Clearly his lack of memorabilia, DVDs, hall of fame recognition, championships, figures, alumni listing on WWE.com, I could go on an on . . . clearly a lack of all this stuff is enough proof that he is NOT "one of the true legends of pro wrestling." I believe it isn't me who is talking out of my ass when I point to the lack of evidence to support your claim (objective facts beyond dispute), and all you can do is make grandiose proclamations based on your own highly subjective opinions of "good wrestling" and super stardom in a company that was far from global in a time when wrestling had yet to hit its peak. You're right. How can I argue about Legends with someone named the Big Bossman. You're right about all your points. No DVDs, No Hall of Fame, No world Championships, no Alumni listing on WWE.com..........JUST LIKE THE BIG BOSSMAN. I guess you're saying Bossman isnt a legend right? According to your criteria, he doesn't qualify. Of course Bossman does have a few figures but how did he get those figure? By signing a WWE LEGENDS deal, just like......MAGNUM TA! And the NWA was "far from Global"....that pretty much right there states that outside of probably the Attitude Era, you have no idea anything about wrestling history or the NWA Territories...which included MANY International companies. Out of respect for Dean, Im ending this argument...mainly because you're making pointless arguments just to not have someone released. You're reaching for every reason possible to claim that Magnum doesn't deserve a figure and in doing so you come across as an uneducated, misinformed "Fan" of wrestling that knows nothing of what you're talking about. No. I'm not saying Big Bossman is "one of the true legends of pro wrestling." I love how you feel the need to put words in my mouth to build your argument. But you DID say that Magnum TA is "one of the true legends of pro wrestling." He is clearly, obviously not. If you can't handle that then by all means go away. But the facts are the facts. Magnum TA never had a wrestlemania moment, Bossman had many. Magnum never had a toy produced and sold by a major company, Bossman has had many. Yes both signed legends deals with Mattel, but whose was released to mass retail, and which one was not? Magnum was never on a promo poster out in front with Warrior, Savage, and Hogan like Bossman was for the '91 Royal Rumble. Even with all of that, Bossman STILL isn't "one of the true legends," so Magnum TA certainly is not! As for Dean not wanting to create a forum for argument. Why do people post things on a public message board and then say they don't like the way a discussion is going? It's a message board. It's public. If you ask people a question don't ya think they're gonna tell you why they chose their answer??? C'mon people. If you don't won't people to debate a topic you bring up then you only have one solution: don't bring it up in a public forum!

bigbossman is right on with this one. If you ask just about any "casual" wrestling fan who the Big Bossman is and they will know something about him.....If you ask the same "casual" wrestling fan who Magnum TA is they will probably tell you some fact about Tom Selleck. That's just the truth about it. If you haven't been a wrestling fan your whole life and over the age of 30, you probably don't know much about him.

And not to mention, Bossman has been featured in and on the cover of video games! Ever heard of Wrestlemania Challenge for the NES? Bossman was on the cover with whom you ask? Oh just four scrubs named Hogan, Warrior, Savage, and Andre the flippin Giant. And Bossman STILL isn't one of the "true legends." How many game covers did Magnum pose for?

so because you "don't know much about him" means that he's not to be considered a legend in the wrestling industry?
I guarantee that Wfig board members under the age of 30 have not heard the name Lou Thez beyond a random commentator mentioning a "Thez press" in their commentary during a match. Does that make Lou Thez any less of a legend in this sport? Thez has no figures of his own yet he's regarded as one of the greatest wrestling champions of all time. Do you know Ed "Strangler" Lewis? the casual fan sure doesn't, but Ed is still is true legend in this business.
As far as I'm concerned, a true wrestling Legend is one that is acknowledged as such by his or her peers in the business - ladies and gentlemen I give you the Cauliflower Alley Club. 9 times out of 10 other wrestlers rate the greatness of their peers on "how many asses they can fit into seats" - it's all about drawing power and pay-days. It's the reason why Dusty Rhodes is a legend in Florida and the Mid-Atlantic region, it's the reason why even though Hogan is shady in real life he's still influenced a generation of future wrestlers, and it's the reason why I too consider Magnum T. A. a legend, because it's a FACT he used to pack asses into seats.

