They may have only been at KMart, but Legends 1 & 2 were released at the same time as them so if you found one you didn't need the other. So they competed with their own sales. And it's not like KMart is a small chain some places only have KMarts. But for areas like mime that had KMart, TRU, Target and WM all with Legends and KMart with both Legends and HOF. Once you got either you were done.

i believe it was the hall of fame figures that did the series in, Poor Kmart was left with the same figures from the first series only to include a hall of fame plaque. i feel if Mattel really wanted to move those figures they would have been better off doing some repaints or different looks for the same wrestlers. I have been collecting for years and had on problems with the any of the wrestlers they made figures of because most were things that Jakks didn't do. Mattel decided to get the collectors that collected Jakks classic line to buy into the legends line and you need something new to attract some sales. It was a let down to see the same exact figures from series one in that hall of fame set with the line just starting and nothing new for you to get excited about. If the line was able to continue would have been cool to see Papa Shango, Big boss Man in the legends line in the Legends box.

i will say that having two version of kerry, and kevin in one set was a bit much. they could've held off on one to have something for later down the line. i agree with your statement about having out at the same time and that means the first two set were over produced, which is a major turnoff for collectors like myself. i thought once Mattel took over that they would make the WWE figures even more colllectable

i will say this the only figures from the legends line i was not really impressed with were: Brian Pillman, the Rock, and Hacksaw jim Duggan, forgot hillbilly jim figure everyone was done pretty good to me. i just wished the line was given more time to improve upon.

They should have waited a bit to before launching the legends line......was too early as a lot of collectors at the time were still sticking with there Jakks Classics.....had they waited awhile and you see how popular the WWE Mattel line is now people would have been all over the line.....you see now that the WWE line as a whole has picked up steam people are paying crazy prices for many of these legends figs now online.....

i think a lot of that is due to the fact that there aren't many per box so their more rare than the legend line.

They should've have established the elite line first. I wasn't a member here back then. It looks like the Legends line didn't even last a year? And from what i can tell they put out Legends sets even quicker than the Elite Collection Series figures. In the first 4 months of its inception....they were already on Series 3? But on the flip-side of that coin. I can imagine this board had a ton of ppl complaining that there wasn't a Legends line at the start.

Looking at the "Mattel Checklist"
They put out more classic elite figures in the Legends lines 11 months..........than they have w/ all the Flashbacks combined since its inception 3 years ago

The first set.
They had Sgt Slaughter, Dusty, LOD and Steamboat. Granted, they got Dusty right. But then they went with obscure attires like Slaughter's white AWA attire when he should have been in his more iconic Camo attire and LOD? Come on. Nobody remembers LOD like that. I think I can speak for most of us when I say those figures would look a hell of a lot better if they were in the iconic red attires from WWE.
Steamboat... meh. He should have been in white IMO but it didn't matter all that much.
Slaughter and LOD while it was cool to see Mattel think outside the box, they should have got the iconic attires first and foremost.

I agree about Slaughter in his classic attire. In the classics range they should have included some heavy hitters, like SCSA or Macho Man in the first wave. In the tag team box sets they should have started with Demolition and either had Red LOD or the Road Warriors rather than have them individually and Im sure they would have sold more.
The only good thing you could say about volkoff and sheik is they are good fodder for customs

Pretty much the whole first set, imo. Just poor choices for the first series.

I completely agree with the timing. I remember on January 1, 2010, Basics FLOODED Kmarts around me. Although they didn't last long on shelves (because they were fresh and the price point was acceptable), they could have waited to release the Legends a bit. Legends hit in June/July 2010, which was at the time Entrance Greats, Elites, (maybe Defining Moments?) and Basics were all on shelves. I remember not being able to keep up with all of the waves being released. Add to that, Legends that were poor ideas for Series 1 (with a few exceptions), and I think all of these factors contributed to its failure.

I'd have to say off the top of the head the fat black guy from the gimmick battle royal at wm17 what a waste who else is responsible? I think Pullman maybe too I hope to God that you're just trolling, and aren't actually that ignorant... Sadly man he isn't trolling.

Wrong time and Hall of fame series killed them.
Yeah there where bad choices for the lines beginning but some of this figures where awesome. Some of the figures were poorly executed also....Hacksaw, Perfect, but most were great.

I honesty don't think Mattel waiting would have made much difference. Let's look at what jakks was producing in there classic line from the beginning , if I can recall most of that first set a classics saw Shawn Michaels, and triple H were still on the active roster, Andre had two straps instead of one and if I can recall they had two mick Foley characters in one set. As far as the road warriors not being in red, I have to kind of laugh because they were more memorable in their black tights and pads by older fans than the cartoonish red ones that they wore in the WWF. Terry funk's attire is from his actual days working full time with WWF from his feud with Hogan, and JYD. The terry funk the texan. I'm sorry but I like that they picked that attire. I had seen enough funker terry funk from jakks's line.
