I hope the packaging is a bit more detailed this time around too. They were quite plain compared to the Hasbros. Even if they just put OFFICIAL over the logo and World Wrestling Entertainment under it, it would be one step closer. The packaging on the MOTU WWE line was much more detailed.

Yes! I display my MOC hasbros with my MOC retros and it drives me nuts how they did the backs on the retros. It's so bad. And it got even worse when they came out with the mobile game. The Hasbro blows it away. I love all the figures they show and then the card bios and the action poses. So awesome

wish we could of seen a little update on the retros this week, but oh well. I feel like these are way down the totem pole when it comes to all the other lines.

100% agree -- but to be fair, these can't be ordered through RSC...

HUGE update on the Retros in the new November reveals video!! Starts at around the 21st minute - the black and white card backs along with the bio cards are back! And the cards are coloured with blue and red like the early half of the Hasbros! And the moves have fun names like the Hasbros had!
Also the pre-order date is Friday January 28th!!

Here are the updated pictures of the retros and packaging. The packaging is a nice upgrade but, I'm still not sold on the figures.

Mean Gene fills a huge gap. I’ll order the set to get him.

This is really cool. This was yet another thing they got wrong last time. I’m buying 2 sets. Maybe 3. Long live retros!

Are these readily available? So eveowho wants them can get them or will there be a limited number?
I want these, but I'm not willing to deal with a load of bs to get them.

You can buy them on Mattel Creations on January 28 -- I am really worried I won't be able to get them, and many others won't either....

I fully expect there to be a pretty quick sell-out on these - big time fear that so many of us will miss-out.
I have a feeling that Mattel will have had a difficult time judging the quantity of these - even if we look at the original line we can see the great variation in numbers produced: the seemingly endless run of series 3 contrasted with scarcity of the very next series with Ric Flair. Series 7 we know had an extra order from whichever US store had them which basically killed the line since most had already sourced that series and were waiting for 8 to come-out, which was difficult when 7 was still on the pegs. Then 8 was made in pretty big quantities, but then Mattel famously only filled like a quarter of the numbers ordered by the two UK online retailers of series 9 and 10 suggesting their numbers were far lower.
So where are they going to balance the quantity for series 11? Far lower than the in-store releases surely, but on the other hand Mattel Creations is international so the UK, Canada, Australia, etc., collectors will be ordering direct. Plus many of us will want to order multiple sets:
1. To open 2. To keep MOC 3. To keep MIB 4. For safety?/for customising/for reselling?/for OCD reasons against ordering odd numbers?/for luck?
They definitely won’t want to end-up with unsold stock, but hopefully they have factored that into their calculations.
Sgt Slaughter’s numbers might be a guide - of course that was a SDCC exclusive, which traditionally Mattel seem to approach as being fantastically cool collector pieces that they produce like 12 of for the benefit of eBayers or something.
Given the Hasbro market and the age of most of us collectors, I’m expecting these to be a big target for scalpers unfortunately but hopefully we can all be satisfied and the numbers sold support the next set.

I thought the point of the pre-order was to help inform production numbers??

I thought the point of the pre-order was to help inform production numbers?? I think that only applies to the made-to-order model of production, which Mattel has no interest/ability to implement, likely due to the massive amounts of lines and brands they are producing overall. Looking again at Sgt Slaughter, there we had a figure that sold-out in three minutes due to two pretty big collector bases (WWE and GI Joe), an unnecessary but cool random chase designed to tantalise collectors, as well as a recent history of quick SDCC sell-outs (Slim-Jim Macho and the first Mr T were sold-out in like an hour I believe) - but Mattel did not re-open Slaughter up again for all the other collectors who missed-out; the figures were already produced (as IIRC was confirmed in one of the pre-sale interviews) in the numbers they probably decided on after Mr T was sold, and Slaughter was shipped-out a couple of months later. I expect that the Retros set is already well into production (not seen this confirmed, just my own conclusion) so I expect the numbers of this set is fixed and, like Slaughter, will be final regardless of how quick they sell-out. Maybe the pre-order demand could affect the numbers produced on the next set (which is likely ready to enter production at least, given the year it usually takes to get from conception to release of figures) but otherwise I think Mattel will just be happy to hit their sell-out target and move on, leaving those who missed-out to battle it out on eBay at much higher prices than Mattel themselves made in the first place. That seems to be the model they've used in the past.

I think the this set of retros will sell out, with Mattel not having enough sets to meet demand. The only good thing from that is that Mattel would bump up numbers in the next set. Speaking of next series, any guesses on the next batch? I like the WM theme, but can’t believe they never included Hogan and Orndorff in this set.
I think we will see retros like Edge, Eddie Guerrero, and Steamboat sooner rather than later. If they continue with the WM theme, maybe a set with Andre, Hitman, Anvil, and John Studd from the battle royal at WM2.
