I agree with JS. Someone said "How hard is it to put the money in their hand?"..... how hard is it to pick it off the counter? Would you be upset if the cashier gave you your change on the counter? Not being rude, just asking. I mean because if not then fair enough. But I've done it to customers just as an experiment and they always get upset, despite them doing the SAME exact thing. I'm not saying that it's okay to go tit for tat because the burden of hospitality is on the cashier. But like I said earlier, the respect goes both ways and putting the money in the hand of the cashier is small part of the customer/clerk equation. To me, it all rides on if the hand is out waiting. Whether you're giving the money or receiving change, if the hand is there and you knowingly put the money on the counter, then thats a douche move. If the hand is to their side or something, I think its open season lol. And I dont mind tit-for-tat actually on the matter though. Even if I was the cashier, getting the money first, I wouldnt mind if it was put on the counter. Id be almost thankful, not having to touch everyones hands (as if the money isnt dirty enough lol).

McDonalds staff are the absolute worst. They are here in the UK, anyway. They don't bother to look at you when you approach the counter, half way through you giving them your order they walk off to do something or they interrupt with 'eating in or taking out?'. They slam the food down infront of you and just last week I was served a blue McFlurry. I took it back because obviously it wasn't right, it looked like it had cleaning solution mixed in with the ice cream or something and all I got of the assistant was 'what do you want me to do about it?'.

I don't know which one you go to, but that doesn't sound like the vast majority. We usually wait until the order is finished before asking if you're eating in or taking out. No clue why that person walked away half way through the order though.

Maybe its just this particular one, I don't know. Doesn't really bother me too much because the food is always good, lol.

The fact of the matter is that anyone who works retail has pet peeves that customers do. Setting money on the counter and sliding to me happens to me every night I work, multiple times. I hardly notice it now, it sure isn't that big of a deal to me, heck I've had much worse. Want me to go into detail? Okay. Examples: I've had people expect me to pick the bills and change out of their hands. I had a guy (who thankfully isn't a regular anymore) come in, and while he would pull out the bills in his wallet, he would crumple them up into a ball in the hand he is picking them out of the wallet with, as he was counting. Then he would hand me a balled up, crumpled mishmash of bills. People have handed me moist money, either wet from sweat, beer, or... something else entirely. There was a woman who would come in that I assume would go to Sonic (drive-in fast food place), and use her money as a napkin. No, I'm not joking. She would come in and pay for her items with bills that had mustard, and ketchup on them... and I don't mean just a little, I mean 80% of the bills would be saturated. When I finally got word from the district supervisor that NO ONE at the store had to accept her money, I told her unless she stopped being a heathen and washed her money, it was no good here. Seriously, if I can run hot water, and use soap, and wash your money, so can you.I've had someone once try to pay for $23.00 in gas with loose change, brought in inside of a dirty sock. ...really, the stories are endless. If money being placed on the counter and slid to you is the worst experience you've had with customers paying for items, you're lucky. What a nightmare working in retail lol. How long did it take before you gave word to your supervisor about this particular customer? I told him about it after the second time. It took two more times for him to give the okay. Once, alright... well, it's definitely strange, but maybe just a one off occurrence. Twice, a little suspect. THREE OR MORE?!?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

If she can't refrain from calling someone "ignorant" WHILE the customer is actually there, she shouldn't be working a retail job. Professionalism goes a long way.

As I said in another reply, just say what a jerk I was when I walk away. As they say "If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen". On another note, I noticed that I do that ALL the time. I never paid attention to how I handed the money before but now that I am more aware I noticed I always put the money on the counter or register shelf thingie unless they put out their hand first. I don't do it to be rude or anything, it's just how I do it and how I always did it. However I am always nice to the associates/employees. I always say hello and I always say thanks. I am never rude or disrespectful to anyone. The other day the owner of that McDonalds (he's a franchise owner of several actually) and he apologized and said she was getting written up. So be it. JS

People are just horribly rude. I've never had an experience like that, but I would do the same. Honestly, you should've said "I'M THE ADMIN OF WFIGS PROBOARDS NOW BOW DOWN AND GIVE ME RESPECT! I would never expect anyone to bow down to me, lol. I am not looking for that. But I do expect common courtesy. Hell if I was the meanest customer in the world she should be courteous or at least walk away and let someone more qualified and in a better mood to deal with it. I didn't even do anything wrong, I was not disrespectful or mean. Somehow though she thought that by me not picking up the money and putting it in her hand that I was being disrespectful. And even if it was... a manager of a McDonalds who cannot handle a disrespectful customer? Seriously? How does someone like this become a manager of anywhere? How is that even possible? JS Won't lie, as someone who works as a cashier, I do dislike when I hold out my hand to accept money and people make a point to put in on the counter, comes out very rude in my opinion, it feels like the customer is telling you that you're too lowly to bother handing it to. If I'm busy with the till or something, then I don't mind, I just find it quite rude and not very courteous, and it's a major pet peeve of mine. But I don't freak out at people lol, it's my job to have the straight face about it. Some days I do subliminally retort, since I sell tickets at the movie theater, if someone clearly manoevers around my hand to slam the money on the counter (qhich is sad, but yes, people do specifically reach around/under my hand to do that) I'll usually just slide them their tickets on the counter instead of handing them directly to them lol. But yeah, she over reacted for sure.

Though I will make it perfectly clear, I don't freak out about it, despite being something I find quite rude. It isn't worth ruining my day or someone elses, and over reacting to someone doing it is stupid. If you can't handle it, there are much worse things that happen at retail lol. And again, it doesn't bother me if I'm still ringing in their purchase when they have their money ready, it just bugs me when I go to take their money and they make a point to not hand it to me. Same thing when I'm ripping and checking tickets for entry at the theater, tons of people make a point to manoever around my hand and slam the tickets down on the podium. It's rude, but not worth making a big deal over lol. I have bigger issues to vent my anger at. I'll save those moments for the worst customers, and even then, me saying anything is rare. The last time I remember doing it was when I told a customer they couldn't bring in their fast food, and they grabbed my wrist very tightly and started yelling at me. I told them to get the out of the theater.

It's funny that you posted this recently... yesterday a manager spoke to me with such a tone and attitude. I told my story and gave feedback through their "McDonalds Customer Feedback Survey" and requested that someone contact me via email. I got an apology from the franchise owner, but didn't get a gift card (which to be honest, I was hoping for lol)
