Why do they have to be WWE licensed? They’re still officially licensed deals and for elite scale they give us collectors the opportunity to fill gaps in our collection that Mattel can’t because of WWE! Dynamite from Chella fits great next to Bulldog and their Sabu will be a great addition - I’m very much looking forward to Jarrett coming from Zombie’s 6” to fill another gap. Good chances now we’ll get to complete powers of pain, I hear a Brooklyn brawler is in the works and maybe we’ll get a Val Venis, Gangrel etc that many of us have been asking for.
As far as Retros go, again, an opportunity to extend the Hasbro line that’s many of us love and Zombie’s are an absolute perfect fit, they poop all over Mattel retros.

I couldn’t put like a heels and faces fig on my hasbro shelf They just don’t fit. Which is ultimately why I never bought into them (in addition to ZST as a human, and his price gauging). If a company came along that actually nailed the hasbros aesthetic to the extent it was indistinguishable from a genuine one, I’d buy it. I’m lucky enough to have the hasbro set complete - I don’t display zombies with them just because I want to keep the Hasbro set together on its own but anyone who says zombies don’t fit needs their eyes testing, they’re absolutely perfect fit…they’re literally designed by the guy who designed the Hasbros. I put Jarrett and Bravo in my detolf just to see and they didn’t stand out at all, seamless. |

For me, it depends on the quality. Some of them, like the recent PowerTown figures, are incredible quality and some of the best figures I’ve seen.
Sadly, in my opinion, most other figures look like glorified customs sold at exorbitant prices. $80 for a goofy looking Earl Hebner (plus shipping) or a cheap looking Conrad Thompson Bendem is not something I’m interested in.
[Also cracks me up that each and every one of these collections seems forced to include Myers and MidCardona in their line ups.]

While I do wish the scale was more compatible with Mattel, I think what Powertown is doing - a high-end series that celebrates the history of pro wrestling, is much more appropriate for their roster than “officially licensed WWE” figures would be. When I think Verne Gagne, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, or Lou Thesz, I definitely don’t think “WWE.”
As for Hasbro-style figures, that line of figures ended for me with the green card series, and anything else just doesn’t fit in. The only modern “retro” style figure I own is Danhausen, and that’s because, come on, it’s a Hasbro-style Danhausen.
I also think the “Big Rubber Guys” look very promising, but they seem to be a little too detailed to truly fit in with LJNs

So when you go to the grocery store you only buy name brands? Just the big vendors? Nothing off brand, nothing "local"....same difference. Just because a certain logo isn't on it doesn't mean it's not a quality product. Generic brand goods are often the same quality as name brand goods for a fraction of the cost. |

He looks and acts like Tito Ortiz bunghole younger brother and needs to take a class in customer service skills. This is a joke, right? Please tell me you know there's way more to wrestling than just WWE. Sorry if I offended anyone. Im Just curious. Im Always tempted to purchase figures from Turtles, Connan - but I have never justified in my head a reason to buy a figure from these other wrestling toy companies. Also im assuming that they are higher priced than WWE Mattel figures, am I right? It's all good, I'm not offended, and I don't mean to be abrupt. But this is like the golden age of wrestling figures PRECISELY because we have so many options at the moment. It rules. That comparison is not exactly the right comparison, in my opinion. There is way more to wrestling than just WWE, both then and now. I think the point that could be made is if other companies were making, say, Ahmed Johnson, without the rights to the wrestler himself. That would suck and be unethical. But these companies are paying the wrestlers for their likeness so they have every right to make them. These aren't bootlegs we're talking about here. (Also, to your point ... I don't display any modern retro figures (Mattels, Zombie Sailor, etc.) alongside Hasbros, or Powertown next to Mattels. I treat them as their own separate things.) WWE itself had a ton of different companies over the years. Hasbro, Jakks, now Mattel. I had Hasbros as a kid, and it would be weird if I refused to buy Mattels because I had to remain loyal to Hasbro for some odd reason. I love AEW and New Japan. So I buy AEW and New Japan figures, as well as Mattels. Powertown is making figures of guys from the 70s and 80s; back then there were tons of promotions around the world, not just WWF. A lot of those wrestlers never really were in WWF in the first place. Mid-Atlantic/Crockett (eventually became WCW), Mid-South, World Class, Stampede, etc. You can watch a lot of these promotions on the Network actually if you're not familiar; they were awesome. Embrace the variety! I've been collecting these things forever and this time is wild and fun. |

People can buy whatever the hell they want with their money.
I’ve got some old Hasbros, WCW Toybiz, Jakks Classics, Storm collectables and of course Mattel. Don’t think any are any more or less figures than the others. Pending on who is announced for the ZST 6 inch line, I’ll probably jump on! (LOD LOD lol)
I learnt a looooonnng time ago, the key to enjoying this hobby is buying for your own enjoyment, not to impress others!

Why do people collect figures from other companies (Owertown, Heels and Faces etc)? I never understood it. Why would you want to get a Dino Bravo, Dynamite Kid, Ahmed Johnson from a line that isn't official WWE licence? To me they just seem like makeshift, stand in figures. Im curious to know why people collect them. To play off your previous post: I hope Adrian Adonis' estate goes with Powertown over Mattel. Personal preference. |

I don't care what company makes it, if it looks good, is a need for the collection, or i just like it, i'll get it.
Of course for certain talent, it'll be the only way to get them.
I think it's safe to say Mattel & WWE aren't making a Bruiser Brody, or Sabu any time soon, so the Powertown Brody, and whatever company's doing that Sabu are the best options (and they look fantastic).
Same goes with AEW talent. I'll get every Brodie they do, any Punk they put out, and whenever they make Jay White, that'll be an instant buy also.

A lot of them fit in seamlessly with the Mattel scale and look so it's not a noticeable difference. I have the Chella Dynamite Kid and it looks great. If I stuck purely to WWE licenced options there's only really the Jakks Classic one, which does not fit in with Mattel very well.

What a weird question. Do you not have any sting figures that aren’t licensed by the wwe? Not to mention these figures look good. Not to mention that they are licensed by the wrestlers themselves. Not to mention it’s the only way we can get these figures since wwe ain’t making them. Not to mention it’s my collection and I can add to it whatever I’d like.

I'm a fan of wrestling, not WWE. My collection reflects eras I enjoyed along with some of the all-time greats. We have numerous companies making figures in close enough style and scale that they look good together.
Mattel's own scale and style has been far from consistent over their run. So I don't mind mixing in other companies. They don't look any more out of place than having one of the older womens figures next to the new micro scale or having an older Mattel figure with a poorly painted face next a UE with TrueFx.

I do because WWE isn't the be-all, end-all of professional wrestling. I've been watching wrestling pretty religiously since the early 90s and at no point has WWE been my favorite wrestling company. Why should I limit myself to only what they produce, when they've made it clear they're not going to produce everything?

I think the Andre is probably the exception (although it’s not in hand) that headscuplt looks incredible but possibly a little too good…however, the Jarrett and Bravo work perfectly, the Booger that’s coming looks like it will too and so too the Bundy. There will be exceptions but Hasbro sculpts and details were actually pretty awesome, especially for the age, the paint let them down a little but people who try to dumb down retro figures to fit in are way off, that’s where Mattel have gone wrong, Hasbro series 1 figures look a million times better than a Mattel retro in terms of likeness and detail. |
