The Sail Barge came with a carded Yakface figure that came with a coin. Then they released the exact same figure in TVC line without the coin. That carded yakface sells for hundreds of dollars because it was exclusive to the set, even though it’s the exact same figure that was mass produced. This is how collectibles work.
You guys are saying all of the same things I’ve seen countless times before. “That Ultimate Edition Warrior is stupid. Look at it peg warming! Ha!” As soon as something can’t be had, it has value to the people who actively collect it.
The Sail Barge wasn’t a slam dunk. People complained. Said it was too expensive and wasn’t as demanded as other items. But it squeaked by and now costs $2k on eBay. I actually don’t think this ring is happening, but I’m 100% positive the markup on it will be offensive in no time if it does get made.
I really don’t care. I’ll back it and if it gets made it won’t be my problem. But I would recommend anyone who even kind of wants this should get it now. I actually think people selling this by parting it out is going to make the complete set more valuable. That’s my piece on it.

I think $250 is pretty fair for the 5K tier:
$100 for the ring
$60 for the entrance
$30 for the figure
Buying at retail, you'll factor in gas and taxes. Trade gas for shipping and it seems like $250 is at the very least comparable...
While I like the New Gen Era, I really think Mattel dropped the ball on this one.
Arguably speaking, the biggest boom in wrestling was the Attitude Era.
I see that a lot of collectors pine for the Smackdown "fist" Arena and the WCW Monday Nitro Arena... I think these have the most appeal.
Also, Diesel doesn't have much star power. I'm a huge Diesel fan, but I think a Smackdown Arena with an Ultimate edition Hogan or a Nitro Arena with an Ultimate edition NWO Macho man would have gotten backers quickly.
Still, I think Bill and the team at Mattel have a lot of faith in the collector community support.
Personally, I believe this will be backed at the 5K tier as there will be a flux of backers in the final 48 hours.

If this doesn't happen and then the 4 pack retros are something stupid like $150, Mattel will never do anything WWE with Mattel Creations again. Frankly, if that is the case, then GOOD. |

Honestly Mattel needs some good will after how they’ve botched the rollout to this entire thing.
They should apologise for greedily taking the money in advance and announce that they’ll move forward with production of all tiers for everyone who backs even if they don’t reach the 5000 goal.

i think you guys are underestimating the cost of that entranceway. from what ive gathered from Bill and Steve, that thing is EXPENSIVE to make
the ring is mostly just plastic, and even though its a lot of pieces, its a lot of little pieces....that cant add up to that much more.
personally i wish they had gone a higher-end route, didnt try to create an entrance stage but instead made a ring, with all different ropes/skirts, etc so you could make it look like whatever era you wanted
blue, black & silver poles
red, white, blue ropes (3x ea for mix & match options)
ringskirts from new gen, attitude, etc
blue and black turnbuckles
then load it up with mats, stairs, chairs, announce tables.
literally make this the LAST ring setup you will ever need for ANY era, and have the frame/poles be metal, and the ropes be a better quality, solid boards underneath, etc. make it as authentic as possible
and then you add some figures if you hit tiers

Mattel doesn’t want to make the be all end all ring. Then why would you have to pay them for another one? It’s neat, but I am not a fan of that era, and definitely do not need a 5th toy wrestling ring. Especially for several hundred dollars.
Too bad no Sting WWE figures. A Nitro entrance with Sting and Nash Ultimates would’ve been dimes. Doink and Diesel, not so much…

I don't know if I am being honest.
I think was a questionable first pitch. I really want to be a team player; to hope it opens doorways for more.
I think if the SmackDown Fist was the pitch; take my money right now. With just like a special Batista attire from that time with it. With a scale ring.
Maybe even the 2002-2008 Raw set.
Or like a Attitude Era set that 1998-1999 Raw set; and I think it would of sold like wild fire. With like a Steve Austin/Rock or just someone special Or even WCW Nitro Set with different adaption of Hollywood Hogan or even Goldberg.
I think the New Gen was questionable. Not hating on it; but gods plan I guess.

Hope they make some concessions on the campaign like lowering the Doink and Ringskirts into the 5k mark or extending the funding period to get to the 5k
Agreed that this wouldn't have been my number 1 choice era but still think it's a good offering

I personally think these concessions are the only way to save it, but I don't think they're going to happen based on what Steve said.
I bet Mattel has certain profit numbers they have to hit -- and if they can't -- they rather not do it...

$60 for entrance? No.. more like 80-100, easily.
All I hear is it’s not what they wanted.. well, we aren’t going to get anything else, if we don’t support this.
Even if you don’t want this.. there is no doubt youd be able to make all and more $$ back by reselling it.
People are complaining they don’t have $$ now but sooner or later they will and they’ll end up paying much higher prices to get the entrance and or ring.
