Thank you very much for clearning that up. Somehow I missed any mention of this story in my own looking around in the forum. This makes sense, I though DJ Kat was a member here.
I looked the show up and apparently it was no longer a show by the time the Sgt. Slaughter WWF figures were made but the characters from the show were appearing when other cartoons were being shown at the time during certain saturday lineups. And where there was no mention of a WWF tie-in, I did see mention of a Transformers tie in and a few other similar cartoons, which makes me wonder if the sgt. slaughter figures werent obtained to promote the new GI Joe cartoon at the time, which would have been just coming out and on which Sgt. Slaughter was a prominent character. Some of you might remember this, Destro had a gold head and Cobra Commander had like a robot suit. Slaughter was one of the only Joes brought over from the movie cast.

I remember the first time I knew WWF Hasbro figures were available to buy in the UK.
They were listed in "Satellite Times" but didn't even have photos. This would have been very late 1990.

If there were figures given away as part of a competition on a saturday morning kids entertainment show, I can't imagine there were many 'winners', so therefore, on that logic, any figure that came from this avenue would be very rare indeed, which obviously explains the high prices being paid for them. I believe they were probably bagged for ease of postage, cheaper and safer than posting out a carded figure, think how many complaints they have got about the damaged packaging., just my opinion though

What you need to remember though, rarity doesn't necessarily equate to something being extremely valuable. For me, these 'other' bagged figures are just the same generic loose figures that are found on card. Not something I consider to be particularly valuable. I know others probably do see something in them. After all, everyone is entitled to their own opinion; good, bad or indifferent.

After all, everyone is entitled to their own opinion; good, bad or indifferent. when I've seen them in auction, they've sold well, which means at least 2 people wanted them, and thought they were worth more than a loose figure, I only base values on what people are prepared to pay, thats any people, I quite like them, but I prefer my figures loose, of course there would be exceptions to that rule, namely the 2 figures in your pic Ry.

Exactly. You are right. I was just meaning rarity needs to go with how well something is coveted. I think the loose bagged figures are less coveted than other rare items, but it does only take a few people to really want something to drive up the price. The bagged figures our dear ebay friend has been selling has had some large fluctuations in final selling price. Laterally going for less I seem to recall. Each to their own. They're just not for me.

Some great tales on here, I appreciate you sharing them Andy. I grew up in the UK and can relate to a lot of what's you said. On the subject of the bagged Hasbro's - I think the stigma attached to these bagged figures is slightly unfair. The stories attached to them have been hugely manipulated over the years to the point where people think the figures aren't legit. It's debatable if they are valuable and /or collectable (depending on your preferences) as Ry said previously but I don't doubt the legitimacy of the vast majority. For those collectors that have been around since the 90's and early 00s, you'll be familiar with Figures Inc. who were based pretty close to Hasbro and a huge name in Wrestling collectables. Well, back in about 98/99 they were selling Hasbro factory bagged figures - picture below.

Like others said above I believe it was a way to save postage! I had the experience where I bought a Mattel or Jakks fig of Matt hardy via catalogue of EMP and got him in a bag too! I never really thought about where I got it but now I wondered why it wasn't in a package!only an idea that some dealer did on the same way?!

Bag then nobody cared about a common figure in a stupid bag. $30-40 apiece was always ridiculous for what they were ultimately selling. Of course, that is assuming you couldn't turn around and sell them to someone for twice the cost or more because they thought it was something amazing.

Greetings folks. I have been off the boards for over a month dealing with some bad circumstances. I've been made redundant from my job and at risk of losing my house and becoming homeless! I've already had to sell some very prized assets to keep my head afloat and it has now came that I also need to sell my entire WWF collection now too or I am in big trouble. I have thought long and hard about it and it breaks my heart and absolutely destroys me to have to do it but I now have no alternative but to sell the whole lot. I am just looking for some advice from most of you as to where the best place to sell my collection would be? To sell the whole lot in bulk or seperately? I know there is classified and I do not want to use ebay if possible and if I can avoid it I will as it is a delicate time for me and I need to sell quick and I do not want to have to deal with fee's, Disputes or chargeback hassles etc. that could arise. It is my holy grail since my childhood and so things are already stressful and emotional as it is for me. Any ideas would be very much welcomed. Thanks : /
