and I mind my own business. I honestly have no idea why she hates me so much. If I did I'd go over and offer a fake apology for it as I'm tired of dealing with her at this point. But that's not an option. If I talk to her, she will be incredibly pleasant. Then she'll go inside and call someone and complain about me. I've talked to two different real estate brokers today about buying something and selling my house. We'll see what happens. I really don't want to move, but I can't think of any other options at this point that don't involve me sinking to her level.

What a bitch. I had a neighbor like that once, but she backed into the driver side fender of my car. She was quite the pleasant lady after that.

You could go all paranormal activity and just put a camera up, monitoring the room the dogs sleep in. Tape one night or one whole weeks' worth of nights and present that.
I agree with Kliquid on this one. From my experience with a horrible neighbor with 3 pit bulls that bark late into the night, the burden of proof was on me to get animal control out there at a time when they were barking.

Maybe not exactly sue, but fight back against her. If you're not doing anything wrong and yet she's out talking crap about you, wouldn't that be slander? The housing market is awful (around here at least). Don't let her win. Put up a "No Trespassing" sign on your fence and call the cops if she comes around to feed your dogs again.

I asked him if I could call and claim that his dogs were barking and sign a complaint and get him cited. He said that since what I would be signing would be a legal document I'd basically be lieing and could be charged with making a false report. Otherwise, I could do it. The burden then would be on him to prove that I was making a false report. It's a BS ordinance.
