Hogan had a bigger effect, but in terms of raw shock it has to be 21-1. No one, NO ONE expected that.

I think this is an awesome question. I'm leaning more towards 21-1, only because Hogan's career needed a shot in the arm. It was insanely shocking, but looking back, it made sense.

21-1 has brought emotions out me I thought were LONG Gone as far as wrestling goes. They completely suspended my disbelief. I felt like a little kid again. It didn't seem real. It was so shocking. No one. NO ONE could've predicted it.
A lot of ppl were starting to grow sour on hogan in wcw anyway. His heel turn was indeed very shocking but I believe it was inevitable. Taker losing the streak wasn't. I didn't think it would ever die.

My jaw didn't drop when Hogan joined the NWO. Sure, it was shocking... but Brock beating the Undertaker blew my mind. My jaw hit the floor and I couldn't believe what I had just seen.

For me 21-1
I wasn't around wrestling for Hogans turn though so slight biased oppinion...
I just think that no body really bet lesnar would win. Since HBK's first effort I thought someone might have ended the streak this year I "knew" Undertaker would win, and for the first time in a long time ive felt a propper connection with what i was watching on the small screen just like everyone else in the superdome i was stunned too.

Hogan by far. Hogans turn changed the face of the industry and started one of the most important story lines in history. It's only a few days after, but by all accounts, Brock is taking some time off and taker isn't coming back anytime soon. It was a quick jolt while Hogans leg drop was a long lasting wave.

I've legit never been so shocked about much else in my life than when the refs hand hit the mat a 3rd successive time.

Anyone saying 21-1 simply was not watching wrestling at the time of the nWo. The 21-1 was surprising, in retrospect I feel like it should have seen more obvious. Taker is a huge MMA fan, he would hand pick who he lost too, he's always been the type of guy who would use his last few matches to put people over, Lesnar is a former UFC champ so he's a believable winner, etc.
To put the Hogan turn into perspective nothing like that had ever happened before, fans didn't know how to process it. So what you're comparing is a wrestler losing a match to the biggest storyline turn in wrestling history.

Hogan turning heel changed the wrestling world forever. Taker losing at WM shocked people for a few days. Now ask yourself which was bigger... Bigger? Of course. But the topic is about which is more shocking. Which IMO is definitely the Streak.

Nobody will believe this but....
I was watching the Bash at the Beach with my friends and I halfheartedly made a comment that Hogan was the third man. They all laughed at me. Then later in the night when Hogan walked out they all gave me that look. When it happened I wasn't as shocked as I should have been cause I kinda ruined it for myself. I did the same thing at WM20 with Trish Stratus. I predicted she'd help Christian and I was laughed at. They don't laugh anymore.
The Streak ending is something I never guessed. Shocked the hell out of me. I was eating a piece of pizza to stop from nodding off (cause the match was pretty stale and I just watched the two hour pre-show plus two hours of WM so I was pooping out). My friend was just coming back from the bathroom cause he was not into the match either. And they hit the 3 count. With pizza in my mouth, I left out a few expletives in mere shock. Never would have guessed it.

21-1 easily, if you were a dirtsheet reader back in '96, you knew a good month before Bash at the Beach that Hogan most likely was going to be the third guy. The only real question was whether or not he would go through with it. I was into all of the wrestling websites and chat rooms (wut) back then and I never saw a single mention of Hogan as the third man. The only names I really remember being tossed around were Bret Hart and Bam Bam Bigelow (as far as new wrestlers... there were also rumors that Sting or Luger might turn during the match). I think the obvious answer is Hogan. It came out of absolutely nowhere and was a bold, risky move for him at the time. With 'Taker I think I speak for the majority when I say that I thought he'd win, but I also thought that eventually his streak would end. I think I was about 90/10 on 'Taker winning, but with Hogan there were about 1000 guys I would have guessed before him. I was pretty well convinced, about five minutes in, that Luger was going to run back in at the end of the match and side with Hall and Nash. Glad I was wrong. Then you didn't subscribe to the Pro Wrestling Torch, because Wade Keller was talking about Hogan being the third guy the entire time. In fact, if I remember correctly, the headline story of the Torch the week before the Bash was about whether or not Hogan would go through with the heel turn. If you subscribed to the Torch or the Observer at the time, you knew that Hogan was most likely going to be the third guy.

I sure didn't. Puts me with the 99.999999% of other fans at the time I guess.
