Scratch that - the NJPW one is tonight at 7. I'm still not going because I'm not staying down here that late with a three year old.

Would it kill y'all to shower every once and again. I mean, come on - I've been to NYCC twice, and AB was ten times stankier than either of those experiences.

Yeah, AB was rank. I kinda knew what I was in for - years ago, when my wife and I were still dating, I'd taken her down for pre-reg the night before one year and that alone nearly put me off culture cons in general for the duration. It's such a shame too, because barring general basic hygiene, I am about the most forgiving guy when it comes to the over indulgence of one's hobbies, to the point that I've fought normals in the street before at random over passive comments they made to cosplayers, 'cause I think everyone should be the best them imaginable, and if that means squeezing into your best papier mache Righty costume for the weekend, then do you, man, but god damn, you've gotta shower after the fact.

Granted, I ain't ever been to a con before this where so many people thought they had a grasp on the Japanese language, either. F*ck right off with that unless you've passed at least the Level IV proficiency exam (the existence of which I only know because my wife's got that sh*t certified on paper). Years ago, I couldn't have told you butchered Japanese from any other, but working around it on the daily for five years now? Dude, don't even try, 'cause I don't speak a lick of it, and even I know you're doing it wrong.

You're a regular gym class hero sticking up for the cosplayers. I don't cosplay personally, but I'm lucky I didn't get arrested a couple of years ago for sticking up for my friend. She's a really tiny girl, under five foot and under a hundred pounds soaking wet. She's also very high functioning on the autistic spectrum so she doesn't do super great with crowds as it is which is why she clings to my side and I basically serve as her escort which is fine because we have similar interests anyways and I've kinda always been that for her even back in high school when she'd get overwhelmed. But two years ago she decided she was going to cosplay, and being as tiny as she is naturally the fit for her would be one of those lolita type costumes. She was getting harassed by a couple of guys who were following us throughout the convention area, which she even told me on the drive there she knew was going to happen because...well...Google it with safe search on and you'll understand why, and staff didn't do anything about it when we originally complained so on the return around I pushed the guy up against the wall and told him to leave her alone and the staff came flying in and wrenched me away from him and tossed him and his friend out. I was expecting to get tossed because while they started it I'm the one who started the physicality but they gave me a pass on it because I had complained and I was defending my friend and since I didn't punch him they would just leave well enough alone.

Regarding the Japanese thing, again yeah I feel ya. I mean, don't get me wrong...if you watch enough foreign media you're bound to pick up some of the vernacular. But without knowing the rules and proper syntax...don't make a fool of yourself trying to have a full conversation in a broken version of a language neither of you fully understand. I mean, English is a language of thievery. We have our own ish but we jack a ton of words from other languages. And with the rise in trade dealings with East Asia, it makes sense that some simple Japanese, Chinese and Korean would slowly assimilate into our language as that's just how our language works. Always has, always will. But to act a fool thinking you can talk the full language just based off of what you've heard in anime? Nah, fam. You might know words, but that doesn't mean you can speak it.