They should work something out with Ringside with this figure. Where you spend so much here.. you get a free Magnum figure. Magnum as popular as he was in the 80s will not be a good seller in retail. If they put him in retail it would have to be like 1 every 10 cases or something.

A TRU build-a-figure better come with 4 guys that people REALLY want or it won't work. The best way to do it is to make a build-a-figure through ringside exclusives. That way 80s collectors can collect 80s toys with an 80s build-a-figure. Trying to mix generations wouldn't be a good idea (IMO). You would turn 80s collectors off because they wouldn't want the current guys, and the current collectors wouldn't feel compelled to collect an entire series just to get a guy they couldn't care less about. Actually, the best thing to do is make Bobby Heenan and build-a-figure at ringside, and then make Magnum one of the guys you have to buy to get Bobby's head!

We need to find the link to the CM Punk RSC poll. See how those numbers compare to the numbers here.

Heck, even polls by professionals have +-7% margin of error. The sale numbers of guys from similar eras is more indicative of how well a Punk or Magnum would sell than a random poll on a public message board where any joe blow may or may not participate.

Yes, I would have bought him. I would have bought quite a few if he had made it to retail. Same goes for DDP and Austin.
This thread really shows how sad the Legends moniker has become. People are so worried Mattel will suddenly pull the plug completely on older figures, that there's a sense of selfishness to a lot of these arguments. People are paranoid that if Magnum takes up 1 single slot in any sort of line, the line will either die, or they'll have to wait an extra year to get someone they want more. Things have gone from "oh well, maybe next series" to "crap, when are they even going to release another guy from before the 90s".
While I think he'd fit better as some sort of exclusive or special promotion, I really don't buy the idea that Magnum would somehow kill the FB slots all by himself if he's released.
Mattel has gone above and beyond to make highly wanted FB figures nearly impossible to find. From short packing, to revised cases that exclude them entirely, Mattel has the means to try and control how plentiful a figure is on the shelves (and sadly, they continue to apply it when we don't need them to). Add to that the poor distribution, and there's just no way this figure would sit on the shelves, in huge quantities, for years on end across the country.
If Magnum was .5 per case in an Elite series, and a store got 10 cases (which is a long shot in itself), that's 5 Magnums on the shelf at best. Toss in their revised cases plan, and things would be under decent control.
The fact is, Mattel is just deathly afraid of any figure warming the pegs for more than a couple of weeks that isn't named "Cena", "Mysterio", or "Orton". I understand that apparently "they're who stores want", but how does that even work? Why would any business demand large quantities of an item to be on the shelves, barely selling? People bring up "it's about who will sell, not what collectors want". Well how is 3-5 Magnums slowly selling across several months somehow worse for a company's bottom line than 10-30 Cena's just sitting on the shelves (throwing off distribution) for the better half of a year?
Anyways, I definitely think PJ is on to something with that BAF idea. If Mattel was smart enough with the packing numbers, it could work very well. Sadly, I truly believe we'll never see Magnum released.

Maybe to use as a jobber in a Legends figure fed, but his boots are too snazzy for that. So probably not. Unless I really wanted to use the head for a Barry Hardy custom.

I would easily buy one. Not only is it a great figure in itself, but it's also a great fodder piece for customs of guys like Hall, Windham, Storm, and Husky.

I'm agreeing with one person that Magnum should be considered a legend in the sport on the simple fact that he was a big draw during his time. All those names that you mentioned are considered legends too - sheiky baby, dusty, jake and steamboat are an excellent class of wrestlers to be associated with.

The argument about how it would sell doesn't work though. Mattel said that almost all of the Legends underperformed.
Yet the flashbacks have done quite well so far. I don't he would be the best seller of the line, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't do well.
That said, maybe RSC would be the best place for him. I don't care how he is released though, I want this figure.
