just popping in to deliver another perspective:
i also collect star wars black series figures. lately, Hasbro has been dropping wal mart exclusives like crazy and guess what----its the exact same thing in that world of figures:
figure info gets leaked-we know when its dropping, we know where its dropping. we set our notifications, wait till the day/ hour/ minute of and then............sold out.
im completely ignorant to any tactic that could be used to acheive this, but there is something 110% NOT RIGHT about online pre-orders in 2021. by all accounts, both manufacturers and suppliers should not be "selling out" of ANYTHING within mere MINUTES. i could understand 'hey we sold out 250,000 figures within an hour(s).' i cannot wrap my head around anything selling out "in under 5 minutes".
for the most part im able to get to the page of an item within the first 10 minutes of it being live and ive had ZERO luck with any wwe preorders this time around.
im only discouraged in the fact that now i have to buy these items from someone else at a markup; as a collector there is a good feeling deep down inside when you can purchase directly from manufacturer--for the intended price. also, i really dont enjoy this hectic feeling hanging over my head concerning pre-orders; it should be a happy and exciting day "im gonna pre-order a bunch of new stuff" INSTEAD OF "i hope it isnt sold out by the time i refesh my page."

I love this forum. I love Mattel's Elite scale sized figures I love how Steve takes the time to interact with us and answers questions. I have a massive collection and have been a loyal customer from the beginning of Mattel WWE and as far back as the original LJN. But I am sadly getting over it. I was so excited to see the reveals yesterday and saw the cool concept of Movie themed figures. I said to myself I want that Piper, Rock and Andre The Giant. Today, literally less than 24 hours of the reveal .. the preorder is up at Walmart and Piper is already gone. What the heck!! If you are like me ... I want ALL of you to have a shot at it. I get no satisfaction that I got it and you didn't. But how in 2021 with technology can we not all get a crack at it? I get an email that Hulk Hogan is on preorder at Amazon. As soon as I got the e-mail I followed the link and he was no longer available. How can that be? On the last reveal I thought .. I want that Brutus the Barber Beefcake. For awhile I saw the figure on the site and requested them to send me when he was available to buy ... now his figure is no longer there and people are selling them on Ebay for an astronomical price. Kama .. I really paid attention to Walmart ... never saw it ... gone. Got an email Sgt. Slaughter was available at WWE Shop. Went there right away. GONE@ So I see these reveals and if I did like something .... I am almost saying .. what's the point? Then I see people getting excited about Rey Mysterio's little boy who was featured for a day or the Goon .... which was around for a few months at best and wonder how we don't have Ivan Koloff, Or Pedro Morales, Putski, Brody, The Butcher Stan Hansen, Hercules, Patera and so many others who were not only Main eventers but in the Hall of Fame. Maybe I am alone here ... and boy do I feel alone ... but for those talking about rebuilding their collection ... get ready because this customer is sadly getting over it. If I can encourage you to do one thing…don’t sell off your collection. When you collect something like this, and you genuinely lose interest in it, believe me when I tell you, your interest will come back and you’ll wish you hadn’t sold them. Especially wrestlers because they’ll be 10x the price and a lot of the ones you sell you’ll never get back. I am just trying to help man, throw everything in storage, stash it away for another time. Don’t do anything rash haha. Things will turn around, this online shortage crap is happening across the board in every toy line. |

I just got back into collecting the last year. I was able to get Slaughter and Hollywood piper. I’ve received every target preorder and even received 2 chases from target. I have seen Kama in 2 different Walmart’s in the last week. As a new collector when I read these posts I just don’t understand

Slimjim23 ... so happy for you that you just got in and were able to nab those figures. LOVE IT! When I got Mr. T last year ... I was very grateful and yet felt bad for many who didn't get it. As a new collector if you don't understand compassion for those who have been buying figures since the 80's in stores ... to now where technology allows us to all get a shot at them in theory on-line ... and so many miss out - because the one hour they were available some of us might have been working, or dealing with our kids and family ... then you will know the decades we have been doing this because we love it and then read this thread and you will start to see that fortunately I am not alone with this frustration and then perhaps you will compassionately understand.

