Ok so many of you know I am a vegetarian. I am not Vegan so I'll eat Pizza (cheese) and every once in a while Egg Whites. So McDonalds now has this McEgg White Muffin Sandwich. I had to work late today so I figure I'll take my wife to work and we'll grab some breakfast first and I can try out that Egg White thing.
I haven't been to a McDonalds in years. Probably like 25 years. We go in, place our order. I ordered the Egg White Muffin, no meat and coffee. My Wife ordered Oatmeal and coffee. Came to $10 and change. So the lady tells us the price and I proceed to take out a $10 bill and put it on the counter, then the change on top of that. I slid it to her and she stuck out her hand. Then she grabbed the money, got the coffees and slammed them on the counter. She quickly got the food and threw that on the counter. I thought 'damn she's in a hurry'. Oh well what ever.
My wife and I sat down to eat and she tells me "I am surprised you did not say anything". I said well if she probably was in a hurry helping drive through orders. My wife then says "What about when she said 'You're Ignorant'. I was like "WHAT?". Are you serious she said that? I didn't even hear that or notice that. Then my wife knew... she begged me not to make a scene, but she knows me better than that.
I went to the lady and asked her "Did you call me Ignorant?" and she said "YES I DID". I said how dare do you talk to me or any other customer that way and I just laid it all in her giving her a piece of my mind and then asked for my money back and gave her back the food. The best part about it, she was the manager! She handed me the money back and I asked for the receipt and she gave me that. No name on the receipt so I asked her her name and 4 times of me asking her she told me. I then told her I was calling corporate, the franchise owner, and whoever else I can contact. She just so "Go Ahead".
I got home, called corporate McDonalds. Gave them the complaint, store number, name, etc. I told them I was the franchise owner or manager to call me. 20 min late he did call. I explained the situation to him. He offered me a gift card to apologize. I told him I do not want the gift card and that's not an apology. I don'tr want her fired. What I do want is either that lady to call me or I can go there and I want an apology from her.
So I get the call. It's her. She says "I apologize for calling you that". I said "Ok but why would you talk to a customer that way and I was not being mean or anything to you". She says "Ok bye" and hangs up. So I got a fake, very insincere so called apology. I guess that's what I get for being a nice guy and telling them not to fire her or anything else. Incidentally, McDonalds corporate and franchise are getting another call from me. Unreal.

You go once in 25 years and have an experience like that. I go fairly regularly and never had a problem. You get some right ignorant people in the world.

People are just horribly rude. I've never had an experience like that, but I would do the same. Honestly, you should've said "I'M THE ADMIN OF WFIGS PROBOARDS NOW BOW DOWN AND GIVE ME RESPECT!

maybe she was mad because she thinks she deserves $15 an hour to flip burgeres like the rest of them people who are all sad faced their GED landed them there, or lack of education for that matter. i could never do a fast food job. only if i was trying to move up in management, wouldn't it be worth the hassle.

I would never expect anyone to bow down to me, lol. I am not looking for that. But I do expect common courtesy. Hell if I was the meanest customer in the world she should be courteous or at least walk away and let someone more qualified and in a better mood to deal with it. I didn't even do anything wrong, I was not disrespectful or mean. Somehow though she thought that by me not picking up the money and putting it in her hand that I was being disrespectful. And even if it was... a manager of a McDonalds who cannot handle a disrespectful customer? Seriously? How does someone like this become a manager of anywhere? How is that even possible? JS

Wait why did she say you were ignorant though? Because she expected me to pick the money up off the counter and place it in her hand. Maybe I should bow down to her and kiss her feet, throw her a parade, and beg for her worthiness? We ended up going to a place called "Nifty Fiftys" and sat down, go severed way more food and it cost less even with tip! And I didn't get treated like a piece of crap. yay!

Maybe it was just a misunderstanding? From what I read, it seems to me like she held out her hand for the money and you placed it on the counter and slid it to her instead. I was at a store one time and a cashier almost got into a fight with a customer who put the money on the counter and slid it to him instead of handing it to him. The cashier accused the customer of not wanting to hand the money to him because he (the cashier) was black and the customer was white.
If the lady at McDonalds was also black, maybe she misinterpreted your intent by sliding her the money? Whatever the case may be, obviously the McDonalds manager handled it VERY poorly.

Was she mad because you slipped the money to her instead of handing it to her or something? Her actions/words seem just absolutely ridiculous and unwarranted, can't blame you for being frustrated. Bizarre.

I wouldn't let that bother me. She probably gets paid a few dollars above minimum wage. I would just tell everybody not to go to that particular location because that lady. There is a local restaurant that has a really rude waitress and we tend to not eat there when she is working.

She was black and I am white. It had nothing to do with white or black, and if there was no change or a little change I would have put it in her hand. There was a lot of change, maybe like 87 cents worth or something like that. It was much quicker and made more sense for her to pick it up rather than me trying to pick all that up and hand it to her like she's some kind of god. If she was white or Indian or Asian or whatever I would have done the same exact thing. Maybe she did think that but I don't know how that would even imply anything racist.

Burger king is way better, dude. I do go there sometimes for their veggie-burgers and fries. If they had egg whites I'd try them for breakfast. Wawa and Dunkin Donuts both have egg whites and nice people who don't mind if I put the money on the counter.

I'd call them back and get her fired now.. I already called corporate back. The franchise manager has to call me back now. I have a feeling he won't though.

JS Kinda reminds me of when people come on these boards and try to spark conversation only to RUDELY be shut down/deleted/warning barred. All you wanted was breakfast, and all people want on here is to chat. In your case you were a customer at McDonalds and were rudely attended to by a cashier, in wfigs member's cases they are usually customers of Ringside and get shut down by you. In both cases someone elses frame of mind decided the outcome. It just sounds to me like you had some Jack Specific cough medicine. I can see why you would delete/ban/warning bar people, and I can see why she would have called you ignorant. Everyone always has an excuse for what they do. Maybe it depended on the situation. The brief time I worked a register I remember I hated it when I extended my hand to collect payment from someone only to have them place the money on the counter. I use to think, seriously? You saw my hand extended, yet you're too good to give me something directly? Now I have to pick it up off a counter? Maybe that's what you did? Maybe the lady was having a bad day? Maybe you looked at her funny? These kinds of situations happen all the time. What I will say I like about McDonalds is they take responsibility. They offered you a gift card. I would have taken it, those gift card arent free and they add up. If you're constantly giving away gift cards then sooner or later there will be a meeting to stop rude customer service. When ever I recieve bad customer service I always let the company know. Good companys usually take action. Bad companys usually are a pain just to contact someone to register your complaint. I think it stinks you had a bad time, yet the cashier had a worse time. She was obviously upset, who knows why. Only she had to hear it from her boss now because of you, and her actions of course. Just remember there's always more than 1 side to every story.
