I see a ton of people poo-pooing the games but Royal Rumble and Raw is War were two of my favorite games ever growing up. I still play both pretty much monthly on my SNES Classic. Bill & Ted, Maximum Carnage, Aliens 3 and Punisher were all good LJN games too. Plus, True Lies is an absolute classic.

As long as LJN avoids 2 things I'll be happy.. 1. Dont short stock these new figures and Harley Race the market 2. Dont make video games (damnit) Dang, we should all totally make "Harley Race" the new term for "shortpacking" on here!! BRILLIANT Dude, I don't even want the credit for it. That's how much I love it and want it to be a thing lol

Mattel just recently released the Flashbacks Series 3, which had Stone Cold, Ricky Steamboat, Jake Robert's and Harley Race. Well, they didnt distribute nearly as many Race figures as the others and before long no one could find him. If your "lucky" now, he could be yours on Ebay for friggin $200. All this unfolded in the last month lol

I'm definitely interested, but after Cody Rhodes, Bucks, Jericho, Omega and the other select independent talent, who does WWE not own the rights over at this point? I'm not poo-pooing this, trust me. I just want this line to have permission to go to the moon with all legends past and present. Would be awesome! If this is an NJPW deal: no past WWE guys.

If this picks up steam, any shot WWE wants in and partners with LJN again down the road? Or does Mattel have exclusive rights?

Mattel is not exclusive, hence why Funko and Loyal Subjects can release WWE figures or Wicked Cool Toys can release rings and 31" figures.

I was thinking of the video games. Let's hope then.

Technically LJN/Acclaim only published the games, they didn't make them. Somehow I liked Royal Rumble better than Raw is War. While they weren't the best games there were worse games: WWF Wrestlemania published by Ocean comes to mind...

Yeah I'm not part of the "gamer" scene but I saw a ton of people (all without real profile pictures, if you get my drift) posting about how they hate LJN video games, lol. Must be a thing? (I loved Maximum Carnage as a kid!) I'm definitely interested, but after Cody Rhodes, Bucks, Jericho, Omega and the other select independent talent, who does WWE not own the rights over at this point? I'm not poo-pooing this, trust me. Bucks are free agents in January and this certainly seems like part of the next step for them (rumors/speculation is a new promotion). If it was strictly an NJPW thing we'd see homegrown guys like Tanahashi/Okada/Naito first. I am skeptical. These guys are marketing geniuses, but they are also all star social media manipulators. Is this an honest tease, or a bait and switch to get people talking? We'll know eventually I suppose. They're great with social media but calling them manipulators or a potential bait and switch isn't fair. Matt said in a reply tweet that he's got a signed contract and the prototype in his office. In the picture you can see part of the leg with tassels. No reason to think this is a rib.

Besides the few prominent njpw stars, I can’t imagine who else they’d pursue the rights to produce. Probably all the same names from the line by The Company Whose Name Can't Be Mentioned. Their ROH line just ended too so that's a possibility.

Nah, it's totally fair. I've seen the Bucks do their fair share of that "werkin the marks" stuff on social media. Only seeing this in the context of what I read in the original post it was a reasonable assumption. Having gone back and looked at Matt Jackson's twitter I'm less skeptical to the point that they clearly have something in the works. And it could be pretty cool. So...sorry, I guess. I'd imagine this is an Elite project of some sort, so you have to figure on Cody, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, etc being in the mix if anyone else.

I don’t know to what extend Ljn is still active. Do they hold any major licenses? What do they have on the shelves of any major retailers? Do they expect to sell these in hot topic and fye type stores because even stores that cater to fanboys will have trouble moving a hangman page bendie. Unless they successfully market these to people who collect any random cool nostalgic trinket. Then they might have a chance.

IF I was just going to wildly speculate (which I am), it's possible they just licensed the old LJN logo to produce retro style figures, or someone is reviving the brand. There hasn't been a "LJN Toys" as such since the early 90s. No matter what the deal I'd imagine these would be offered on the Bucks merch website, prowrestlingtees, and/or at live events. Fans of the Elite will buy pretty much anything these guys will sell. Keep these at like 2500 sets and they'll sell through easy. Of course, they usually think bigger than that so if it was a retail release I would not be surprised either. It's pretty easy to underestimate the reach and popularity of big non-WWE acts these days. It's a new era for making your name outside of conventional channels: youtube stars are bigger names than TV stars to kids today, for instance. I don't begrudge anyone any deals they can make for themselves, and if it gives people cool new figures to chase then all the better.

It also would make it hard to justify licensing the use of the ljn trademarks. I think it’s gotta be something bigger than that in the works, I’m just curious what the marketing scheme will be

LJN was founded in 1970 by Jack Friedman, the same man that would found THQ in 1990 and co-found Jakks Pacific with Stephen G. Berman in 1995. On May 3 2010, Jack Friedman passed away at the age of 70 of complications from a rare blood disorder. Apparently someone is restarting LJN (as a brand or sub brand?).
