I have the SDCC exclusive Sargeant Slaughter coming in today that I spent just over 100 bucks on. Unfortunately I started collecting just after that release so I missed it but it makes me wonder what's the most y'all have overpaid for a figure?

I thought the Elite 77 Fiend was going to be really hard to find when it came out. Bought one for 34.99 off ringside. Walked into my local Walmart and found 3 hanging on the pegs for 15.97 back when elites were randomly cheap af at Walmart. This isn’t by any means a bad overpay it just stung as i literally hit checkout and then saw them hanging 😂😂

I live in the UK and I'm very fortunate we don't have native Americans here. A very unfortunate practice for the scalpee. 😀.

Don't feel too bad, it sold out immediately and a lot of people on here that wanted it did not get it for retail.

Yeah I've heard it was a pain to get, I'm just glad I waited until it dipped a little and didn't get it at 200 bucks like it was sitting at last year

I think I paid like $80 for the Elite 17 Zack Ryder at New York Comic Con 2012.

Maybe like $40-50 for silver and purple chase DiBiase is probably the most I overpaid for a Mattel. I have found practically everything I’ve ever needed at retail with the exception of that fig.

A few times but im usually patient and research prices beforehand. But when it happens it def stings. Worst is when you buy something reg price and then you find it at ollies haha.

I couldn't wait for the Amazon UE Hogan.... I paid evilBay scalp price (and came with warped lower torso so it had a gap) and now it is reduced on Amazon and I didn't even like it (I like 80's UE Hogan way better)

This is the craziest thing I ever did. I paid $300 for the first Mattel Elite Scale Ring in 2013. It was so irresponsible. The box was sealed, but had some bad wear and tear and the ring base was split on one edge. I don’t know if it was a manufacturing defect, got damaged in shipping to the retail store or to me or if someone fell on the box. It didn’t look like the ring box was resealed. But I kept it because it was the only sealed one I could find. I managed to close up the split pretty well with duct tape and the ring still holds up to this day. But it wasn’t worth $300. Why?
Because 3 months after I bought it Wicked Cool Toys unveiled the Authentic Scale Ring for like $60 or $80. And to make matters worse, Mattel’s online store suddenly started stocking the original Elite Scale Ring for $60 even though it was out of stock for 2 or 3 years at that point. Yeah, I bought another one. So I ended up with 2 original Mattel Elite Scale Rings. A pristine one I paid $60 for and a busted up one I paid $300 for. I’m glad I have an extra, but I could’ve bought 2 for $120 from Mattel. But I didn’t know Mattel would magically find extra stock. I didn’t know Wicked Cool Toys existed and was about to start making scale rings.

I wouldn't consider it being scalped, but I paid $70 for the Legion of Doom loose. That is/was probably about as high as I'm willing to go on a Mattel figure.
I started collecting about 5 years into the line, but a lot of figures could still be had for at or below retail. Most of the most expensive purchases were tag teams - $50 for the Rockers, $30 for Bushwackers, $40 for Demolition, and $70 for LOD. I passed on Texas Tornado, Akeem, and Martel at their prices at the time.
Now those prices would be an absolute steal. But I'm happy with my collection and just hold out slim hope some of these will get remade some day.

If it's worth it to you, I wouldn't consider it being scalped. I paid $80 for the Ultimate Edition RA RVD. It was worth it because I never saw him in stores. I paid $60 or $70 for Elite 48 Cactus Jack. Again, worth it. And for the record, I'm not a scalper. The only time I've sold figures is when I regrettably sold my collection, twice. Took a loss both times.

As I understand it the crossover appeal to classified collectors made it incredibly sought after

Still looking for Animal for less than 150 bucks

I've never regretted it but it's not fun watching my balance to down you know

Other than poorly anticipating how easy a figure would be to obtain and impulsively preordering on RSC, the most I've spent on a single figure was $75 shipped for an AEW Unrivaled 6 Jericho Chase. Otherwise I've either found everything I wanted, or went without. The only thing I feel I've really missed on was the RA Elite Bischoff. Harley and John Nada were up there, but both got rereleased and I found both of them at retail.

This thread isn’t going to end well. Classic response. Just bringing the matches hoping to start the fire... How is this not considered trolling? Anyway, to give a productive response, I would say anything that is exclusive to Walmart. I purchased almost every Ruthless Aggression elite from Paul Mart. I luckily found 4 in person, but the rest were online exclusives to me.

What some consider “scalping”, others don’t. It’s all subject to the person asking. But who knows, maybe it’ll be different this time.
