I actually never saw Titanic.
I love Depp, but if Pirates never came along, this debate would never have been brought up

Its not that tough to understand.

Depp hands down. Cry Baby, Donnie Brasco, Benny and Joon(very under rated), Pirates of course and so many many more.
DiCaprio is really good and nothing shines for him like The Departed and Titanic. But dont forget Blood Diamond and Catch Me If You Can. Both very under rated IMO.

Its not that tough to understand. Actually, Depp has been extremely consistent in his career. Look at all the characters he plays.....bizarre and/or twisted/conflicted, off the wall. He brings them to life. Just b/c Pirates was produced by Disney.......he is still playing the same sort of character. Pirates didnt might have brought Depp to main stream.......but its certainly not what he intended to do. He wasnt trying to become a main stream actor all of the sudden. Look at the movies Depp has taken since Pirates......Sweeney Todd, Finding Neverland......characters still remain to be the same as his previous tale.

Actually, people are still missing the point, you named characters AFTER Pirates, which was my point, Pirates reinvented him, and opened him up to many other roles.
This is a bad comparison, because Leo is not in the same category as Johnny Depp, they arent in the same acting category like Deniro and Pacino. Like I said before, Matt Damon would be a good comparison to Leonardo DiCarprio, not Johnny Depp.

That's a tough one. Johnny Depp is arguably the great actor ever. However, I am going to go with DiCaprio just because he is arguably the most underrated actor ever.

Like I said before, Matt Damon would be a good comparison to Leonardo DiCarprio, not Johnny Depp. While I agree he hasn't been in the greatest of films throughout his career, Pirates NEVER opened up more doors for him. He has had many opportunities before and after that film came out. He's has always been an actor that chooses his own destination on what roles he accepts, which why he quit 21 jump St early on to pursue a film career. He always manages to make a bad film decent because of his performances (ie From Hell, Secret Window, Ninth Gate ect..) and doesn't base his decisions on who' directing(with maybe the exception of Burton) or the budget, BUT on what role he finds appealing. Leo has really never been in a position to fail, just look at his last five films. Three directed by Scorsese, one by Spielberg and another I haven't seen in Blood Diamond but was just as successful and with a big budget that's going to be pushed harder by the production companies. Leo is bound to stumble when directors start looking for a fresh face, but that shouldn't reflect on what type of actor he is, just as Depp's films shouldn't his.

They're both two of the best actors of our generation, but Depp could play any role possible. He could play a convincing 14-year-old girl. I only like 6 DiCaprio movies, and a crapload of Depp movies.

How can you leave Catch Me If you Can and Blood Diamond off of Leo's list? I was gonna mention Catch Me If You Can, he was incredible in that. I gotta vote Leo.
