WWE is the problem.

This thread is a little....wild. But I get what you are saying.

My love for figures has only grown over the last year or two. I have a lot of interest in non-wrestling toy lines for the first time in my life. I'm following a lot of toy and figure news and find myself going through toys in retail that I never thought I would be interested in.

But, my WWE figure interest is at an all-time low. I am barely buying any WWE figures because a few reasons, but character choice is certainly up there with it. I'm also very disinterested in the television product so its kind of soured my interest in getting current roster members. I also am having a harder time being disappointed with releases. Most recently, I was really excited for that new Flashback Trish until I saw the Bratz doll headscan. This is just an example of a long term problem that I feel Mattel has struggled with emensally. They make so many poor decisions in these figure lines that I am just disinterested in all of it. I am still loading up on other figures but my WWE Mattel buying days are running thin.

The only must have's for me anymore is the Ultimate Edition line. But I don't even find myself interested in buying figures of my favorites anymore.

It takes two people to sign a deal. We don’t know who all they’ve made offers to only to have been declined. We also don’t know who may be under a deal or have been in the past that Mattel never got around to making.

Mattel early on had the ability to do direct deals. WWE killed that.

The Legends line is a good indicator of either how few Legends they have signed or Mattel really doesn't want variety and they take the easy route. We get Jake and Hall within series of each other (my Target currently has Razor and Hall at the moment warming) and the leaked line ups with DX feels like a huge punt.

It’s not about jobbers. There are many legends that haven’t been made in 10 years that deserve new figures. Demolition, LOD, Rick Martel, Akeem/One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy to name a few. Many weren’t collecting when those were released and they would be huge sellers in the Legends line.

Then why should they make anybody now not named Rollins, Reigns etc? Like they’re making a Goon, Chief Jay Strongbow, they’ve made Mae Young, D-Lo Brown, BushWhackers, Warlord. The mid carders seem to sell better than the ones they make over and over and over.

They’re making these lower card stars in much lower quantities, so the collectors that want them can get them, and the majority of buyers that want the top guys can get them too. Remember, this is still an action figure line mostly supported by the younger crowd, not us. Every day another kid gets old enough to want his or her first Roman Reigns figure. Sometimes the stores order too much for the demand, while other times they might order the same amount and nothing warms the pegs. There’s no exact science to making it work, just trends that manufacturers and distributors try and follow.

And let’s stop with the scalping argument. Now more than ever it’s mostly about the quantity produced, not the figure itself. Some of these people might not even follow that particular brand, but frequent forums like this one to see what we’re all excited about so they know what to go hunting for to try and turn a profit.

I don’t have a lot of room to complain. I swore to the Wrestling Figure Gods if Mattel produced a Ken Shamrock I’d buy as much as I could along with some of his formidable opponents and I did just that. I’d love Dynamite Kid, I would. KoKo. Hercules. King Harley Race. All of them and more. But I got my Shamrock. Can’t complain.
