Mr. Perfect, he did win the AWA title, but he needed the WWF or WCW world title.

So are we only counting WWE?
Cause Curt Hennig was AWA world champion.
Anyway, I say Roddy Piper. He's one of my favorites of all time. Also Rick Rude, though that's arguable. He won the WCW international title, which wasn't a real world title at the time, as it lost it's status a couple weeks prior to his win.

How is Piper not on your list?
The man should have held the WWF World Title for 2 years. The level heel he was, buildings would have sold out on the main event alone just so people could see if someone could finally take the title.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper I truly believe he is the most underated wrestler of all time. Ditto, Piper was easily the top guy after Hogan in the 80's.

It's easily Piper. The only other guy who would come close might be Dibiase or Scott Hall. Dibiase lacked the "it" factor and Hall had all kinds of personal problems that we're all very aware of.
People forget that while Hogan was the top face during the 80's, Piper was the top heel. He could've easily carried the company and would've done a far better job of it than anyone else you've listed.

On the list, I'd say Owen Hart for sure.
Dark horse canadate for champ personally would have been Brian Pillman. I would have loved to see his character with the championship.

Curt Hennig won the AWA World Title. to madness1: Ricky Steamboat held the NWA World Owen Hart most definitely. He was great on the mic. His matches with Bret were great. I think he was better than Bret. Better flier, better on the mic, did all the same moves. They should of put the world title on him instead of making him The Blue Bafoon. At the least they could of put the world title on him winning it from Bret then months later Bret would win the rumble and win it back.
