Nasty McDonalds Manager, Story Inside

It was probably about the same time or maybe just a bit after when she put her hand out. Honestly I have never heard of this being out of line or anything and I have been paying for things for a long, loooong time. I would not be offended by that if I was a cashier. I am giving her my hard earned money. The money that I had my balls broken to earn. I'll be damned if I have to have my balls broken to give it to someone. Too bad if she was offended whether I was not being courteous or not. She should have done what everyone else does. Wait until I am not there and can't hear her and then tell everyone how much of a jerk I was by not kissing her ass.

I work at Subway and it annoys me when people just throw the money on the counter. Is it really that hard just to hand us the money? It just seems rude to me. Not justifying her response but that's how I feel.

FINALLY! This and the last couple of posts. People finally get it. You wouldn't have been happy (nor would any customer) if a cashier placed your change on the counter.

It's kind and courteous to hand the money to a cashier, like a normal person. Same way we're trained to hand the change to customers. Very rude to place the money on the counter. Major issue lots of people have. Never have worked retail or with a register and don't understand common courtesy of paying for items (not saying you don't). I've watched guests place the money far from me, I'll just stare at them for fun. They'll then either pick it up and hand it to me, or I'll give in and pick it up. Quite fun when we're just staring at each other. More than half of the time though, I'm too busy to deal with the "customer's" BS. I've also placed their change on the counter. Do unto others, JS. You wouldn't want the change placed on the counter when buying something. That cashier doesn't want the payment placed on the counter either.

She wasn't in the right by saying anything while you were still present, but she most likely felt disrespected. There's no reason she should feel disrespected as a person and be made to "deal with it". Same way she shouldn't have disrespected you and your wife.

EDIT: Sorry about that small rant. Been working retail since I was done high school (7+ years) and common courtesy from guests is something that really gets to me. Haha

I work customer service at a convenience store full time, and people like you absolutely piss me off to no end. Just who do you think you are that makes you better than anyone who works a minimum wage job? At least people "flipping burgers" have a job and aren't being lousy scabs living off of tax payers money. They're contributing what they can. I'm so sorry you look down at them and their "sad faces".

Yeah, I work a bs job, but at least I am working and I do everything at my job to the best of my ability. I'm doing what I have to just to pay my bills while I work toward another goal when I am not on the clock there. For all you know, a lot of people are doing the exact same. Even if they are stuck at a dead end job it is still an honest paying job and they work for their pay.

As for the topic at hand, I can't count the number of times I've gotten onto employees at my store for being rude for no reason. If a job pays your bills, keeps a roof over your head, and keeps you fed, you take pride in that job and you handle yourself as professionally as possible. If not, you can get the out and find somewhere else to work, because I sure don't want anyone damaging the reputation of where I work.

As far as people thinking an "education" is the big defining difference in not ending up in a crap job... Need I remind you this country is in a recession? Just because you go to school for something does not assure you a "good job" these days. In fact, until you can find a job in the field you studied in, you just might have to work somewhere like McDonald's just to pay off your debts and keep yourself fed.

Having worked as a cashier, not getting handed money was one of my biggest pet peeves.

Anyone who is trying to justify the manager woman getting pissed off because people don't always hand them cash needs to wake up. How much respect does this woman honestly feel she deserves? I worked a register for 2 years and saw this same kinda stuff happen. These girls would go off on customers for not handing them the money. It boggled my mind. Not sure how anyone can see that as disrespectful or ignorant. Any people who do must have some sort of pride complex.

Well said! Especially the last part. I work at an Olive Garden and we have TONS of people working there, and I know others outside of work as well, that have teaching degrees (there's a major well-known teaching university in my town) and just can't find a job. So they're working wherever they can to make ends meet until they get their big break. I've been working there for 6 years now bussing tables, and it's hard to find anything that pays more than that where I live. Everyone pays like crap because there's an endless influx of college kids that will work for minimum wage from the two universities in town.

i wasn't speaking down on everyone that has a minimum wage job, just the ones that hate it, and don't care, and take it out on the customers. sorry if i offended you. i used to work third shift at a gas station and got robbed at gun point, so i know how hard some of the jobs are, and how much risk is there. i liked the job, but it had no job security or any prevention of danger like that. for a month straight, it was robbed durring early morning hours. scary.
