100 percent WCW! I was certainly more of a WWF guy, but the Outsiders were freaking awesome and I was desperate to know who their partner would be. Now, when it was Warrior on the team instead of Sid, it may have been a bit tougher of a call for me, but once Warrior was canned, there was not really anything on the card (maybe Austin vs Mero) that interested me a whole lot.
Whereas the WCW show had that main event and at this time I was really getting intrigued by Rey Mysterio so him being on the card was a highlight too.
Also, wasnt this when Shawn Michaels basically chased away the whole of Camp Cornette by himself lol.

Instead of him beating HBK & leaving him laying to create some drama for Summerslam we get Michael's taking the pin but making Vader run away. Awful. But BATB...whoa. as I've said many times I was convinced Bret was the 3rd man because he'd been gone offa WWF TV even longer than Hall & Nash...Hogan wasn't even on my radar & when he came out I never dreamed he'd turn.

Yeah, I remember Bret's name being thrown about. I also remember people thinking it was going to be Sid, since Hall and Nash said their 3rd man was an even "bigger" surprise. But then Sid replaced Warrior, so he was out. After that, a bunch of my friends were certain it was going to be Warrior because of his suspension from the WWF at the time.

At the end of the day, I'm glad Hogan didnt get cold feet.Sting being the 3rd man no doubt wouldve had the same shock value but no way he fits into the leader role like Hogan did.
No question the best heel turn of all time.

No question the best heel turn of all time. Yep. No one else could have fit that role better than Hogan. His turn was huge, people who stopped watching wrestling in the early 90s returned to see a heel Hogan. Sting's turn would have been big, but it wouldn't have had the same impact as Hogan. Plus, had Hogan stayed the babyface, he would have quickly run through the NWO to the point it wouldn't have been as big. The NWO needed to dominate the WCW for a long while for it to work.

A good portion of the fans booed him his entire time in WCW up to that point; it probably didn't help that they were running a lot of the old WCW/JCP/GCW towns.

At the time I thought it may have been Savage that turned as he was no stranger to being a bad guy.
Also, as much as I love The Brain the whole "whose side is he on" type thing he said when Hogan walked down the aisle in retrospect takes a bit of the shine away. I get he was ragging on Hogan like he always did and like the rest of us probably thought there was no way he was going to be the third man..... but still.

This is way tougher than I thought,
I think I am going for WWF, based mainly on the name alone, SummerSlam back then held huge weight with me so to be honest I do not think it would have mattered what WCW would have had on their card. Plus, I was very interested in what the hell a boiler room brawl was.

WWF for me. I think SummerSlam 96 is the only SummerSlam event I have on VHS.

I'm going to go with WCW, barely. The NWO angle had me totally invested, while the WWF was on a downward trend. The boiler room brawl and Paul Bearer's heel turn helps the WWF event, but not enough.
