WWE Retro - General Discussion

Yeah, I wish they would show off more than just a few figures again. I hoped these would sell good enough that they would up the pace of releases to maybe 4 waves a year plus RSC exclusives. A ring would be great too, ideally a new color/theme, be it KOTR, Rumble, Summerslam, IYH etc. Ring should come with belts since they molded the 2 holders, but I don't care too much personally since I already own the Hasbro style belts from WFW.

I think another priority I left off my last wish list would be to get out guys that could have been in a theoretical series after the Orange cards, think people were throwing out that they may have been planned to be black cards, and probably would have been guys like Quebecers (which I know they can't do atm), Macho, Owen (again can't do), Taker, Lawler (taken care of now), Sparky Plugg (another I don't think they can do),Backlund andBulldog in shorts etc.

Some of those could probably be done.

No thanks on Ali. Probably happening but meh.

Hope we get to see the rest of the Richter Wave and the next ringside wave. I feel like that’s got to be DX… 97 HBK/Chyna/updated Trips and xpac (non-jumper) would be DOPE

Bobby and Sherri have got to happen. I will not shut up until we see the renders!!!

My guess is we'll get a similar number to last year's SDCC reveals:

-2 figures to complete the Hogan and Richter set (I'm guessing Orndorff and Ali);
-4 figures in the next Ringside Exclusive tag sets (some form of DX; probably the face run with the Outlaws so they can get Billy out in case of any issues with his deal);
-1 figure (maybe 2) to tease the second bundle of 2024 (someone in high demand, like Bobby Heenan, or a new Rick Rude, or a Jake in flame tights maybe? Sherri or Miss Elizabeth perhaps? Maybe the odd one out from the DX Ringside set, like if they don't include X-Pac or Chyna in that set then they could be the first in the bundle immediately following it?)

Of course the day will come when Mattel will again announce the end of the line, but the reveal of Hogan and Wendi means we're pretty safe for 2024 as that set is in January and Mattel tend to run lines across full years from what I can see, so a 2nd bundle in 2024 seems a lock, as does the second tag team bundle. Lets hope 2025 will be a good year for the Retros as well.

So, is it a bad sign that the Retro 3 set hasn't sold out yet? (or just proof that it wasn't a very good set?) 🤔

Probably not a danger sign on the face of it: the first two sets are sold-out and the two Ultimate Edition exclusives are still available so hopefully both lines have sold enough to justify future releases.

I would prefer it be sold-out now though, just to be safe.

I'd sign on the dotted line for all of that right now.  

Of all the WM1/Rock 'n Wrestling options I'd be the least bored by Orndorff and Captain Lou.  Orndorff is needed for the main event and Lou is a massive figure, though if it were entirely up to me I'd pass on including him for right now, I know I'll be getting his superstars figure and his inevitable elite figure, before ya know it I won't even wanna look at the guy anymore.  If I could have a dream WM1 non-wrestler gimme Howard Finkel all day.  I want Jesse, Heenan and Gorilla more, but they can fit lots of places.  Finding a way to get Fink with the old MSG drop-down mic (even if it had to say "WWE" on it) would be awesome.

As long as RSC stays with tag teams/factions I honestly can't come up with who other than DX it might be.  WWE seems to view these groups almost as the parallels they were at the time.  DX went into the HOF in 2019, NWO 2020.  Not saying that's why it will happen, but it just seems like those two groups are always following each other in some way.  There's lots of tag teams WWE could do, but they don't have a lot or they're incomplete.  (As far as we know) no Demolition, no LoD, no Dudleys, Edge but no Christian.  One alternative in the same family that would be really cool (to me) would be Evolution.  Idk if they're ready to get to RA-era yet, but I hope we get there at some point.

The Macho and Liz I would choose would be WM8 or thereabouts.  Lots of options to pair up in there that could more or less make sense, heel Jake, Mr. Perfect, Gorilla, Heenan, Sherri.  HBK could work though I'd rather something less like his Hasbros and more in the BCA era, I think even a Flair repaint in red with a more WWF-era head would be a solid choice.  Series 4 Flair was hard to find and commands one of the higher secondary prices, I think there would be a market for it.  It would also officially correct the horrid Hasbro he received at the time.

The main reveals will be during the Mattel panel on the Thursday of SDCC, which this year is July 20th. 

We’ll probably see some new figures the night before on the Wednesday (which is the SDCC preview night), but those would more likely to be lines other than Retros.

Ali would be kind of neat but I would rather have Mr. Wonderful!
