Always found a tournament to be interesting. KOTR, Beat the Clock, Gold Rush, Championship tournaments; the more the better!

I loved the wrestling classic from 85. The King of the Ring was really good when it first came out and Vince should love them because that's really where Stone Cold Steve Austin was born.

Well Vince, maybe if Ricky "the freaking Dragon" Steamboat wouldn't have lost to Greg "the human potato" Valentine in the first round at WMIV, then we could have had a rematch of Steamboat/Savage and things would have been perceived a lil better! K? Thoughts? I agree with you up to the "human potato" comment. Greg was a human Boulder. Lol That rematch would have been a fantastic final round match of the tournament.

Tournaments are awesome, I rally enjoy them. I prefer them to battle royals and Beat the Clocks but all are actually pretty fun.

Vince McMahon isn't really a fan of WRESTLING, either.
If it was up to him the whole thing would be a reality show and instead of having matches for titles, maybe they would run obstacle courses, have food fights, do comedy improve chanllenges, and talk about social media.

K? Thoughts? Never thought of that before but I definently agree, why the hell didn't Steamboat/Savage happen again in the tournament? That would have been amazing.

Read this as "Vince McMahon reportedly not a fan of "the black people""

It didn't happen in fear that the fans would boo Savage and cheer Steamboat when remembering what Savage did to Steamboat a year before. I believe all the tournament matches at WM IV were face vs. heel to make sure the face was cheered and the heel was booed.

I personally like tournaments, they can go a long way in establishing stars.

But he's fine with the same match that has the same formula twice a week...Odd.

I don't think Vince even knows what he's a fan of or not at this point

Not surprised to hear that. Tournaments have some positives if done correctly. If WWE can do something like the G1 Climax it would be interesting and can build future stars.

So he doesn't like tournaments because he didn't like the outcome of one of his tournaments from nearly 30 years ago?
Yep, that makes perfect sense.

I just love Vince's logic: take a great or potentially great idea and book it HOrRIBLY.
Then, when it inevitably doesn't produce (since booked poorly), get angry at the great idea or concept for not delivering a miracle and forever remain angry at the concept.....which was never the issue to begin with.
The truth is: Vince's ideas are.....mostly awful. I've listened to soooo many interviews, docs and so forth for many years. Most of the great things that have happened on WWF/E TV are the ideas of someone other than Vince or the wrestlers themselves either pushing the envelope despite Vince's disagreeing or just flat out not listening to him.
The only time he actually allowed himself to step back and let the stuff take on an innovative nature is when he nearly went out of business in the late 90s and literally had no other option but to admit he was out of touch and let the guys steer their own ship a bit more.....and he would have never done it unless his back was literally against the wall.

If this is true why would he do a KOTR PPV for years?

I like them but they shouldn't happen too often.
It seems like the next potential one will be for the IC Title although I think they will just have a battle royal.
I just think that the 8 people in the tournament for the IC Title would basically be all of the KOTR competitors and that would be a repeat for the most part..
It would be nice if they did a tournament for the World Title and or Divas Title # contendership because we have not seen one for those titles in a long time.

Okay, let me break this down for everybody. Tournaments are good to have but they should be protected. One of the reasons why WrestleMania IV didn't do all that well is because the first Clash of the Champions happened to be on the same night. To be honest, WrestleMania IV is one of the hardest PPV's to sit and watch. For sixteen matches, you'll see why it is tough to watch. I feel bad for the crowd in Atlantic City who had to pay to watch it live. Fast forward to the 1993 King of the Ring. It was dune to showcase what the WWF had been doing at house shows from 1985-1991.
The WWE won't ever do their version of the G1 Climax. Just because it works in Japan doesn't mean it would work in the WWE. Not to mention, there have been guys in the last two G1 shows who got injured. Something the WWE is trying to prevent in this day and age. You don't need a tournament to build future stars. A veteran giving a up-and-comer the rub is all that is really needed.
NXT has done good to how tournaments are presented and protected. There is no need for the WWE to constantly do tournaments. Specialty concepts (Royal Rumble, King of The Ring, Money In The Bank, etc.) should be protected. Once something loses its meaning in wrestling, it would be tough to add prestige back into it.
