I'd also want a debut Farooq in gladiator outfit.

It’s just frustrating as tiny boutique companies have a better idea of what we collectors really want. The next retro set just isn’t it. (DX looks great tho) Time and again, Mattel has found ways to undermine themselves with this line. This is my biggest issue. Those companies have better sculpts and MUCH better character choices. The only drawback is that Mattel has way better prices. The peak of my fandom was during the Hasbro era, so I can easily be swayed to buy names like Men on a Mission, Max Moon, Bastion Booger, Todd Pettengill, and King Kong Bundy. But why on earth would I want a Hasbro style nWo, who not only wasn’t from that era, but wasn’t even from the same promotion? What absolutely kills me is that Mattel has the PERFECT pool of talent to make an absolutely flawless continuation of the WCW Galoob series, but they’ll never do it. We could have a Galoob style series right now with Cactus Jack, Vader and Harley Race, Rick Rude, solo Ron Simmons, Stunning Steve Austin, Paul E. Dangerously, Jake Roberts, Lord Steven Regal, Diamond Studd, Vinnie Vegas, British Bulldog, etc. if Mattel and WWE would only pull the trigger on it.

I would be all in on a continuation of the WCW galoob line - but I can’t help feeling that they would just end up doing NWO and later era wrestlers….and take 10 series to get to Vader or Cactus.

Probably an argument that their pool of talent for a Galoob style line and the ability to give us plenty of those that were never made is a fair bit bigger than their options for filling in the Hasbro line, which is why, as you say, they’re having to utilise the likes of DX/NWO which don’t really appeal to Hasbro enthusiasts as much as the likes of Zombie and even Chella/Epic who can fill in the missing talent we didn’t get back then.

Strange to see a negative nWo comment above. I wanted nWo Hasbro figs so bad, I painted my Series 1 Higan and Savage with acrylic paint 🥴 - I loved my hasbros and used whatever I could to keep my fed going. The bend-ems just never were good enough.

I don't mind the NWO stuff as much as DX or mid 80's. I guess everyone has different prorities so some stuff will please some and not others. But, the bread and butter should be the Hasbro period say 87/88 to build out a little before and say 95/96/97 afterwards. They've hit some good ones, completely ignored other guys they could have added in or done new versions of and alot of the ones they have been put out were poorly executed (Luger, Neidhart, Valentine and Vader come to mind right).
I'd be a little warmer to the DX set if they'd of at least done 97 DX and we at least got a decent Shawn out of it from that era.
Guys that they could/should have easily done:
Updated versions of Bret, Bulldog, Shawn, Rude, Macho King (long tights), Heel Jake, Ricky Steamboat (87/88 era), Warrior (the one Mattel made was bad) Razor, 123 Kid, white trunks Tito to name some.
They could have also done at least some other guys that they have/had access too over the years they've been doing the line: Bob Backlund, King Mabel, Farooq, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Ringmaster Austin, Rocky Maivia, debut Mankind and I'm sure theres a bunch more.
The "boutique" companies sure do have a better grasp on what collectors really want, even though IMO some choices are out there by some of the companies that have done quite a few modern indy guys or really niche versions of guys (Kevin Sullivan), I think G&G's despite some questionable business ethics has the best idea of what people want.

Has there been talk of doing another retro ring? I’m in need of one and hoping I don’t have to pay secondary prices

Things have looked bad for the line at seemingly every point during the run only to then a little while later hear Bill or someone else at Mattel speak supportively about the line, so who knows what their numbers actually look like, the margain might be very good on each figure meaning a relatively small number of sales might be all that’s needed. I think we definitely have support within Mattel from those who were passionate about the Hasbros to have gotten the Retros this far. But we should definitely be grateful for whatever we get though; if 10 is the end at least we’ve got Diesel. I'm still new to collecting this line. Is there no new figured announced for next year? It seems the boxsets are still selling on ringside.

The Bearer/UT/Lawler/Vader wave is the 15th overall; 4th since moving to Mattel Creations; the nWo wave is the 14th, and is RSC. Even though wave 11 (Mean Gene/Piper/etc) was Mattel Creations exclusive, RSC bought a slew of them and started selling them well after MC was sold out. The next announced waves are DX (RSC) and WM1 set from MC, dates TBD.

Yeah I knew about the boxsets on ringside Just got worried that something changed since sdcc. It seems mattel is still gung-ho on this line and wants to continue it. There is no reason not to since the indy companies are selling through their stock like its water. Obviously the demand is there. The fact that they are not in retail and still selling out is proof enough

The Hogan/Ali/Richter/Studd set should probably be released in January (based on previous years), the DX set maybe in May, and then the next Mattel Creations bundle in August - we don't anything about that bundle yet, WrestleMania will likely be when we hear about it. The line could end of course any time, but we should at least get that second Mattel Creations bundle in 2024.

What’s crazy is that we are nearing the same amount of Mattel Retros as there were the original Hasbros. If things continue, we may surpass that in 2025.

I am worried the line will stop soon, too. The Lawler wave was by far the best -- if it didn't sell enough to make the line to continue past the Hogan/Mr. T wave, there's nothing we can do. If Lawler did sell well, and Hogan/T, doesn't, I bet Mattel will adjust and do lines similar to the ones that are popular.
I don't have expectations, but hope for the best.

For the most part I don't think it would bother me if it ended, the quality figures have been few and far between IMO. The other companies are doing far better work in both sculpts and picking the right time periods/rosters to go after. Only real issue is the handful of guys that will probably never come out of WWE exclusivity, like HBK, Triple H, not sure who else, other guys seem to come in and out of contract like Macho. Is Bret also exclusive to WWE?

As a boy I always wanted Sensational Sherri and Miss Elizabeth figures in this retro style. Hopefully Mattel will make it happen some day.
