It's the same sort of thing when I see "Marvel Legends" and people will mix comic book appearances with the movie figures. To me it doesn't go together and I would separate it in my own collection, but that's just my look at it. And those are even the same toy line.

-Because they’re fans of wrestling and wrestling figures. -Because Mattel isn’t the only company. -Because wrestling exists outside of the scope in which Mattel operates. -Because they enjoy different scales. -Because they’re not just fans of toys standing on shelves. -Because they want to. So what do you think the mattel fanboys will say when mattel goes bankrupt or hasbro buys them ? Anyway the more companies we have making wrestling figures of people mattel "Can't sign" the better. The more competition we have the better.

Their Barbie movie is expected to be a huge hit and they are going to have more of their properties in movies than Hasbro soon.

When done right, it’s more like mixing Marvel Select in with Marvel Legends. Different scale and different company sure, but if you put a Marvel Select Hulk with your ML Avengers, it’ll blend in fine. I have a Bullet Club/NJPW shelf with elites, ultimates, Jazwares and Super 7. Custom shirts and accessories do a world of wonder to help mix them together.

The execution on them is very different to hasbros. Compare the two Andres. It’s apples and oranges. Only similarity is the size. Proportions, finish, detail, material are completely different I mean, how many years down the line are we? Hasbro would have evolved. I think the Andre is probably the exception (although it’s not in hand) that headscuplt looks incredible but possibly a little too good…however, the Jarrett and Bravo work perfectly, the Booger that’s coming looks like it will too and so too the Bundy. There will be exceptions but Hasbro sculpts and details were actually pretty awesome, especially for the age, the paint let them down a little but people who try to dumb down retro figures to fit in are way off, that’s where Mattel have gone wrong, Hasbro series 1 figures look a million times better than a Mattel retro in terms of likeness and detail. I think whatever floats your boat is fine, but just talking personally that none of these lines have produced figures that actually fit the hasbro style properly IMO. I think when they’ve done figures that we’re previously covered it’s a good example of it, LOD are similarly upcoming. As for JJ, honestly it has one of the worst looking heads I’ve ever seen on a figure. Dazsedge’s orange card customs blow away what any of these companies have done IMO.

I figure as long as the figures look 'close enough' to each other in my collection, I am happy.
When Mattel took over from Jakks Pacific, I originally wasn't going to dive in - I mean we had the expansive Collector's Series, and Mattel wasn't going to top it. Well, early enough they announced the initial Legends series, and added Rick Steamboat and Randy Macho Man Savage, two who had never been done by Jakks so that brought me in. But I still display some of my CS series with Mattel, even though they are not 100% perfect with each other. Now, we have Powertown, and the same thing - they don't 100% fit in with Mattel & CS (and AEW for that matter), but for my taste, it is close enough. That is why I am all over the new Powertown company and hope it can have long lasting legs.
As far as Mattel not signing these people - they are simply not 'big enough' names for them to go through the cost of the Legends deal. The Legends deal doesn't just cover figures, it also covers shirts and other merch, and I would assume that means that there would be X number of appearances for one thing or another. You didn't see the Steiner's pop up in NXT a few times just because of Bron, I am sure it was part of the Legends deal.
The wrinkle in this in my eyes is the new contract that the Headbangers signed. These are not 'Legends' Contracts, they are 'Nostalgia' Contracts. I haven't heard anything about these and what the differences are, but it very well may be some sort of 'lesser' contract than the full on Legends contracts, and depending on what is contained therein, could open the door for some more lesser known figures. Like the Fatu & Samu Legends figure now out at Target. Fatu would have been made anytime as I am sure Rikishi is a full on Legends contract, but Samu wasn't. I can't imagine this is a big enough name, so that may be a 'Nostalgia' contract.
The other factor in these names is that both WWE and Mattel are big name, publicly owned companies. So 'bad press' is another factor that they both need to take in. Which is why we saw a quick action of distancing themselves from Hulk Hogan in 2016 when the video was leaked. They also distanced themselves from Ric Flair over the 'Planeride from hell' episode of Dark Side of the Ring. Those are both big nationally known names. So lesser names like Dino Bravo, Gino Hernandez, Adrian Adonis, even Fabulous Moolah now, are not going to get made by Mattel because of the combination of 'bad press' and they are not 'big enough names'. That is just how big public corporations work.
Now, the good news in all this is that we see these smaller companies form and they ARE willing to make these figures, because they don't have to worry about public outcry because these are not meant to be on the shelf at Target or Walmart, like WWE and AEW figures.
I am almost thinking this could be a new 'golden age' of wrestling figures, based mainly on the success of the first wave of the Powertown figures. If they are a full on success, and they can keep putting out the 'lesser named' wrestlers with that much quality per figure, within a few years, the figure collection will be quite comprehensive.
Just because it is not official WWE merchandise, doesn't mean it doesn't fit into my collection. But of course everyone collects differently, but based on the responses here, it seems that the majority thing that collecting outside of Mattel is very much a thing.

