I'm a John Cena fan. But even I know that he's an entertainer, a superstar, not a wrestler. He's got the basic wrestling ability, but he's more of a storyteller than a wrestler. It's his character that has him at the top of the company, not his ability in the ring, because he isn't all that good, especially when it comes to selling.
I enjoy his matches based on the fact that he can contribute to a great storyline, really make it a must-see angle.

I don't think, nor have I ever thought, John Cena deserves the kind of flack he gets for his in ring efforts and ability.
I completely understand why people get on him for the way he's booked. At the end of the day, though, that's not his fault. Sometimes he does come off as "superman". Other times, it's blatantly obvious that WWE is so focused on his character's protection that they're willing to make stupid decisions that jeopardize other talent.
However, I would find it incredibly hard to to defend the argument that Cena can't get it done in the ring. In nearly every big match scenario that Cena has been faced with, he's been able to keep up with his opponent, and in some cases, even carry him to a solid match. The Great Khali is an absolutely poor excuse for a professional wrestler. He's horrible. Yet, somehow, John Cena got two half decent matches out of him. To me, that speaks volumes. CM Punk vs. John Cena from Money n the Bank 2011 is one of my favorite matches of all time. I've seen people say Punk carried Cena through that match. I wholeheartedly disagree, it takes two to put on a match of that caliber.
At the end of the day, I understand why people dislike Cena. I also understand why WWE books him the way that they do. John Cena is, for all intents and purposes, this generation's Stone Cold and/or The Rock. The difference is, his status has never been quite so concrete, and that's evidenced by how divided most crowds are with him. You weren't seeing that kind of thing for Rock and Austin. WWE sees that, it scares them, and as a result, they over protect their franchise player.

I find truth in everything you said & thank you for contributing your perspective, but it only makes me worry even more about how ill-prepared WWE really is for a future without him. As much as he works/travels, a plane could easily be his undoing. Need I even mention their recent "booking themselves into a corner" with Ryback at Hell in a cell?

In 2012 we deserve better. Plain and simple. In 1990 John Cena would have been fine. Shoulder blocks and half-assed suplexes would have been accepted.
Although in the modern era we have seen so many guys who just blow Cena away in the ring in every way possible that it's hard to tolerate Cena's wrestling ability. Guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero just make Cena's ring work look elementary (which it is). For someone who is THE guy he should be better. We deserve better.

Mainstream pro wrestling has never and will never be about wrestling. Its about character and entertainment. John Cena deserves everything he has right now.

"My name is William & I am not just a random spectator. I'm a dedicated, aspiring Booker."
I "lol"ed.. You clearly have some sort of complex that makes you have the urge to feel above others. Good luck in the real world man.

Good luck in the real world man. It's called being open to scrutiny & not hiding behind a username. I really hate to burst your bubble, but I am. I'm actually booking matches on cards all over the state & getting wrestlers over while you just sit back & watch with no true idea of what goes into it, unless you have wrestled yourself in which case, I'm putting salt on my words & picking up my fork because I am more than happy to ADMIT when I'm wrong.

Mainstream pro wrestling has never and will never be about wrestling. Its about character and entertainment. John Cena deserves everything he has right now. That's where you're not entirely correct. It's a blend of the two. As long as people revel in great matches, wrestling will always be what it always has been. A theatrical portrayal of a sport.

Cena sucks. *insert DX chops* Sad part is, his skills are questionable enough & Vince has enough homosexual tendencies for their to be a potential air of truth to that statement. X/

He was in one of the greatest matches of this millenium so far... what more needs to be said.
Anyone who thinks Cena has little to no wrestling ability is a fool as far as I'm concerned; especially when you consider how many of those same people were on The Miz's nuts when he was WWE Champion, or think David Otunga is a talent, and called CM Punk boring and overrated back in 2008...

He had some really good matches in '03-'04. I think he was forced to wrestle a different style once he became the "FACE OF WWE"

Look at him here training with Samoa Joe, Daniels & Kaz. He's actually the smoothest one there, Joe is sloppy as ![](http://www.wrestlingfigs.com/images/wfcensored.gif) .

Since we are only 12 years into it, I think that concept of measurement's a bit flawed, but I get your point. I'm going give it a guess since I don't know which you mean. . Vs Shawn Michaels at WM23? Moving on, I Agree with you & am always shocked at how uneducated & fickle "so called" wrestling fans can be. Thank you for your contribution.

I found it hilarious how the wrestling trainer called Cena "The Prototype" at 8:24. But if you look at little further into the video Cena looks ripped when he was in UPW back when he started out.

At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what cena can or cannot do. He represents everything bad with WWE and is the leader of PG. Being the posterboy for this will have him hated by many. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Not 2 paragraphs, UMADBRO?
