Nobody is going to bring up how in poor taste it was to have Matt Hardy “drowned” and show his body floating lifeless in the pool after they opened the show with RIP SHAD...?
No?
But WWE was wrong for the hanging segment in the gym with Orton/Edge?
Otherwise, it was a decent show, I dug the ladder match even though there was a tremendous number of slip ups.
Gave me something to do on a Saturday night for 4 hours I guess...

At the least just cut the dead man's float...I thought it was stupid anyway that they were actually trying to commit murder and drown him, but I mean, with all the craziness going on anyway you just roll with it and laugh I guess. 🥴 lol

I didn't know they filled the Jax pool with waters from the LAKE OF REINCARNATION!

Terrible edit job on that double powerbomb on Omega. Something happened they didn't want us to see. Looked like Santana's table flipped and he fell Yeah. It looked like he was about to fall as as soon as they cut it away as fast as they could.

The hanging bit had to do with a legend in Benoit. You might be the only person on the planet who thought of Shad during the Hardy bit.
I liked the PPV. AEW needs to decide if it wants to be WWE or ROH though. I don't think they can be a hybrid.

I've read quite a few comments about the pool spot, so it definitely rubbed a fair amount of people the wrong way. Personally I didn't really complain about either spot, nor did either spot make me think of Benoit or Shad.
I can see the counter argument for this one being a) the lake of reincarnation is not the same as a drowning spot, and b) they intentionally showed Matt being a ok under water multiple times.
Again neither spot really registered with me nor did they bother me after I read others complaints either (I'm not trying to diminish those complaints, just that I don't share that viewpoint).

9 year olds don't pay for PPVs though. I don't know what audience are they targeting? A casual audience who doesn’t enjoy wrestling Which is the exact opposite of what they advertise themselves to be.

I assure you I most certainly am not the “only person on the planet” who though of Shad, and also what does Benoits status as “legend” have to do with it? If it’s not okay for one company to do it, it shouldn’t be okay for another to. Creating a false equivalency to deflect is AEWFANBOI 101, so what should I have expected?

I liked the Stadium Stampede more than the boneyard match. Really!

This was a bad show, I just hope people are willing to admit it as a whole. Criticism is good and a group like AEW needs to hear both the good and bad. They have had very few huge misses like this show. Why do you think it was bad? A wrestler getting a "flag for excessive celebrating" in the middle of a match would be one of the reasons. The match may have a football theme, but suddenly adding football rules to the match is completely nonsensical. It turned into an attempt at a comedy sketch. I could have not watched the PPV and watched a Modern Family marathon for free. I could have watched some Sebastian Maniscalco on Netflix. If I was looking for a COMEDY I wouldn't have gotten it for 50 bucks from a wrestling company. I bought that PPV because I was expecting a stadium style hardcore match by a bunch of guys who could deliver. Needless to say that's not what I got, and the rest of the PPV certainly didn't make up for it.

I know it's not for everyone, but overall the show has gotten tremendously positive feedback. I'm not the only person that's said it was their favorite show ever. (Which I also said after Revolution). I know for most that's a bit excessive but that's ok. Overall it's gotten really positive reviews, which I think are well deserved.
People love to crap on Meltzer/Alvarez but I really enjoy them. Dave said it well. Wrestling is in a different state right now than 3 months ago. They got dealt a crap hand and made it into a much better one.

I certainly won’t argue that there wasn’t some poor things on the show. The ladder match didn’t seem to click at all, although there were definitely some good spots in there. A few bitches/slips. Kinda felt that way with the pre-show match too. Didn’t understand the Dustin/Spears thing, I thought it would be a legit match. For me the last two matches saved the night from being overall meh. I was into Mox/Brodie a little more than I thought I would be, and I thought the stampede was a blast so the night ended on a very positive note for me. It had an Attitude Era main event feel to it. Having 2 guys brawl wildly all over the place. The ref puts away the whistle and lets them do whatever they want.

That was MOTN. 100% agree. The upside down slap from Perry was awesome. Even while doing a handstand MJF sells it perfectly.

Was listening to the post show press conference. Tony revealed that Brian Cage will get his shot at fyter fest. What was fun is it was the first question and it came from little AJ (reporter kid) who got the first question. Was a cute moment, and broke the news that fyter fest is back and Cage gets his shot there

I'm not talking about promotions. I'm talking about a true legend versus a guy who was in an overly racist program ages ago. It's a shame people die, but before his death no one even thought about him. People talk about Benoit to this day.

I’m not turning this into a Benoit thread... but people definitely don’t talk about it him “being a legend”... you DO know the circumstances around his death don’t you? I’m sure it’ll bring his wife solace knowing that nobody talked about him last week so it’s totally cool that AEW pulled that tasteless BS. You sound like a real stand up fella...

Fascinating that you say no one knows who he he is when he was in the top wrestling company in the world for close to a decade in a thread about a show that consistently gets under 750k viewers a week.