Man, I wish Walmart Canada actually carried Walmart exclusives on their site. Really didn't expect Piper to be the quick sell out of that set. I know exactly how you are feeling. We don't even get Ultimates anymore here and every other series is hit or miss if it'll even hit retail at all. |

I really only collect Golden Era/Rock-N-Wrestling Era figures with heavy focus on the Wrestlemania 3 roster. They made Survivor Series Hogan and tuxedoed Vince that’s about it. Not even a must have for me. May not even purchase one figure this year. I already have Hogan, McMahon and Jimmy Hart. I was looking for Koko or Hercules. Dynamite. Slick. Someone. Oh well. None for me, thanks. Not this year.

I don’t even bother preordering when I see something is a WalMart exclusive. Between WWE, DC, SW and ML I have placed at least 20 preorders over the years and only twice did my orders actually ship. Hell I still have DOD Series 1 Orton & Undertaker which I preordered day one sitting in my order history saying “Delayed Check back for an update” I am sure in a few months they send me a cancellation email just like they did with the first wave of McFarlane DC, Hasbro Mandalorian figures , ML Worthy Captain America just to list a few.

I'm glad natureboyfauser and banditman were able to get Kama. I really hope the trend continues for later collector's editions, I really want that Mustafa. Another thing I'm VERY sick and tired of is the use of wrong parts, especially when even custom fodder is so overpriced these days. I'm about to order another Stunning Steve just to fix Valentine's chicken legs. |

I’m the same way. I can’t even be bothered to pre order anymore. I find it less frustrating these days to just go on eBay, pay the marked up price as a pay in 4 on PayPal, and that’s that. It’s ridiculous, but the thing I notice is I am never aggravated to do that. I am totally aggravated getting online at a certain time, the item sells out, or I get one and it cancels on me. I’ll just pay the marked up price, luckily there are many options out there to cut the payment down to a manageable sum. It is what it is. I hate to fuel the scalpers but it’s a terrible experience right now all around, I find this to be the least aggravating. |

I think the only way this changes is if enough people band together and say how much we don’t enjoy this system.
It’s the only way to counter act the influencers talking about how great it is to sell out in 8 seconds and how that’s great for collecting.
Now watch some guy come in with “I got all of those, don’t seen an issue” start an argument and get the thread locked.

Still wish it would have been $20.00 plus but it's better than the joke of what's going on with Beefcake right now. JOKE! You quit the hobby but then bought a kama figure? There isn't any technology that can fix the online pre order system. They will sell out in seconds no matter what website they sell them on. |

I have gone to stores and have seen several hard to buy figures and respectfully leave them if I have them so those who want them can get them. I have a job so I don't need to take advantage of people on the scalpers market. I have an appreciation and respect for fellow collectors .... however ... for those who say get over it ... or they will be in the store ... if it was that easy ... I wouldn't waste my time writing about it here. Also, I think it is pretty telling about their dismissive attitude ... perhaps they benefit $$$ from this. This is money I would rather see Mattel get or Ringside or the stores. Not scalpers who take the joy out of this hobby for me. I CAN'T THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH FOR SHARING THAT MANY OF YOU FEEL THE SAME. Again, I am not blaming Mattel ... but they have to see what is happening here and how this potentially can hurt them too. Mcfclee, count me in as one to band together. |

Hogan won't be in the stores. So Patience isn't my problem ... its results that I choose to remedy. Your view on Piper is your view. I can't believe the reveal was yesterday and today it is gone. People say there is nothing we can do ... there is something that could be done. What would be wrong hypothetically if Mattel said if we could get a top 20 list that the fans voted for. After the vote you take the top 10. Show a rendering of those 10 .... I give them my money ... That would be PATIENCE! Mattel could show WWE the demand .. that could help them secure the legends deal and some. Mattel makes money. And they have over a year to execute it. They offer it to anyone in the world. No money left on the table. No middle man. Much like this crowd funding. We would all serve as marketers to try to get as many to buy these figures as possible. If it fails NOW after being around for 10 years and establishing themselves .... then no more complaining by me. The people spoke. |
