The Thunderlips card reads Appleworks, unlike the other Rocky III figures that do read Phoenix Toys. Oh that's interesting. Did Phoenix Toys turn into Appleworks at some point? Was Thunderlips a post-83 release? I remember there were catalog pics for a ring and Ivan Drago, which I guess was 85 so maybe that was Appleworks by then. In 1986 Phoenix Toys released a stuffed Rocky doll for Rocky IV, so they were still around.

Definitely before Remco, LJN and even before Appleworks who released Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips as well as his wrestling ring for the Rocky III toyline. Appleworks? Don't you mean Phoenix Toys? The Thunderlips card reads Appleworks, unlike the other Rocky III figures that do read Phoenix Toys.

I could never understand the playability aspects of Popy, the light, hollow plastic coupled with the way they were moulded into that superhero pose... But I get the attraction for other collectors, especially for display. I chose OSFTM, simply because nobody else did and I wanted to show my appreciation for the company. From the LJN style WCW figures,of which Vader remains one of my favourite figures, to the CMLL line that brought us the likes of Ultimo Dragon and Vampiro, right up to the ECW line that I adored. Vibrating WCW figures not withstanding. Well LJN, OSFTM rubber figures or Galoob had less playability... I never understood why LJN chose that style for their WWF figures, why not their Advanced Dungeons & Dragons style?

Definitely before Remco, LJN and even before Appleworks who released Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips as well as his wrestling ring for the Rocky III toyline. Popy released 10 figures for their "Super Professional Wrestling" line in 1981. All 10 were released in Japan where they were wrestling at the time: Abdullah the Butcher, Andre the Giant, Antonio Inoki, Bob Backlund, Dory Funk Jr., Harley Race, Hulk Hogan, Mil Mascaras, Stan Hansen and Terry Funk. The figures stand 5.5" and have articulation at the shoulders and waist. I own all 10 loose. Hogan was the first Popy I owned and still my favorite. View AttachmentWhat is the feel of them? They look like very hard plastic, are they hollow or is there a weight to them? They're very light, hollow.

Japanese toy company who did figures in the early 80s - maybe before awa remcos? I believe they did hogans rookie figure and other Japanese wrestlers and usa wrestlers who spent time in Japan like Harley race, funks, andre, backlund, hansen etc Come with a card too I believe Definitely before Remco, LJN and even before Appleworks who released Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips as well as his wrestling ring for the Rocky III toyline. View AttachmentMy first 2 figures, got them in 1989 or 1990: Hulk Hogan and Big John Studd, funny story; it'd take until 2002 before I realised it was Studd, not Hercules. View AttachmentIn December 2020 I finally bought the Wrestler Ring. See those drawn on glasses on Studd, I mean Brut? It's on EVERY box I've seen. I think I had this! Do you know if it was ever released as a set with the ring and those two figures? I got this or something very similar in summer 1991 or 1992, as a prize from an amusement arcade. I thought the dark haired guy was a Macho Man knock-off. I've never seen this ring packed with these figures. However other bootleg/generic lines in the MOTU-style exist under the name "Wrestling Champions", one of the better "Wrestling Champions" is by a company called Madison LTD. Their line consists of 12 named wrestlers and a ring that comes with 1 or 2 figures and a championship belt. One of their wrestlers - "Bone Crusher" Powerful Pete - could pass as a bootleg Macho Man.

Well there ARE Galoob bootlegs: View Attachment2" Hasbro & Galoob bootlegs. Those seem more like kinnikuman keshi knockoffs. Basically yes, they blatantly copied some Hasbros & Galoobs as solid figures and shrunk them to 2".

Something I've been wondering lately is why we didn't see any Galoob bootlegs. Remco and Hasbro's styles were copied, so why not Galoob? I'd assume, maybe incorrectly, that it's a pretty straightforward style to replicate, it's just solid plastic, no moving parts, etc. Has anyone ever had a random figure in this style? It's pretty unique when you consider it. Closest I've seen is a figure which I still own, it's like a MOTU bootleg, but hard plastic, with a little more flexibility than a Galoob. It's a blue, muscular looking Skeletor fella. I always used him as a Galoob. I have absolutely no idea where I got him or what box it was in. 🤷 Well there ARE Galoob bootlegs: Attachment Deleted2" Hasbro & Galoob bootlegs.

