I know what your thinking, "Not another ing Batman Topic", but come on, there seems to be a good portion of Batfans on this board, however this isn't a TDK, or TDKR thread, or even a Batman89 thread, this is for what was supposed to be the 5th Batman film, slated for a 1999 release, and to be called Batman Triumphant, sure there have been many rumors and speculation, but some things do keep on croping up, so yea, lets go through them, cause I'm guessing this may interest more people on here than just myself. So yea, after B&R looked very promising (and at the start, it did, check out the teaser, looks amazing) Warner started lookng towards a fifth, which would bring it back to a darker tone, the constant thing that does stay is that the villians would have been Man-Bat and Scarecrow, with, the Joker returning via a fear dream from Scarecrow, with Harley as his wife, infact, its said that Nicholson had actually been contacted and agreed to it, actually its said that he had lobbied to be in another Batfilm for years. Anyway, thats kinda what is kinda set in stone, or atleast was at the time, but it was to get darker, Batgirl was to get killed off in the first 15 pages of the script, Robin was now Nightwing, and Batman was semi-retired. However, with Man-Bat terrorising the city, Batman was to come back and help Nightwing defeat Man-Bat. I also read that Jervis Tetch was set to appear too, however it's unkown if he was to become Mad-Hatter or not, but to me, that would have been insane. Below is what was a prototype for the new Batlogo, well, Film Logo; Now, sure, this is all rumor, however mostly all include this info, I know it doesn't make this true, but to me, it sounds plausable, and tbh, quite great, and would have shot some life into the franchise again, and hopefully sent it in to a state where it was unstoppable, like the Bond franchise, this way, it would have made better use of villians, and really kept alot of people interested.

Sounds pretty cool. Still, I am happy with the way Nolan was rebooted the franchise, and this being made COULD have delayed his Batman movies. Very interesting, though.

This sounds like it could have been awesome if done right and I love that logo.
Hopefully Nolan explores this kind of thing soon, I would love me a proper dark Batman film.

That logo is awful, and the rest of it doesn't sound too good either.

I always talk about Batman Triumphant with my friends, because I wish they had made it. It would have been a freaking awesome disaster. They actually were talking about Howard Stern as Scarecrow. I still wish they had made it though, just so I could laugh at it.

First off -
I hate the logo, it's completely overkill.
The movie, had it been made, I would have seen it and probably would own it on 2-disc special edition like I do the other Bat-films from the Burton/Schumacher era.
Still, though, I am pretty sure it would have been awful. I mean, after Batman & Robin, would George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell wanted to be in another disastrous Batman film made solely to sell toys?
But what if they had gone the darker route? I'd be curious to see how that would play out, given how the entire Bat-universe seemed like it changed between two of the movies.
Even as a kid, it didn't feel like Batman Forever was a sequel to Batman Returns. To me, it seemed like the original two movies took place in one dark, dreary continuity, while the second two took place in an entirely different universe which was bright, neon, and corny. And even the Burton movies seem like they could be completely different continuities, given Burton's more hands-on role in "Returns" (which I think is obvious, just by the look of the film).
So, would this 5th movie be a return to the tone of the first two movies? Or go in a completely different, independent direction altogether?
Some food for thought...

I'd imagine given the total revenue from B&R, they'd go with a different director. However, I don't imagine it would have looked any different. Perhaps more Batman Forever, as far as a "darker" but still kid friendly Gotham that WB was going for.

I was 5 when Batman and Robin came out, and I thought it was the best movie ever. But after watching the first 3 (Forever was good IMO) I noticed how crapty it was.
Triumphant sounded epic, but that was only because of the little info that we were given...too bad we never found out what could have been...

I found out a couple of years ago that I prefer Batman & Robin over Batman Forever, if only because B&R is self-aware. It's got that same campiness that the '60s TV series had. Batman Forever had the same kind of silliness, but it was unintentional.
The Riddler was just Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey. Zany, off-the-wall, and (IMO) annoying. Two-Face, who should have been a violent criminal with a sense of morality, was a Joker rip-off. He even goes against the very essence of Two-Face by disregarding his coin flip at one point.
Batman & Robin, however, is basically the same exact movie, but just altered to be a lot campier and kid-friendly.

I gotta be honest, I love Forever, I'd rank it up there as the 4th best Bat film, also I like B&R too, sure its very child related at times, but hell, I accept it for what it is, and enjoy it for what it is

The logo is interesting. Im sure the movie itself would have been interesting too. But I am glad Nolan got his hands on it and injected the Batman name with some credibility.

I would've loved these films to continue. I feel that this set of Bat films had the best chance of getting to see my favorite bat-villian (clayface) make a live action debut. I think with the CGI these days it could work, but he doesn't fit in Nolan's universe

This movie sounds like it would have been amazing, I'm depressed that it never came to fruition. I especially like the part about Batgirl getting killed off and Jack Nicholson returning as the Joker. And that new Batman logo looks freakin' amazing. I actually want to get a tattoo of that. I also heard that Jeff Goldblum was supposed to be the Scarecrow, that would've been cool. The reboot is awesome and I'm glad it was made, but I grew up with these films and I would have loved to see them continued, if it wasn't for that ing idiot Shoemaker ruining the franchise though. Also, I never get sick of the Batman threads.

I think with the CGI these days it could work, but he doesn't fit in Nolan's universe I agree wholeheartedly. Clayface wouldn't fit in the newer movies. Nor would Killer Croc, unless they played him up as a big guy with a weird skin condition or something. But in the older series, Clayface could have fit in alright. Who could play Clayface? I'd say Ron Perlman - he's got the big guy build, plus his voice acting on the Animated Series is a great representation of Clayface IMO.

Who knows? Maybe after Nolan's movies wrap up they'll continue with the 90s series and Batman Triumphant will see the light of day now that the Batman franchise has been revived. I mean the thought of there never being another Batman movie doesn't sit too well with me.

I could see another series of Batman films down the line..but I think we're talking years from now I really am interested in how they would bring back the Joker after his massive plunge to death. It would be neat to see how they would write that. If they do make another movie after Nolan is done, I'd absolutely see it. I'm a bat-fan through and through no matter how good, bad, or horrible the films could be. Grayson was a movie I always wanted to see be made...I'm a big Robin fan, shame we won't see him in Nolan's universe

I think that's a very good way to have him return.
