Kinda feel weird about this. It’s good for AEW in the sense that he’s likely got great advice for guys backstage. But, is anyone really looking for Big Show at this point? It also doesn’t help the feeling of AEW sometimes being yet another wannabe WCW.

The press release says that he will return to the ring. I think there could be some really cool matchups and interactions. And at his size, I think he could still put up some really solid matches in a limited role. But I'm actually really excited to see what else he brings to the table. I know he had been pretty interested at one point at branching into acting and I remember some of his guest spots being really funny yeeeears ago. It seemed like WWE was never crazy about talent branching out unless it was in WWE-owned media like Total Divas or their movies. So I'm really curious to see if his personality can shine without being over produced and directed. I'd love for Team Taz to talk trash about him until he reaches a breaking point and gets a trios match against them. That said, I hope that's down the road. I don't need him showing up to wrestle consistently. Absolutely. He needs to be an attraction match, much like Sting. I think Tony understands that, though it's admittedly a tough line to walk when these guys are also probably solid ratings draws. It's also worth talking about the marketing value here. Big Show figures always seemed to sell well, and I'd imagine he will move some tshirts, etc.

I'm so excited for the elevation show on Mondays. Signing wight is a big deal, but I'm far more excited about the extra show lol.

I'm going to try and be optimistic but I don't see the value in Paul Wight at this point. hopefully they can use him correctly.

That’s a solid idea AND there's still the extra hour on TNT that hasn't been announced. For the people who love everything AEW, they're gonna be getting a lot of content.

I'm going to try and be optimistic but I don't see the value in Paul Wight at this point. hopefully they can use him correctly. I've enjoyed listening to him on podcasts, so I'm interested to hear him on commentary. I think he's a solid signing, but it isn't a business defining thing. I hope he's happy and makes lots of money.

Another scenario where fans are a tad weary but moreso cautiously optimistic, and the trolls make hay for themselves.
I'll give it a shot. Wight is a heckuva attraction, a knowledgeable presence, and just a good person. He can talk, but not certain about his commentary skills. The long-term build with Shaq looks to be finally getting a payoff. Just a shame his New York HOF induction will be put off now, was really looking forward to his speech.

All of that crying big man stuff was so awful

For years: The Big Show sucks!!!! Now: Paul White is the greatest ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's freaking 49 years old. Way to keep it young AEW. LOL

All of that crying big man stuff was so awful That's the thing - I never got the impression that he was one of "Vince's guys" even though he was featured for almost two decades. So I don't think he had nearly as much sway over his character as some of the other top guys who had Vince's ear. I'm really interested to see what could be possible if he has some creative freedom to develop his own character and not deal with face/heel flip flopping. Obviously he's not someone you feature at this stage. But I think today people forget that historically most workers peak in their late 30's/early 40's, and wrestling history is full of some significant draws who were working into their late 40's and early 50's at a high level. Not saying that's possible with a guy who has been carrying that kind of size his whole life. But he's going to do exactly what he was signed to do - bring eyeballs to the product.

Could be a cool commentator though, and at the very least it'll probably draw up some interest

I have no opinion on this one way or another other than appreciation of the pure randomness of it. This is hilarious. Hopefully Kane next! Unironically I'd be down for him making sporadic appearances as an on-screen authority figure if he does it as a character who also happens to be a mayor of a small town.

This is huge for AEW in more ways than one. This is the most relevant Show has been in at least ten years. In WWE he was the ‘please retire’ guy who has been around waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Everyone figured he’d show up periodically to KO a low-card heel or screw a baby face and disappear. He was of no real value to WWE. For AEW he’s not really a current superstar. He’s not even just another bonified legend. He was a WWE Lifer like Cena, Taker, Kane, Orton, HBK, etc..., so this is creating some buzz, which will equate to eyes on the product. Mox and Jericho were still the biggest signings, but Show is right below. This is another guy who legitimizes AEW the way that Matt Hardy (or even Jeff if he eventually follows), or pretty much any guy who has been around the block a few times (Angle, Booker, Christian, Nash, etc) could not. The biggest value is the implication of Show as a WWE Lifer could potentially rock the boat for some of the other lifers if they get dissatisfied. Show will also make a great commentator, as he very much has the gift of gab. In ring I’m not really expecting a ton since he’s nearly 50, but it doesn’t matter. He’s an attraction, and should be used as such.

Never really was a Big Show guy. This is one feels super strange to me. I think he’s a super valuable guy to have helping out backstage and whatnot, but I don’t have any desire to see him in the ring. I hope his programs/matches are pretty minimal.
