Seeing it in 90 minutes. Will post a review tonight when i get home. Just out of curiosity are you a fan of the first? Yes, I liked the first movie, thought it was scary when I first saw it (in the theaters! I'm old, lol) I think the first movie gets some negative reactions for three main reasons: 1) it was so over hyped when it came out. My experience is that when people make such a big deal about a movie, it can't live up to their expectations. Luckily, I saw it before it blew up, so I wasn't expecting the scariest movie ever or whatever. 2) a lot of people don't have the patience for slow burn movies and have no imagination, so there was this huge backlash because..."they never showed the witch!" I guess people don't get the idea that your mind can create something scarier than cgi effects. (Or maybe I just have a real sick mind, lol) 3) the first movie gets blamed for the deluge of found footage movies that plague the horror genre to this day. Anyway I don't know much about the new movie, but I'm kind of excited that it may actually be good. Agreed 100%. The original is amazing for the fact that they don't show anything. It's all about the suspense and your imagination. No stupid "jump scares" like most horror movies do today. It's a slow burn as we watch the three of them slowly go mad until their unfortunate fates. I first saw it when it originally released on VHS when I was 10 and was scared crapless. It's still creeps me out when I see it now and it's a shame that it gets blamed for the numerous crappy "found-footage" films that have been released since then.

I saw Blair Witch over the weekend. I'm a fan of the original, and went through a bit of a strange saga with this sequel.
When it was "The Woods", I was ecstatic. I loved Adam Wingard's two previous films and was really excited to see him dive into full fledged horror. Then, when they pulled the switcharoo and revealed it was a Blair Witch sequel, my excitement faded a little, not only because it wasn't an original concept, but because I thought the full trailer was a colossal step backward from that incredible teaser.
Still, I had somewhat lofty expectations given my enjoyment of Wingard's previous work. As the reviews started to pour in, I got a little worried, and by the time the weekend rolled aroumdl I felt like I had my expectations firmly in check.
I left the theater Saturday still feeling letdown. I think I may have even said I hated it. My initial reaction was a bit hasty, and I don't feel a strongly now, but I still think the movie was largely unnecessary. I have no problem with sequels and reboots, providing the director and crew are confident they can add a meaninful chapter to the story or present the original content in a fascinating, modernized way. I didn't feel like Blair Witch did either of those things. It was a sleak and sophisticated, 2016 found footage film with none of the rawness or the original. It lacked any real creative scares, and I thought the ending was mostly convoluted and overly flashy for the sake of being flashy. It's a shame, because as it was first getting going, I was starting to get a little excited again. I thought the acting was solid and the anticipation was well built, but when push came to shove, it just fell flat.

I thought Blair Witch was alright. It's undeniably Wingard's least impressive movie but it's still decent. I'd give it 6.5/10.
Currently watching Train to Busan. Fantastic Korean zombie movie. Probably equal best zombie movie I've seen with Shaun of the Dead.

I really miss the 1980s teen slasher films. Really wish those type of films would come back.

I watched The Thing (1982) for the first time last night. Man, I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. John Carpenter's script was great. I actually got scared one good time during the blood test. I won't spoil anything but I do recommend you give it a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
Watching 'Videodrome' tonight. I've heard a lot of good things about it so I'm excited.

I think I might make this year a very Mario Bava October. Will probably include some of his proteges work (Argento and his son Lamberto) as well.

I dunno, it felt like a lot of build up for such little payoff. I get the metaphor of TV warping people's mind but I guess that was more of a concern back in the 80's. Didn't like James Woods' acting at all, and I felt like if you drank everytime they actually say the word "Videodrome" you'd die of liver damage. lol. I wouldn't really recommend it honestly. Watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the Original) for the first time. Man! I loved it. Exactly what I wanted after last night's flop. Got straight to the point and it really was non-stop after the first murders. I actually jumped one good time when Leatherface hopped out of the bushes. Anyway, not sure if there are any first time viewers in here so I won't say much more other than give that one a watch!

I still jump a little bit every time Leatherface makes his first appearance in the movie.

Finally saw Blair Witch. I was disappointed. Me too. It wasn't horrible, just seemed unnecessary. I liked the last half hour, and that weird thing in the woods by the house kinda creeped me out, but this wasn't like an instant classic or game changer. This could've just gone straight to Netflix. I was expecting more.

Just a word of caution- if anyone watches The Witch, you will probably be disappointed. The dialogue is hard to understand. Very "olde English", so put your subtitles on. And the lack of lighting makes it hard to see what is actually going on.
If you want a couple of really good, creepy made for TV horror films, I recommend the original "Salem's Lot" and "Dark Night of the Scarecrow".

I should get around to watching that.

So is Don't Breathe worth the watch? Yup. You'll either like or despise the third act reveal, but even if you hate it, there's so much tension in the middle act and final ten minutes it's worth it

I haven't gotten to watch ANY horror movies until tonight.
I'm glad AMC is running back to back Fridaythe 13th and Halloween marathons.
I need more free time man.
