The used game thing doesn't affect me as I don't really play alot of games. The ones I do play/buy are 99% of the time are day 1 purchases. I do understand the frustration about paying a fee to be able to play a used game, it is utter bullcrap.

Too bad that is a multi thousand dollar investment. Also activation fees should remain a choice to the developers not the console. How is that a multi thousand dollor investment? You can build a good gaming pc for less then $800 And you ahve to update it yearly, I have friends that are into it and it is just too much money. Also PC gamers are kidding themselves if they think PC games are cutting edge, uncompressed graphics is not cutting edge.

I should find the article where game developers said that PC's were not some super device that sees into the gaming future and that consoles play a very heavy hand on how developers innovate and try harder but believe what you want. Thing is fanboys will always brag about what plays games better and who cares? I mean really? Bottom line is the activation fee is crap and hopefully they do away with it. People talk about Gamestop nonstop and how it will effect them, did anyone stop and think how it will effect Gamefly?

I just want to play games. All that other crap isn't interesting. This is coming from an Xbox fan. They didn't say much at all about anything that matters. Sonya conference wasn't much better and the wii u is crap. This gen of consoles is very disappointing so far. I have never been less excited about new gaming systems. Count me in on that. With my overall interest in games taking a sharp decline over the past few years, there's a good chance I won't be bothering with any of these new consoles. Time will tell, but as of right now I truly could not care less.

I'm out. No backward compatibility, no XBLA support, used/borrowed game activation fee? Screw all that. PS4, I'm exclusively yours.

I should find the article where game developers said that PC's were not some super device that sees into the gaming future and that consoles play a very heavy hand on how developers innovate and try harder but believe what you want. How does a fixed closed system make developers innovate more compared to an open system with more potential? Regardless of what the developers tell you, here are the numbers: Survey of 2500 NA game developers on which platform they are currently and planning on developing for. 49% for PC's 11% for ps4, and Xbox one. software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2013/03/05/where-the-developers-are-consoles-mobile-tablets-or-pc-sIn terms of the gaming market strategy, PC gaming is more advantageous to developers than consoles. The reasons why game prices are so high is because Sony Microsoft and Nintendo make consoles at a loss in hopes of gaining back their money through licensing games. Why are games so highly priced? Because most of it goes to royalties and licensing fees to Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. Developers make more money (per sale) by distributing it through digital distribution services such as steam. I'm a console gamer as well but I'm tired of getting nickeled and dimed for games, dlc (some of which are already on the disc), and most of all simple features such as online play. This I The direction console gaming market needs to go. Obviously limiting consumers by charging them for everything creates backlash. In terms of gamefly or renting games, unless The upcoming ps4 adopts this activation fee business model, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

So it's come out now that this "fee" is going to be the full retail cost of the game just like it was brand new. Someone must be on some serious drugs over at Microsoft to think people would be happy with this.

The same way independent film making helps film makers innovate. And I dunno, I'm not a tech savvy nerd but I remember an article where developers said console gaming does offer things that PC gaming hasn't yet come up with but really, end of the day PC gaming will always be PC gaming. If the Market goes to hell from these consoles its time for a new developer to step up to the plate and try something. Google maybe?

I'm getting the Wii U. And PS4 (later on) Xbox One isn't even about games.

*sigh*, it actually pains me to say this but PS4 might actually get my purchase when it's time for me to finally switch over. I don't care about all of the gimmicks that appeal to the general consumer. I could've looked past those and not used them. But to FORCE gamers to purchase a used game over again, JUST to play it on another XBOX is nearly criminal. If went out and bought a new CD, would it make sense for me to have to buy it again just to listen to it in my friend's car too?
The fact that Microsoft took this initiative and not actual game developers makes me think that this feature was put on the table as a platform requirement from them. Seems like teams such as EA and Ubisoft were like "if we're gonna make games for your console, you're gonna have to do something about the used games market". That's just speculation on my part, but why else would Microsoft jump into that fight when people still go out and buy consoles just to play used copies of Halo, GTA, COD, or Madden they just bought because their friends told them it was awesome? Plenty. It won't surprise me if Sony comes out to say that the PS4 has this too.
Also not making it backwards compatible and forcing me to cram another huge box into my entertainment center has me thinking about shutting the door completely on MS. I thought they'd shine where the PS4 didn't. I think I may be sticking with current gen until they stop making games.

I am thinking that unless they show some must haves games only on the system at E3 that are coming this year or early next, that I will just be sticking with my 360 until next year. I mean most of the good looking third party games are coming out on the current generation systems as well and I don't see that stopping soon with the huge install base of consumers on them.

thing that bugs me....they have the technology to make GAMING incredible The xbox360 is a perfect system in design and overall appeal....just give it a bigger hard drive and better processor. If i want kinect, let me buy it for myself, if i want to watch TV through my xbox let me choose to download the app
don't make me pay $500 for a bunch of crapi will NEVER use. i understand they want to appeal to a broad audience, they want an xbox in every house. they want you doing everything through their system so they can control the world.
but why not make 2 versions of this new thing. make one with all the bells & whistles for everyone who wants it and make a simpler one....one for people who JUST want to play games. and you cant tell me "oh that would cost too much"....no it wouldn't, microsoft has 11546216535122 billion dollars....and they will easily sell 12527 billion dollars worth of gaming consoles. hell i would even pay $400 for a better version of the 360 even if it didn't come with all this bullshit.
i use my xbox to play games like gears of war & rock band. and i use it to play call of duty with my friends. games are out at $60 and unless it was something absolutely amazing (skyrim) or the new COD i always wait to buy one used or on ebay at a later time....so now i have to pay TWICE to play one game if it's been used? id rather not. ill goy re-buy a PS2 and play old games that ive never played or are just as fun as new shit.

Vice President of Microsoft stated in an interview that the Xbox one will have a requirement to be connected to the Internet ONCE PER DAY. What a joke. This console generation belongs to Sony. The wii u has no 3rd par support and the Xbox one has too many strings attached.
Sony also patented a way to block used games but so far they are remaining quiet about that. If Sony goes this route with the ps4, dear lord.

They can't make this crapup. They really need to blow the doors off at E3.
But this all makes sense. I mean, anyone could see that Microsoft clearly wanted to dominate the living room and this is the natural evolution of their plan.

I'm shocked that people are surprised, and quite frankly, upset, about the lack of backwards compatibility. We all should have seen this coming. When you're making significant changes to the guts of the console and the way it functions, you have to expect that the ability to play the previous generation's disks are likely to be one of the first things to take a bullet in the name of cost effectiveness.
I have plenty of reservations and questions about this console, but backwards compatibility isn't one of them. If I want this console, and I want to continue playing 360 games, I'll just use my two perfectly good 360s.
