I'm taking the comments by 15 year old "straight edge" kids with a pinch of salt. It's easy to say all these things when you're young. These days, 15 years old can get the stuff pretty easily. I've been places and left because 15 and 16 year olds were drunk, getting high, and doing pills outside.

I'm 19 & I've never drank, smoked or took drugs. It's never appealed to me & it never will. It's not something that I'd enjoy or want to do.
And I've never labelled myself "Straight Edge" because of it. Too many mindless sheep seem to do it solely because of CM Punk.

Well let's be serious here, on a wrestling message board what is more likely, people calling themselves straight edge because of a song that was written in the 1980's by an obscure punk band, or because a well known, well liked wrestler is claiming it? Now don't jump the gun and assume I am putting down anyone, or that I don't believe SOME people aren't actually into the music/lifestyle... but more often than not I have a pretty hard time believing the majority of kids on here found out about straight edge through an avenue other than CM Punk.

I consider myself straight edge, I don't think I HAVE to label myself but it's apart of the way I want to live. I've never drank or smoked or anything and I never plan on doing any of that until the day I die. I'm into my fair share of the music scene and I would never push my beliefs on anyone else.
the term itself has become a fad and I'm hesitant to use it in conversation for fear of the "Like that wrestler guy.. cm punk?"

I'm not, I started drinking after I turned 21. I went to college with a lot of straight edge people so I understand & respect the lifestyle.

I grew up listening to a lot of hardcore and it just kind of naturally fell into place after seeing all my friends around my age start "experimenting." I have been since I was 14 years old. I'm going on 22 right now. I've never done a thing in my life. I'm not an bunghole about it, my girlfriend drinks and occasionally smokes. Most of my friends are pretty big pot heads. In fact, I can think of only one person I talk to that doesn't really do anything. Their choice. People who say you can't be straight edge and under 21 are ing stupid. You can easily get access to anything you want.

Straight Edge since 1987...the year I was born. I never touch anything bad for me. Except some ladies, but I will gladly take that shame.

You and I are just a like when it comes to this topic only Ive had sex with one girl my long time gf. And I don't have ADD but do take anti-depressants. I don't like when people call them self straight edge because they don't drink, smoke ,or do drugs straight edge is more than that its a music scene and much more. What really grinds my gears is when people claim they're straight edge because they're clean. There is a difference. Clean = being clean, no desire to do anything, while allowing one self to possibly partake in drinking/smoking, etc Straight edge= Being clean, but taking on the responsibility of never doing any of it. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs to get high. I Do take prescription medication, because i need to, like ADD medication and anti-depressants, but I don't abuse them. I don't have promiscuous sex. I've only had sex with 2 girls in my life, both whom I was in a relationship with. I don't claim to be straight edge to be cool, I'm straight edge because it's whats best for me. I also have never touched any of the "poisons" I have been clean for all my life and decided I will be for the rest of my life.

I'm still waiting for the O/P to describe a "proper" punk/hardcore show. I mean a real punk band show. Not like punk-pop or whatever, and taking place in a small venue. No barriers/security, just chaos really. You have Every Time I Die in your signature, and your "gateway" band into punk rock did my wedding song, which was deemed acceptable enough to play in front of my 80 year old grandparents, my extended Catholic family, and my wife's devout grandmother. Forgive me if I take every lecture you make on the "chaos" of punk rock with a grain of salt.

Whatever gets you through the day. Being "edge" or not doesn't make anyone any better than anyone. I will say, I am 37, and I never heard of "straight edge" until CM Punk, and I probably wouldn't have if not for him. When I was younger, people didn't define themselves as anything. They just said, "no thanks, I don't drink/do drugs."
Edge? Good for you. Not edge? Good for you too.

I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do anything. I don't go out after dark and never have. Nothing good happens after dark. If that is straight edge than I am that.

I fall more into the Daniel Bryan not eating animals than the CM Punk Str8 Edge. Mainly because I do drink. Drinking is something I do occasionally. Other than that, I am fairly straight edge.

Well, if you're a vegan or vegetarian I hope you know about Isinglass filters, and which companies use, and don't use them.

But, it is like that with 99% of everything I buy to eat/drink. It is insane how much stuff uses animals to make. Refined sugar usually gets processed with animal bones. It gets frustrating, sometimes. The less processed, the better.

I dont float around saying Im edge but ill state it if people ask why i dont, its easier than saying a mouthful of things you dont do and why you dont.
