Got Powertown. Thank you. I appreciate it. Since you and Burt were tight, I have a question that’s always boggled my mind: why was Burt’s hand in a cast at Wrestlemania X? What was the story behind that? Interesting story actually, but the original main event for Wrestlemania X was going to be Burt Reynolds vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Championship. Long story but Burt Reynolds was my best friend. I actually pitched the idea for Burt to be involved in the main event of Wrestlemania X in the fall of 1993 while having dinner at Vince McMahon's house. My friend, Vice President Ed Cohen, introduced me to Vince in the summer of 92 while backstage at the Garden. Over the years, I was able to get in Vince's ear more than once due to my writing credits in the hit TV series Evening Shade. Our meeting in the fall of 1993 came about when Vince needed some fresh ideas for Wrestlemania X and Ed Cohen recommended the three of us brainstorm ideas together. After being flown out of New York to Titan Towers, we held a meeting in Vince's office. (Unrelated, but this was actually when I pitched the idea of Doink and Lawler feuding with midgets. Vince loved that idea.) We ended up moving the meeting to Vince McMahon's house for dinner when I casually mentioned that Burt Reynolds was my best friend. Vince's eyes lit up. Most people don't know this, but Vince McMahon is a huge Burt Reynolds fan. Vince was willing to do anything to get Burt Reynolds in the main event of Wrestlemania X at Madison Square Garden. After realizing Vince was a big fan, I pitched that Vince put the belt on Burt at Wrestlemania X in front of thousands of adoring fans at Madison Square Garden. Vince loved the idea of having an A-List Hollywood actor as his WWF Champion. Knowing Burt, he was a big fan of wrestling and athletics in general, so I had no trouble convincing him that this would be huge for his career. He even gave up his upcoming role as Batman to pursue a new career in professional wrestling. (So you can blame me for Val Kilmer being cast as Batman at the last minute.) Burt secretly trained long and hard for many months in the Hart Dungeon in Canada. According to many members of the Hart family, Burt picked up the art of wrestling quicker than perhaps anyone. I'd go as far as to say he was a total natural and could have been an all-time-great had he not injured his hand. Even though Vince loved Yoko, Yoko was still very, very green. Unfortunately, while training with Burt for their upcoming main event match at Wrestlemania X, Yokozuna accidentally crushed Burt Reynold's hand and forced Burt Reynolds into an early retirement. He ended up keeping the whole thing a secret and told people he injured his hand on the set of Evening Shade. Burt had a lot of pride so he insisted on still being involved in the main event of Wrestlemania X, which explains why he was there but wasn't more involved as people were clamoring for. Trust me, as Burt Reynold's best friend, one of Burt's biggest regrets was not being able to wrestle in the main event of Wrestlemania X at Madison Square Garden.

Laugh all you want, but I have a copy of Because of Burt... right next to my first edition copy of My Friend Adam in my home library and every time the Harts come over they're always very impressed.

Man the more and more I simmer on this the more I get buyers remorse.. Look at it like this 2000 of us are early backers. We're SEEING 5 figures and a stage for the money we dropped and we're like "yeah thats awesome deal"...but then tiers start to missing target and soon we very well could be looking at a great stage and a Rey Mysterio figure that really nobody is clamoring for....for the exact same price as we were thinking/hoping we were getting 5 figures for. Its almost like you're getting punished for being an early backer cause you're thinking/hoping for the loot but likely going to get stuck with a stage & a weak Ultimate figure. You aren’t allowed to simmer. You are going to keep that order until May 4th and a half. If by then it’s not first two tiers you can cancel. But until then you keep old man PJ’s dream alive.

Mattel could have really made this an event like every Monday until the end of the crowd fund reveal what the next tier would be or something g like that. Whoever is marketing this has no idea how to build hype. It’s like here it is…buy it.
This would likely not have worked, because people would be hesitant to back it without knowing what the tiers were.

in an alternate universe, this crowdfund was the raw stage with rock, austin, mankind, undertaker, and kane ultimates and it’s still not fulfilled and the early backer mankind ue didn’t get unlocked
they also wish it would’ve been the wcw nitro stage instead

That would have only worked if they didn’t frontload the offering with the worst figures Imagine not even knowing Steiner, Warrior or DDP were part of it. Even less people would have backed.

I've been lead to believe if this was the Raw stage they'd have moved 15,000 units by now. In another alternate universe the figures were Steiner, Glacier, Mortis, Meng and Savage with a scale Georgia Dome for $150. WFigs still complains.

Everybody went crazy for this when they saw the stage a year ago and everyone begged for it regardless of the figures. Now everyone is crying about this and that and why not this instead of that. If this doesn't get funded then I think you can kiss goodbye all of the wishes and wants of this board. A carton of eggs weren't almost 10 dollars a year ago. Times have changed, the economy is in the crapper and is only gonna get worse. It's time to come to Jesus and realize that last year is radically different than now.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I seen that Steve had said that the Mattel team has maximized the budget on this Nitro Stage. Didn't that happen with the New Generation Arena set where they had maximized the budget before they threw in Macho Man figure with the announce table??

How does this make any sense? We already had the chance to be guaranteed Hogan, Rey and the stage and barely 2,000 people backed it. Those three together isn’t enticing enough for people. For all the people that are waiting until it reaches a certain number are hurting this as well. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t back it first and then cancel if it doesn’t look like it’s reaches your tier versus waiting to back until it reaches the tier. You’re just taking another number away from the total. You won’t get charged yet anyway. They charged me already. No you didn’t. Unless you did the payment plan, you haven’t been charged yet. It’s only a pending charge and you won’t be charged until the project date ends (if it gets fully backed).

IIRC they shifted money from the marketing budget for the project in order to offer Macho.
