I still think they should just drop a few incredibly overpriced four packs online geared entirely toward collectors. Do them as basically ways of filling holes in the Hasbro set and make them semi era specific. People would gladly pay 60 or so for these and once they finished with them, we could all just sleep easily and be at peace at last. Long Pants Macho King Bad News Brown Hercules Paul Roma Dino Bravo (probably impossible, but whatever) Kato Tanaka Tugboat Barbarian Haku White Tito Santana Anvil USA Lex Jeff Jarrett Mo Mabel That’s an interesting idea - most of us here are already paying a premium for the figures from online retailers so maybe a balance could be found to satisfy both us and Mattel, but obviously we don’t have the numbers to see how the line has sold online vs. in the wild; Mattel clearly prefer having Walmart and Target involved despite all the problems those retailers have caused, and the waves that have made it to the pegs have sold early-on until the overstocking issues have hit with series 3 and 7. Do you envision a boxset of four guys, or four guys on single cards like we’ve had recently?

I'd love to see all the hasbro gaps filled plus a few new versions of hasbro and attitude era wwf and wcw guys and a retro of The Fiend would be great.

One of my local Target's got in series 8 and Sheik already sold through. $9.99 price point makes a big difference as well. Forget the stands Mattel, just give us accessories if they are going to cost over $10 next round.

Word on Twitter that series 8 has appeared at Marshalls for $4.99 Thanks for the heads up-hopefully 9 and 10 follow suit and show up at Five Below soon too. As far as TJ Maxx, I stopped in today, didn't see anything there yet.

Just wondering, anyone that has a Walmart that's actually been reset and stocked. Do they still have pegs designated for retros? Or are they done with them again once they get rid of remaining S7 stock?
And how are Target's looking around the country? Have the stores not loaded w/ S3 or S7 been getting restocked, or are the pegs just empty? The store by me hasn't had a single retro in over 2 months, even though they have 2 pegs for them.

Out of both my Targets in PA suburbs, one of them stocked Series 7 only a few times-same for Series 8, but the pegs are still empty now last I checked on Friday....The other has been better and steadily restocking Series 8 now. So looking up at least. Walmart- don't let the door hit them in the a** on the way out as far as I'm concerned. I'm done with them.

Yeah, at least Target keeps some product on the pegs, be it always the same stuff, but that's really down to Mattel's choices for what they think will sell and not Target's fault. Done with Walmart too, unless there's something I must have that's exclusive to them, I'd much rather pay a couple bucks extra on ringside then deal with Walmart. Trash stores, trash clientele and constantly empty pegs anyway. And store resets should be no excuse for having NOTHING on the shelves for weeks on end. Target shows me that aisles can be rearranged w/out emptying anything out. You can't sell product if it's not on the floor. Damn Mattel though lol. Even though retros are done at least for now, I now find myself buying up basics and elites for heads and accessories for custom retros. Just wish there were a wider range of retro bodies available instead of only a few basic kinds.

I stopped in at a walmart today and there was no tag for Retros. Granted, I haven't seen a retro figure there in the last 12 months, but there was at least a tag previously. I noticed they started their reset almost 2 weeks ago, so I was expecting to see something positive. All I saw was 1 S98 Warrior and an empty S98 Riot box that someone stole. Unbelievable.

I’d love to see Retros return but have 4 figures per year, with easy available and of legends, managers and women. Looking back there was too much of the same.

I would love to see any future series to consist of 7 figs - 6 wrestlers (2 Attitude/current, 2 legends, 2 women) and a manager like Bearer/Heyman/Heenan/Sherri/Elizabeth/Cornette etc
that would be perfect in my view - the Retro line is not aimed at current kids, so why not focus the line on the adult collector, but encompass a wider variety of the roster options per series?
you could easily have 3 lines in 2021 consisting of a good mix of Alexa/Ronda/Charlotte/Becky/Sasha/Bayley/Trish/Lita, Lawler/Jarrett/Pillman/Vader/Bundy/Arn Anderson/Harley Race, and then have guys like Booker T/Edge/JBL/Guerrero/Mysterio/Batista, and each set gets one of the managers above
I think that format would satisfy the collectors and fans more than the previous format would

I don't understand this "it's not aimed at current kids" Out of 44 figures 10 (22%) are not active current roster or had a match in the last couple of years Overwhelmingly (78%) the line features current talent And I'm including people like foley in the 10 legends even though he still makes appearances and wasn't that long ago relatively speaking he was GM

IT would be cool if maybe Ringside had a retro exclusive per year or maybe 2 or 3. Maybe even a retro 2 pack with some tag teams in it would be awesome RSC exclusive.

