I'm not straight edge. I want the experiences of those feelings in my life. I enjoy alcohol and trust myself to be sensible with it.

I'm having thoughts of doing so, after qutting Weed from 3 years of abuse I'm just getting over the need for a fake "buzz", would much rather enjoy the buzz you get from acheiving things in life. But only time will tell....

I've been Straight Edged my whole life, I have only had about 3 sips of alcohol and never touched any drugs. I don't know any one else in a 50 mile radius that is also straight edged, which sucks, but to each's own.

I have never done recreational drugs and only 1 time have I taken OTC pain killer in like 3-4 years. Never drank and have had plenty of opportunities as when my family has beer its not hid anywhere. Its in plain site where anyone can get it and I'm home alone most of the time. I am not into the music though nor most mainstream music. I listen to christian music and wrestling themes only pretty much. So I guess I am not straight edge but someone needs to invent a term for whatever the hell I am.

24 going on 25: I've never had a single drink, smoke or used any recreational drugs in my entire life. I'm not into the punk subculture roots of it, nor do I like tattoos, but when it comes to the core values, I have them down. Meanings and definitions change over time. In my book, straight edge has grown as a term for people who make the lifelong commitment to this. I don't like saying 'clean' or 'sober 'because that implies you used to have a problem. I never did, and I take that seriously, because I've had various relationships crumble over this commitment.
All my remaining friends drink. But they don't make it a problem, so I don't make it a problem. It's that simple.

I've been Straight Edge ways before Punk came with this gimmick as well. I've never touched to drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes, but I have a terrible addiction to smoke. I don't know why but I wanna try to smoke so bad. At the same time, when I'm in my way to buy a cigarette, my head starts telling me to don't do it. If I'm 'Straight Edge', I won't have to do drugs, smoke or drink. What an antagonization.

It's pretty easy to be straight edge at 13...let's give him another 5-8 years and see how he does.

I know right, but lots of buddies smoke, do drugs and drink, and at 13. They asked lots of times if I wanted some. But I just say no. And yeah, I can get cigarettes at 13, 12 or whatever the hell my age is. Wouldn't cost more than 2 cents.

No I am not straight edge I drink occassionally and have tried cigarettes as it is easy to get these things when you are 15/16 in the uk as others have said most the teenagers who say they are straight edge are probably 13 who think they are but have never had the choice really

Either you're friends are lying or I feel really sorry you surround yourself by these people at 13 and think their parents should be ashamed to be a part of the human race.

I hate the way the original post was worded. You came off as terribly holier than thou, not just from your little sXe perspective, but from a punk perspective, too, and that annoys the ever loving sin out of me. I was straight edge* up until I entered this thread, but I'm gonna go break my edge now just so I'm not associated with that sort of stigma.
* If any of you actually believed I was straight edge prior to reading this thread, you're doing it wrong.

Dude, I am 30 and when I was in high school (1995-1999), lots of my friends were Straight Edge. I hope none of you think this "movement" is anything new.. it wasn't even new then.... and you don't have to be down with that music to be Straight Edge. That's just the people who popularized it. Don't be trendy.
Also - for the record, most of those Straight Edge kids I hung out with ended up being alcoholics or drug addicts.

Some of my friends would classify me as "the one who doesn't drink", but I wouldn't classify myself as straight edge. All through out high school I stayed away from drinking, and never gave into my friends when they pressured me about it. But when I started college, I got drunk once and woke up hating myself. I don't plan on being drunk ever again, but I'll have a drink every once and a great while with friends.

I like the music, but I have zero interest in the movement. I don't want to be a part of any sort of group/movement that tells me I cannot do something, especially like not taking medication. That just seems foolish to me, and for everything else, I don't need some sort of set guidelines that tell me how to live my life; I can make the right decisions by myself.

alright i am confused about the lifestyle of a Straight Edger. Since i find alcohol and drugs to be stupid and I am also a virgin(until i meet the right girl), Does it mean i am considered Straight Edge? I have also heard of the bands but never new they are for those who follow Straight Edge lifestyles. If pain killers and other medicine are considered bad, can you take them as by the amount prescribed, without gaining an addiction? I don't take medicine that helps with headaches and colds because i believe that when i workout it seems to heal and go away(which it usually does). Also, if your not suppose to take drugs, when seriously injured and thus being hospitalized, do those drugs break your lifestyle? These are just questions that float around my head. Since i am against drugs and alcohol but don't like the music, what am i? Oh yeah its wierd that we need to label a lifestyle. its just something i did, having no idea there was a term for people who also do it, makes me a follower!BULL

I considered myself straight edge for quite a few years but then started hanging out with different people. I don't smoke or do any kind of drugs but I've been known to drink from time to time but I don't get hammered. I did once and I never will again.
