They could have gone with some of these guys, but some aren't signed (Wright, Buff, Konan) so they wouldn't have been made anyway. Some figures don't move at regular stores, so they probably wouldn't have been a great fit either. But again, you run into the same problem, even if they went with 5 of these guys, that doesn't mean people would be happy with the figures, they'd be asking where's Hogan, DDP, Steiner, etc. Mattel is kind of in a lose-lose situation. You can't make everyone happy. Regarding the signing, Jakks made like 3 Bagwells without him being signed to the company, perhaps that’s feasible for Mattel? Imagine a set with Steiner and Buff in his overhauls! Jakks had a different deal with the WWE, they (Jakks) could go out and sign any wrestler they wanted themselves without the wrestler having to be signed by the WWE. I believe that was also how the Mattel deal started, but it has not been that way for a while. Mattel cannot make figures unless they are signed to the WWE; they cannot go out and sign anyone they want, they can only pick from the list that the WWE has for them. But yes, Buff and Steiner would have been cool.

I think I said like 100 pages ago, but IMO the issue with figures in this set wasn't the character selection (that's something that can always be debated) but the layout of the tiers. Essentially they took the two most desired Ultimates and made them the third possible figure in Steiner, and the fourth possible figure in DDP, meaning that the project had to get funded plus 2000 and then funded another 2000 (beyond the number New Gen got) just to get both of them. I understand how crowdfunding worked, but I think that was the big ask.

The legends deal crap has done such a disservice to collectors. Needs changed.

Jakks signed their own talent. And when Mattel first got the license they signed their own talent also (Macho, Von Erich’s, Steamboat & Warrior) But now Mattel can only make who the WWE has signed to a legends/merchandise deal and even then the WWE has to approve who is made. Yep earlier on in this thread it was mentioned mattel could sign people but chose not to for financial reasons. Steve’s just re-confirmed that isn’t the case. Hopefully that puts that to rest (at least for this thread) for good - we can wish cast all we want but if they sing signed they ain’t getting a figure

I won't even be able to display it, slim or not. I need something out of this that I would've wanted. And that's Steiner. And you are 100% right about the figure choices. Nothing wrong with that. The placement ,(and attire choice for Hogan imo) were the issue. Rey didn't cut it for me. And I already had Hogan. Belt is nice but it would've came out elsewhere. I backed new gen because I wanted everything except Doink. Doink is cool, but I don't care really to have his figure. This set, is a big ask for most people. These cruiserweights? Can cruiser wait, Brother.

What if this gets 98 percent funded? Does it still go ahead?

I understand how crowdfunding worked, but I think that was the big ask. That’s the thing with the crowd funding being new, there’s a lot of trial and error and experimenting needed. If they put those 2 earlier it may have stalled then and not reached higher tiers so there no perfect answer. It really needs another crowdfund or 2 before mattel are confident on a formula Like there will no doubt be an average % of people who drop out for reasons unrelated to the project itself (they backed from fomo but second thought un-backed it, they just changed their mind, personal reasons etc) but at the minute that’s probably very rough. Once they’re say 5 projects in they’ll be able to predict that drop out rate much better etc

Many other better options to go with I don't know if I fully agree there. Like neither would be a first choice of mine, but both of them are certainly integral to Nitro. Again, I think the bigger issue was the placement. If the figures were the exact same attires and design, but it was: Rey - 5000 Early Bird Steiner - 5000 unlock level. DDP - 7000 DDP Hogan - 9000 Warrior - 11000 I truly believe it would be doing much healthier right now (though I still don't know if it hits 11,000). I have no idea if that lineup would have been feasible, but judging by most reactions to the set so far, it would have alleviated many people's issues.

Rey could’ve easily been swapped out for either one of the outsiders or Eddy Guerrero. Hogan while integral, wasn’t needed because we have so many being released, also they shoodl Probably get his skin tone correct. This one looks like he smeared pasta sauce all over himself lol

Even then there’s influence from WWE on who to do One thing I think people always seem to overlook with this is that even when Jakks was signing people on their own, they would have still needed to get WWE approval to make them in looks WWE owned and released under the WWE banner. I just don’t think WWE were that concerned back then and prob have most a “yeah” unless there were real issues. But there’s so many variables - people reference jakks but they lost the license over 20 years ago! For one It was a very different time from a socio-political perspective. Someone with a troubled past or controversy in say early 2000 would get a very different reaction if done today.

Also on an another topic. Anybody else notice that the Steve marks have disappeared with him? lol. They were all just here to pucker up and defend his non-answers, everybody who’s left now seems to be after a serious conversation and discussion. Nah man that’s just you. Most everyone here recognizes the effort that goes into these things and also understands that it’s more to it than just “Gimmie x,y, and z!! Make it $250 like the new Gen and let’s group them all into the base 5k tier cause then that’s really the value!!” Most everyone here can recognize that the stage itself is the $400 value. Like others, after trying to explain it to people many times and them still not getting it - you give up. International customers issue? Absolutely I agree with them - however everyone forgets Steve has said, multiple times, that he’s telling us the response he was given and has passed the feedback along from us. He’s done what he can do. The figures in each tier? He’s given us logical and reasonable responses that they are added incentives. Are they all the choices that we would have liked? No - but for it to be profitable for them AND still give us extra with the stage it was selected strategically. End of the day, we are collectors. We aren’t working with mattel and their team. Most of us aren’t qualified for their positions and wouldn’t even begin to know the ins and outs of their day to day business and all of the marks they have to hit for a product to get the green light. On top of that, I’m AMAZED Steve bothers coming back here after all of the harassment he gets on the board when trying to interact and collect feedback. Not everyone’s questions get answered, most move on and realize it will get picked up somewhere else by someone posting the exact same core question, just gotta be willing to do some reading. Those that don’t move on keep coming back whining and complains “boo goo Steve ignored me!” “Steve, answer MY question !” As others have said, after the way he was talked to a few nights back, most would have told the board here “screw it” and done it their way without interacting or collecting feedback. If you’re THAT unhappy with things, then just leave. Stop caring about this project. Move on. Realize that he’s doing this out of his free time trying to help.
