People also like to pretend that the Hasbro retro line was universally loved and unjustly went away instead of admitting how big of a catastrophic failure it was. It was a failure because they failed to capture any major resemblance to the hasbros, and their character selections were absolutely awful. Even with the reboot, the only figures they've actually added to the era covered by hasbro are Diesel, green Macho Man and purple Undertaker.

Yep Literally going out the gate with series 1 being (as close to) the original orange card series was a no brainier imo Iβm sure both diesel and Mabel were under contract around the time so if you could do 2 of the 4 why not? How is there no bret in the line but Sami who wasnβt even that popular post NXt with modern fans etc etc

Still leaving a second series that could have given us Neidhart, Bret, Mabel.

I can give them the benefit of the doubt with cena, heβs been around for long enough to have appeal to collectors old and new snd also kids - likewise Brock, Goldust, angle, hardyz etc (although more retro attire wouldβve been great) But itβs the Sami, Elias, ryder, braun, Sheamus, Joe, AJ, Finn, ko, new day etc etc They put out some great stuff - austin, kane mankind (although Iβd preferred all brown attire) etc but itβs 50/50 at best.

Yeah, the figures didn't (and still don't) really resemble the old Hasbro's. To me, they seem bloated. The reusing of parts so quickly, the wrestlers they chose to add, they just don't feel like Hasbro's, they feel like cheap knock-offs. The best ones they did, IMO, were Taker and Kane. Series 2 was probably the best wave, but they focused more on attitude era wrestler's when they should have focused on late Hulk-a-Mania era and New Generation era wrestlers. It just seems like they missed the mark on these.

I think it's the only one I kept.

I'll probably end up keeping that Taker and maybe the Diesel figure, since they go with the original Hasbro line. Instead of purchasing these and the other companies that are making Hasbro-style figures, I will probably just purchase the other companies. And, to save money, I'm only going to stick to the guys that fit the old Hasbro line time-frame.

I'm really not big into customs, but I bought his Greg and am very happy with it. His work replicating what would have been with those orange cards looks top notch and would surely fit in better than Mattel's oversized Fake Diesel looking attemp!

I liked what they did to the clothesline adding more articulation so it could also be a stunner etc but the kick was a step back

when Hasbros came out, they were figures of the actual performers in the company. I loved the fact that Mattel used current guys in the Retro line. Could have used a few less "jumpers" but whatever, at least they stand good.
what killed retros was the awful distribution, increasing the price after only a couple series, changing them to come with those ridiculous stands and trying to gimmick them up tied to a stupid app/game that nobody used.
I love the first 10 waves of Retros. ALL of them and I'm incredibly happy they are continuing.

I get wanting a continuation of the Hasbro line but this was a mass produced product sold at multiple retailers. It had to have a broad appeal and not just focus on one particular niche collector base. Problem is that Hasbros were not good figures. They were small, gimmicky, and limited articulation. They had their charm but overall werenβt that fun to play with. No one wanted these other than people who were nostalgic for Hasbro & happened to know they existed. My son was into everything AJ Styles at the time but wanted nothing to do with that fig. Not even when it was clearanced to a couple bucks. This line was doomed to fail at mass retail regardless of what they did.

See my son did like them but heβs grown up with me playing hasbros with him so heβs used to the figure form so heβs probably in the minority. Hasbros are built like tanks so ones I bashed them hell out of 30 years ago which were then chucked in the attic in a bag for 30 years are now being played with by my youngest after the other 2 also bashed the heck out of them and apart from a few actions which donβt click and paint chips theyβre great. Elites have too much articulation for kids and the ly can get frustrated when they donβt stand well etc

I think the choice to do Fast & Furious figures was a bad choice but still not the worst choice they've made. Those Mutants and Monsters lines were really horrible, not to mention the endless list of regular line releases that they ruined.
But as far as this line goes, I think a Marine John Cena would've been a better choice. I also think just a Scorpion King Rock would've been a good move, too. I know its still coming out but that F&F Rock is really worthless. I don't think F&F is really an in-demand franchise anymore because they've just done the movies to death at this point. Wrestling fans might want Hollywood figures of some of their favorites, but I don't think a "jeans and t-shirt" look was the way to go. I wouldn't even buy those on clearance.
But the Roddy and Andre look awesome. I think it was just poor character/design choices on Cena/Rock that ultimately hurt the set.

Plus the Fast movies are one of the biggest movie franchises so it makes sense why they went with those films. But probably coulda picked better looks. Like Rock in his tactical outfit or orange prison jumpsuit and Cena in this

It's just an additional SKU to fill up a planogram in a space Mattel already has available to them. These things come and go.

But these picks sure as hell would've been better than khakis and a navy t-shirt. I like that tactical gear Rock a lot actually.

They have the jumpsuit from Wyatt Family Bryan (just make it orange) and the chains from RSC Kane. Or use the Erik Rowan torso and shorter legs.

I thought the weirdo lines were cool and had some really fun designs in them. I mean, those make more sense to me because they were kid-friendly. These are obviously for collectors, which is why the only ones getting any interest are the cult favorite choices like John Nada and Bigfoot Andre.
F&F is still crazy popular in theater, but it's rarely had merch, so I don't know if there's demand for that (maybe toy cars). But I'm not sure anyone was going to buy into F&F merch for just a couple of characters when those movies had so many characters. I mean, is anyone even going to buy a Hobbs when they're never going to make a Shaw? What's the point of a Cena F&F figure without a Vin Diesel to square off with? A fan of the movies just isn't going to bother.
