My rule with basics was/is people who are likely to never get an elite. Thankfully thats not very often anymore. I was never a fan of the basics, especially now with the way they look and stand.

My 2-y/o likes putting them through the tables. So, I prefer he use basics than my beautiful elites and ultimates.

i only buy suited basic figs, but honestly there are a ton of basic figures in attires i really wish we would get in the elite line. i also really liked the championship showdown figures, they put some effort into the figures and attires for those sets--once again would be an amazing elite line concept.

The suited basics figures don’t look all that different to the suited elites tbh.

Gen1 basics are amazing, good articulation, mostly in scale, can be converted into elite (matter of fact that was one of the fun customising things that lured me in).
I used to collect them, but not anymore since they are now backwards, however suited basics I have time for!

Absolutely, of people that don't have Elites at all (Vickie Guerrero) or none of a particular look (recent battle pack Goldberg with shorts)

I used to, but I stopped after a while. I only buy them if I wanna do a headswap with an Elite, or if they made a specific attire as a Basic and not an Elite (usually the case with Rollins).

They’ve been doing some great basics lately. I have way more than i ever thought i would. I mainly just display so they’re great for me to have extra iterations of characters

When I started collecting Mattel figures back in 2013 I was buying more basics than elites. Eventually that changed, to the point that I stopped buying basics altogether. Recently, I have started picking up the odd legend here and there, and I may go back and get some of the figures that I missed out on.
It is generally a fun line to collect. As I don't really "need" any of the figures, I can just grab what I like when I see them.

Nope. Used to pick up an odd one here or there but since the quality of them dropped? I've stopped altogether.
Last one I bought was HHH innthe black shirt & suit. I wanted it to make an AE Mr McMahon....

Yes, it really depends on different factors- often, the basic figures are in gear that hasn't been made in the Elite series, so if it's someone I'm a fan of, I might pick it up. Also, if it's someone who doesn't have the most active in-ring style, I'm cool with a basic figure (i.e. I'm fine with my basic Omos figure unless I get a good deal on the Elite one). Often, someone's debut figure will be in the basic line, too, so If I like that wrestler, I might buy it.

All the elites i have I’ve opened. I keel elites as MOC as I can.

I had a Samoa joe Finn balor from there first nxt basics if I remember there first basics were from a match I think.
Then like 2 weeks ago I updated to cesaro and Seth Rollins elite from there match at wrestlemanina so I can play with

Since I mostly collect women's figures, I buy a ton of basics. If I didn't go in for basics, there'd be a ton of gaps in my collection.
As far as other people, if they're someone I like who isn't going to get an Elite, then yeah. Outside of that, I have every basic and elite of Shane plus one of every unique attire (between elite and basic) of Sami. I'm working on filling out my collection of KO figures but when I get the basics I usually put cloth goods shirts over them because I hate the look of the painted-on torso for him.

I used to. But minimal legends, boring attires, attires missing key details and patterns etc… just meant I got bored. Cheapening out on stuff like Kanes silver studs and bret’s pink trim on his singlet just got frustrating. Sold them all off and don’t bother with Mattel’s at all now, I just get wwe funko’s instead.

No. I only ever bought one and that was Shane McMahon Series WrestleMania 36 because the face scan looked good and needed a Shane for the attitude era collection.