As long as Mattel doesn't massively overproduce a series. A couple cases of figs will move much quicker on the pegs if there are 8 different guys to collect instead of just 4. Ringside exclusive would be fine too, and honestly, aren't we moving more towards online over these piss poor retailers anyway? But, if the amount of guys being made is much lower per year, they better make it count and make the right character/attire choices. And keep it focused mainly on collectors, but toss in a couple of the modern big stars just to keep building the rosters for the kids (usually of parents that are Hasbro fans) that are actually playing with them.

While I feel the exact same way, I just don't think Mattel gets it. Idk why and I dont mean that as an insult, but the way they handled the Retros was a mess from series 3 to finish. And sadly, if they ever bring them back at all, I think it's going to be the same old 1 legend in every series. Possibly 2 or 3 if it's an 8 figure series. But I dont think they can help themselves from churning out 90% current stars over and over and over again. Unfortunately for us, they care most about selling them, not about the collectors. Kids today outnumber us collectors by millions. You're also right about RSC. They like to make figures that collectors buy and have been very successful with it in the past (and present). Frankly I'm pretty shocked that they never made a Retro Exclusive. All in all, I believe there's a slight chance they will eventually give them one more try. I just really hope they make it work next time around. Otherwise maybe they should pass the torch on to RSC like they did with the NXT Elite Exclusive.

I had a dream last night I found some new retros at a store. They were clearanced for $7.49. There were 2 Ultimate Warrior boxes on the shelf that the figure had been stolen. What was interesting about it was it was a blind box Warrior, so the attire could be different. They also had Sable and Billy Gunn.

It'd take Mattel maybe 6 months to crank out an exclusive. They have plenty of body molds to use and dozens of characters to choose from. It could already be an existing figure repainted on a new backer card. Hmm, like Roman Reigns or John Cena or Undertaker. Many colorful attires to choose from, especially Cena.
I bet they'd sell the same amount of this figure as they would any of their Elite exclusives, if not more. Oh well, one can hope right ?

Interesting discussion; though I’m amazed anyone is willing to accept so few figures per year! A few a year is better than none I accept, but still lets have some ambition during this time of disappointment. It will be interesting to see what Mattel do if (or WHEN - in Action Figure Attack we trust ) the line returns - they will have the numbers to show how the current stars have sold vs. the legends, how well the figures that have turned-up at Walmart and Target have sold vs. Ringside, how much it costs Mattel to run the line compared to the sales the online-only (basically) series have generated, and Mattel will have an idea of the willingness of Ringside and international online retailers to support the line if they did make it an online exclusive line (Toys & Masks here in the UK tweeted their support for the line quickly after the situation was revealed at SDCC, and Wrestling Shop seems to get asked about Retros a hell of a lot on Twitter in general). newgenandy is clearly right I think about the line having been at least partly aimed at today’s kids as well as us fat, basement-dwelling losers pushing 40, but Mattel might use this down-time to assess how successful that strategy has been in terms of their sales data; especially after the introduction of the Mayhem app and the stands which raised the price for a few series and the age-rating on the figures - did that hurt the sale of current guys because parents were less likely to buy toys for kids with such a higher age-rating, or the higher price that came with it? Or did the sales do as well at the higher price across the range? How do the sales figures for current guys look for the series that were separated by the long delays - can it be seen in the numbers that those delays hurt the momentum of the sales of current guys more than legends? Or did the legends just sell in bigger quantities than the current guys anyway, indicating that the focus going forward should be on us fat, old losers rather than kids? Might that make going online only and cutting-out the difficulties of dealing with Walmart and Target possible? If the intention is to pick-up where they left-off, doing the same things again then... well, third time lucky I guess? I’m almost as interested in seeing a relaunch by Mattel for those details as I am excited by seeing new figures.