Peter Pan Honey isnt bad for things like crackers but thats about as far as I can go with them. Regular Peter Pan just tastes too nutty to me if that makes sense. I hope it’s Skippy creamy Peanut Butter. Peter Pan is acceptable in a pinch. But the is it. Oh! And thanks 11:45 at night an all this peanut butter talk made me go make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. lol JIF creamy actually...However I will say Skippy Creamy is the closet Ive found that tastes like it. Last year or two JIF/Smuckers had a big recall and Jif was impossible to find. I tried other brands to no avail but I could deal with Skippy. It wasnt terrible. Here’s a couple “Fun Facts” my wife learned last night watching “The History of Peanut Butter” on the Food Network. Jif was controversial because they were the first PB to use vegetable oil and not peanut oil. And Skippy and Peter Pan was originated back in WWII because it didn’t need to be refrigerated and was a food ration for the soldiers.

Unfortunately we do and I hate it. I hate it so much that sometimes I will open a new jar and keep it out. lol because refrigerating it sometimes makes it too hard to spread without breaking the bread apart.

I was blown away when I saw my wife does this years ago. Makes no sense. Absolutely rips the bread to shreds when applying. I put a stop to the madness thankfully.

Peanut Butter…a real thread saver! This thread was spiraling out of control until Nivro™ brought up peanut butter. Now it’s thriving.

Look, I don't care what you collect or how you display it. Whatever makes people happy, brah. But I WILL NOT stand for peanut butter in the fridge. That is borderline psychotic.

I’m no fan of fridge PB but it’s gotta be better than that all natural PB that’s super oily where you have to stir every time.

Not really for me either, but I try every so often to convince myself that it's okay because it would be easier. Really it is fine, if your collection makes you happy then there's nothing wrong with it. A buddy of mine likes mixing in all his old Jakks figures with his Mattel and Jazzwares figure. Some people will legitimately never be made by Mattel so you essentially have three options if you can't live without some essential names: become a quality (to your taste) custom maker, pay a custom maker or buy something from another company.
Personally it doesn't make me enjoy my collection more and that's the rub. I tried it with some ZST and Chella retros when that line was on ice, but now that it's back I lost all interest in the 3rd party stuff. Maybe my life would be better if I was able to shake that anal aspect of my collecting and enjoy mixing all the figures, but as it stands I am that person and I like knowing all of my figures in a collection are of a type. That makes me enjoy my collection more, so as of today that's the right answer for me.

I would never do custom I hope. It reminds me of when I was playing WCW Revenge on N64 with someone and they claimed that they could easily create Sid Vicious on the game. I was like "wow, really?! How??!" And he was like "well.....do you need Curt Hennig"? (Implying that he was going to sacrifice Curt Hennig to just put black trunks on him and make him look like Sid Vicious). I was like "bleep of course I need Curt Hennig"!