Mannix was larger than I expected; not to scale with Hasbros (I always thought they were roughly the same size). Simbas are fun but a bit spendy to find them in good condition. Not quite bootleg but I think OverTop Man series is a lot of fun. Cartoonish…maybe culturally insensitive. But they are obtainable and somewhat unique/rarely discussed. They look like MOTU knock offs. I have a friend who knows all about Bootleg He-Man figures Nah, Overtop Man and later the knockoffs by Mannix look nothing like MOTU knockoffs.

My very first wrestling figures were bootleg figures from a line called "Wrestling Champs", they clearly copied part of LJN's Wrestling Superstars series 1 they even bootlegged the card art! It featured 6 wrestlers in the MOTU-style but with fixed legs: long haired Andre the Giant (as Mark), Big John Studd (as Brut), Hulk Hogan (as C.G), the Iron Sheik (as Mask), "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka (as A. Champ) and as a 6th figure a bootleg from a MOTU inspired line that kind of looked like the Missing Link (as Mr. Unknown). The cardback had nice drawings with the 6 wrestlers and their strange names under them. The top left had a nice logo reading "Wrestler". These bootleggers even scaled down the LJN ring and released it as "Wrestler Ring". Attachment DeletedMy first 2 figures, got them in 1989 or 1990: Hulk Hogan and Big John Studd, funny story; it'd take until 2002 before I realised it was Studd, not Hercules. Attachment DeletedIn December 2020 I finally bought the Wrestler Ring. See those drawn on glasses on Studd, I mean Brut? It's on EVERY box I've seen. In 2015 I discovered there was a bootleg line called "Wrestler" by Sungold pre-dating these "Wrestling Champs" using the same weird names. This line bootlegged the Remco AWA line: fully poseable figures with cloth jackets (all the same, just another color) and their own title belts (3 Television Champion and 3 World Champion, a nice little touch!). It had (Ric Flair as Mark) and Scott Hall (as C.G). Like there’s one I’ve seen in a line wrestling champions which is clearly a reused pirate figure (eye patch, cliched pirate moustache) on a muscular body with wrestling trunks and boots. It almost looks like it would’ve been a pirate figure and all they did is remove his sword/accessories and his soft goods and call it a wrestler 😆 I think you just described the modified Iron Sheik bootleg.

Considering the retro line did one, and zst teased one, would people be interested in a chella ring? If so for which of the lines? Or bases for the bone crushers? Or are people just displaying in shelves? I'd definitely love a ring, a simple scaled one would do! A cage would be nice as well.

Well, maybe you're speaking out of nostalgia or your OCD standards have a will of their own, but Hasbros were off as well at times: Rick Rude is way too skinny, Nailz looks like a midget not a 6'5" man, Bret Hart looks too buff, ... The aim for a company line this cannot be to fill missing spots of poor figures like Rick Rude (yet the overall Hasbro scale wasn’t that off). The aim has to be adding great figures. The problem is that there isn’t even a real style. The figures are just inconsistent. Put Aldis, Hayabusa, Meanie and Dynamite next to each other and you wouldn’t believe these are all from the same company. Hayabusa and Switchblade are fantastic releases although they are a little bit too big. Meanie and Shernoff were quite good aswell and nearly perfect in scale. What’s the reason for the weird body proportions on Dynamite and Page? This should not happen anymore. I am still all in on this, but if they keep releasing lower quality products I may sell the stuff before it loses its value. Still at the time Hasbro released the WWF figures, Hasbro was already an established company. Yet they made mistakes. Chella is up and coming at best, you can't expect them to be perfect... Will compare Chella figures as soon as I have more than just Nick Aldis.

As much as I love all these companies doing these hasbro inspired figures, the execution on them just isn't up to my OCD standards. I feel like I might try and track down the simba bootlegs as they do reuse the same molds so they'd fit in with the hasbros better. Well, maybe you're speaking out of nostalgia or your OCD standards have a will of their own, but Hasbros were off as well at times: Rick Rude is way too skinny, Nailz looks like a midget not a 6'5" man, Bret Hart looks too buff, ...

I think it's great to get a part of the Rougeau Dynasty: Eddie Auger, Johnny Rougeau, Jacques Rougeau Sr., Ray Rougeau, Jacques Rougeau Jr. and Armand Rougeau! Curious how they'll turn out, wouldn't count on the Remco style: Zoloworld L.L.C. owns those molds... Do you know much about the family? I only know the brothers and also heard a lot of good stuff about jaques’ son but that’s about it - we’re the elder family well known in their day? Well Eddie Auger also wrestled as Pierre LaSalle and held the NWA Texas tag-belts with Mad Dog Vachon.
