Monsoon will end up in the RetroFest line for $24.99 after Bill see's all the demand ...
I just get so pissed off when it's almost ALWAYS Legends that get "lost in the shuffle" or flat out cancelled.
Finding a spot for someone like Gorilla Monsoon shouldn't be THAT hard of a task ...

It sucks, but there’s a lot more that goes into it than just throwing figures in a series. As he said once before..each line is planned almost a year in advance and wwe make suggestions. Packaging also becomes an issue.

Packaging also becomes an issue. Heenan is probably the biggest issue, since he has the cloth jacket. I'm guessing the low deco cost for the HHH/Goldberg pack freed up budget space for Heenan. Besides, half the board would have been complaining in October when half the Walmarts didn't get the Survivor Series shipper and scalpers were clearing out all the Heenan/Gorilla packs...

Between Mattel falling apart and WWE crumbling, this is the end of the line. I don't see Hasbro stepping in to save the day. Just look at the Elite Flashbacks series 3. Despite so many claiming stores would be flooded with them, that never happened. Jake is now going for $80 on eBay, and Harley for over $375! Gorilla Monsoon is a classic Mattel fiasco - a long overdue, highly popular who was staged for release way to late in the game, and now may never see the light of day. Just like Hollywood Hogan. SDCC should be interesting...

Overall collectors should buy what they like at whatever price they want. I don't need a Dunne, Sherri or Race, so retail would be too much to pay. If I saw them at retail, I'd trade/sell them, not going to lie about that.
Right now Retros are my weakness. Back to point, would love to have gotten a Gorilla figure, may get one through Mattel some day but it is frustrating seeing it and wondering if it will ever see light of day.

Seeing as how its the only exclusive line left, this would be the likely spot for this figure however we don't know if this line will continue- it might be next on the chopping block?! Iron Sheik & Mr. Pefect are the next 2 figures slated for this line but are nowhere to be seen, I would have thought Sheik would have been released by now yet there has been no word on either figure?! Mattel has been putting legends in their exclusives lines the past few years but now those lines have all been cancelled which is why I think legends releases are pretty much done with the exception of the big names who will continue to get released because they sell.
Great assessment of the situation- its spot on IMO. I think this line has run its course, they have done a great job releasing a crap ton of figures in the past 9 years including some less popular, obscure characters from the past. It would be nice if they could squeeze out releases of some of the mid-carders that many of us want but with the cancellation of the store exclusive lines I don't see it happening. They don't seem to be inclined to include legend releases in the main line like they used to so that leaves no conceivable way to get these figures out except for an Amazon or RSC exclusive but I don't see either been interested in niche figures that won't sell very well.

Mattel is failing according to a jaded dude who got his offer to purchase the company shot down. Which in turn, Got gassed up on here by paranoid posters. Figures get canceled or rescheduled all the time and probably more often than we are aware of. Walmart not wanting the survivor series line does not speak for Mattel’s success or their wwe line. They may not want the specific figures or are completely requesting a different set of exclusives. It’s also possible that Walmart May be restructuring how they sell toys and the amount of exclusives they throw money at. Why is it that there is only a few logical posters on here?

I don't know how well or poorly Mattel are doing financially - but things like not having a Gorilla Monsoon figure after NINE YEARS of having the licence (with all its' various lines, exclusives and sub lines) is baffling. There have been plenty of opportunities to release him previously... just look at those last few BAF series: we can get Howard Finkel, JJ Dillon and (the requested-by-no-one) Commissioner Shawn Michaels - but not Gorilla freaking Monsoon!?

There's a chance Monsoon WAS supposed to be a BAF. The original Flashback placeholder lineups had 16 figures that fit pretty nicely into groupings for 80's, WCW, Attitude Era, and New Gen era. Obviously we got the first two. Commissioner Michaels was moved to the Elite FB3 line when the 3rd wave of the basics got cancelled, and would have been the BAF for the Attitude Era set. It's not crazy to think that Monsoon could have been planned as a BAF for the New Gen set, since he was commissioner during that era and his look never really changed all that much.

Tell me about it. What about Chainsaw Charlie? Or some Kama variations since Charles Wright is in good standing? They could redeem themselves with Hollywood Hogan, Owen Hart, Gorilla Monsoon, Jerry Brisco/Stooges, Al Snow, Ahmed Johnson, Greg Valentine, Terry Taylor, etc. Also that Diesel Retro, who should have been Series 1, had horrible likeness. It really reminds me of the end of Jakks, where the line lost all excitement and fell apart. Between Mattel falling apart and WWE crumbling, this is the end of the line. You do realize this is at least the ninth legends line that Mattel has cancelled? (Legends, Then Now Forever, Entrance Greats, Defining Moments, Flashback Basic, Flashback Elite, Hall of Fame, Hall of Champions, Attitude Era, etc.). Don't forget brick/mortar retail, which composes most of Mattel's business, is also falling apart. You speak of logic but you ignore it.

You can’t base that off of what some jaded dude said and how the wwe line is doing. We don’t know the details of any of these deals, except that stores pay to have exclusives...which there still may be a replacement for this series. You all jump to these conclusions from threads like these and take it as gospel. How many exclusives series have been canceled at Walmart, just to be replaced ? Whenever a figure is postponed, this board jumps right to end times mode.

When was Attitude Era cancelled? Think that’s the assumption due to the lack of reveals over the last few conventions. Angle has been listed on Amazon for a while but has yet to be shown.

It’s looking like Monsoon’s jacket size has been corrected. Hopefully we’ll see this figure placed somewhere.
