Got around to watching the Stadium Stampede match today, watched the rest of the show live. Not much did it for me except a few spots in the aforementioned Stampede Match and Lance Archer chokeslamming that guy in perfect sync with his theme. Overall a pretty decent show from what I thought, nothing that really makes me want to come back for more.

I loved the Stadium Stampede match. Mox and Brodie and MJF/Jungle Boy was also great. I wish AEW had a better model for their shows than paying $50 for a PPV/being required to have cable in 2020 to watch their main show... but when I’m able to watch the product I always come away entertained, which isn’t something I can say for other companies

Cable isn't required to watch the PPVs. There's B/R Live. And Fite TV I think? I don't remember if that's just international or if US can purchase on there.

I'm not talking about promotions. I'm talking about a true legend versus a guy who was in an overly racist program ages ago. It's a shame people die, but before his death no one even thought about him. People talk about Benoit to this day. I’m not turning this into a Benoit thread... but people definitely don’t talk about it him “being a legend”... you DO know the circumstances around his death don’t you? I’m sure it’ll bring his wife solace knowing that nobody talked about him last week so it’s totally cool that AEW pulled that tasteless BS. You sound like a real stand up fella... He is considered one of the best of all time ... like Pete Rose. His horrible actions do not change that. Comparing Shad to Benoit is like comparing a sock with a hole in the toe to a pair of original Air Jordans. Had they not talked about him (Taz) or did the graphic would you have still said anything?

Fascinating that you say no one knows who he he is when he was in the top wrestling company in the world for close to a decade in a thread about a show that consistently gets under 750k viewers a week. Just because he was in the WWE doesn't mean a thing. He was in a horribly racist program, and other than being put with Cena would have and did fizzle out. And to expect a brand new promotion to even begin to compare to a company that has been around for 40 years is sort of silly. And ... ratings? What is this, 1998?

B/r live for USA/Canada, fite tv for basically everywhere except the USA. (Though I can't do the fite pass for dynamite in Canada because it's on tsn)

You’re right, there’s no comparison, Shad Gaspard died saving his son. Chris Benoit murdered his. Because you liked how he flippy dipped in pro wrestling doesn’t change that. You want to prop up a despicable child murderer and disparage the guy who died trying to save a life because he didn’t get a big gold belt in a fake sport, be my absolute guest. You’re a gem. I’m out.

And to expect a brand new promotion to even begin to compare to a company that has been around for 40 years is sort of silly. And ... ratings? What is this, 1998? Your takes are truly terrible. Cryme Tyme was a consistent player on TV week in and week out for four years other than the six months they were released for behavioral problems, which is also why they never did get the belts, but they had a ton of merch, kids loved them, they feuded with every big tag team at the time, had a summer partnership with Cena. Just because Shad didn’t become a main event star doesn’t mean they didn’t have their place in history. The love and support of both fans and wrestlers show that people loved Cryme Tyme. They should not have done a drowning angle the same week the guy died from drowning, they shouldn’t. The level in which is bothered people is up to them, but it was probably a bad idea. Also hot take, Benoit is only as beloved as he is because of the keyboard warriors who like to be a rebel and celebrate him because WWE won’t. If he was still a live he wouldn’t d still be considered an all time great technician but would be in the conversation for one of the best of all time cause he simply wasn’t up to the level of the Bret Hart’s, Ric Flairs, Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero’s of the world. Jesus the people in these forums who want to tell someone how people talk about a guy after he died because of his place on the card are truly terrible takes.

I just fail to see how the current argument matters to the topic. Let's move on instead.

AEW didn’t make that price point, if anything that’s the lowest they could get it.

I’m not blaming them for the price point, I just wish they had access to streaming services outside of the PPVs (which, again, aren’t reasonably priced for 2020, again not blaming them though). Maybe TNT will eventually sign a deal with one that doesn’t require a cable subscription (I know they have their own, but it’s not stand alone)

It’s not perfect, but it’ll work. I use Hulu to watch it live, but that’s $50 a month.

Never watched an AEW show but I watched this live out of boredom on Saturday night and found the main event hilarious and entertaining. Mike Tyson seemed off his head too lol

Had they announced that the main event was going to be a cinematic match instead of a wrestling match I wouldn't have bought the PPV. I have zero interest in that style. It doesn't matter how much or who I gave my money to, it's why I gave it to them. AEW sells themselves on being different from WWE, and when I hand out money to watch it, it's a direct WWE ripoff. Not impressed.

I know it was during the pandemic and that hurt it, but DoN 2020 burned me and my $50.

I am assuming fyter fest will be free again like last year, so there will at least be a ppv style event between to create some clarity in either direction as far as that decision goes.

I’m assuming it’ll be a special edition of Dynamite. We’ll find out tomorrow!

Jim Cornette did a review of this show today. He hated the main event so much that he says he doesn’t want to watch anymore AEW and is actually mad at people he likes- JR, Schiavone, Matt Hardy, and Jericho. He’s mad at the announcers for dignifying the match and the wrestlers for being a part of it. As someone who listens to his podcast I hope he doesn’t do reviews of Dynamite anymore. Why watch something you hate? The reviews were entertaining at first, but it’s getting tiresome basically listening to him saying every week the shows suck. AEW can do no right to him.

He really buried himself deep lately with his comments on Becky getting pregnant. Tony Khan took some subtle shots at Cornette in his postgame conference, including when he was answering Meltzer question, so I think it's fair to say Tony is not going to be losing any sleep over Cornette no longer watching his product.
