Still available after 30 minutes. Wonder if showing off Long, Cone, and Mr T figures yesterday hurt the demand of the ref version of Ali amongst WWE collectors. It's possible. If they would have shown off literally any golden era ref yesterday other than Ali, I would have sat this one out. Maybe with the exception of it being a BAF in a series that had absolutely no one I wanted in it.

Plain and simple, Mattel WWE figure’s biggest customers are WWE figure fans. This just wasn’t a must have for collectors. Especially being Ultimate Edition with the price point.
I think the only reason collectors would want it is to display the WM1 main event.

Yeah even tho I was pumped for this figure and immediately preordered it when it went it up I must admit that Ali doesn’t hit the same nostalgia vibes. When I think of the first Mania, he’s definitely not one of the first things I remember. And his match with Inoki was a few days before I born.

Totally forgot about this but still managed to grab mine. Like others not my favorite choice but still as a collector of the Ultimate line I felt like I still needed to grab one.

Glad that whoever wants Ali can get it, but not for me. I wish slaughter had been like this a couple years ago 😶

I would much rather have it go like this where it stays up for a while than the NHB or Sarge exclusives that sell out in a minute.

Well, the question of how in demand this is is finally answered.
I hope Mattel learns from this -- their newest Retro set with him still irks me. Fans do not want it.

No one ever asked for a Muhammad Ali figure in a wrestling line. No one wants to pay 70 plus shipping for figures that will not fit in with a wrestling display and a pretty box. He's a legend but he didn't have that much impact on a wrestling fan growing up like Cyndi or Mr T. Fail.

I really thought I would buy the Ali set but I just haven’t been able to truly justify it on any one of my shelves

It will be a cool addition to the shelf and after the David Burns Ali documentary last(?) year I’ve been fascinated by Muhammad Ali. I want Mattel to crank out more boxers and pop culture figures that fit flawlessly with my WWE figures.

Yeah, this Ali set is only peripherally tied to wrestling, so that is a big sign of the lack of desire for this. Now, if they had included an actual Hogan figure in the box instead of the picture, it would have sold out. In fact, a 'sweaty head' Hogan modeled after the exact picture in the pacakging would have made this a much more definite purchase for the majority of people here.
That said, I got 2. I will open the ref version for display, hope for an eventual Inoki figure from somewhere to display with the boxer Ali, and hold onto a packaged version for down the road.

Why is everyone saying Ali isn't in demand or wasn't wanted - when we have NO IDEA how many they made?? Honestly, they could have seen the demand/trouble people had last year and doubled (or even trebled) the quantities for all we know...
And personally, I think his Retro figure fits in brilliantly with the other Retros they've been doing.

People are knocking on Mattel for the choice, but if you look at every single SDCC exclusive figure they did for the 12 Days of Fandom on MC, they are all still available. That makes it pretty clear to me that they just produced more of each exclusive this year.

Honestly, they could have seen the demand/trouble people had last year and doubled (or even trebled) the quantities for all we know... And personally, I think his Retro figure fits in brilliantly with the other Retros they've been doing. The backstory for that one poster is that he only wants New Genish/MNW retros and not figures of looks/themes before Hasbro got the license. He's mad that they are doing another WM 1 themed set and since he doesn't want it, he thinks no one wants it. He is hoping that it doesn't sell/claiming that it won't sell as well as New Gen themed sets (because he doesn't want it to) even though he doesn't have access to any of Mattels numbers. Regarding the retros, I would have preferred Captain Lou to be in the set since we got Wendi. Maybe Studds contract is going to be up soon so they want to push him out. I totally get while Ali is in it though - they should be releasing as much as they can while they have someone that big signed. I think it would have been cool to get a set consisting of a male wrestler, first female, first referee, and a manager.
