Partial Source: PW InsiderChris Jericho had this to say about why Vince McMahon isn't a fan of tournaments: When the subject of the King of the Ring came up, Y2J says on what Vince McMahon thinks about tournaments:‘Vince McMahon does not like tournaments. I think because Wrestlemania 4 was a tournament for the title and it didn’t do a good ppv number and the show wasn’t very good. And ever since then he does not like tournaments."

Vince may not like them
but EVERYONE ELSE EVER does. but the WWE is Vince and always will be Vince. he doesn't care that we like tournaments....he doesn't. that would kind of explain things

Wrestlemania IV did poor numbers because the belt should have never been taken off Hogan to begin with then.
Survivor Series 98 on the other hand, was an awesome tournament for the WWE Championship. And the IC Title tournament in October of that year was good too on Raw.
For someone not like tournaments he sure had a lot of them each year with the King of the Ring from 1993 - 2002 whether it be 8 men or 4 men on the card going for that KOTR crown!

WWE need to develop some form of the G1 Climax that New Japan does.
Also, the more tournaments the better.

Well Vince, maybe if Ricky "the freaking Dragon" Steamboat wouldn't have lost to Greg "the human potato" Valentine in the first round at WMIV, then we could have had a rematch of Steamboat/Savage and things would have been perceived a lil better! K?

i CAN takE OR leave TOURNAMENTS PERSONALLY. They seem kind of tedious and pointless imo. Battle royals and 5 on 5 eliminations on the other hand, are much more exciting and unpredictable imo. I sorta agree with Vance about tournaments in general, all though I have great disdain for his love of tag matches besides of course classic 5 on 5 Survivor Series matches.

I'm not a real fan of tournaments either the only one I ever liked was King of the ring. Remember Chris Benoit vs. Booker T's best of 5 series tournament? I was never so bored in my life. |
