i said it a few weeks back.. people have stopped buying retail and WWE figs in general. the price and the outdated attires is what i can point my finger to. Also add QC in there. But also i think WWE isnt as popular now either. Arent they still losing ratings each week? i havent checked in a few weeks, but i can remeber when people were buying alot of figs but ive never seen so many people "quitting" collecting on here than i have over the last 2 years. Some peoples stores are different but i know out of 3 wallys and 2 targets and 1 TRU and 1 Kmart , around me, nothing moves. unlike it used to be. Raw is losing but I think Smackdown is gaining, literally exactly like the first draft While I do find Smackdown the more entertaining show, I'd bet Raws ratings are lower because they have more competition on Mondays than Smackdown does on Tuesdays.

We need a topic called "Post pictures from your local Smyth's." I need to see evidence of these gold mines. That is from one of @speaktomewarriors recent trips. ...Good lord.

And because it's a three hour show and it sucks. I've stopped watching Raw entirely, and it's affected my interest in Smackdown too

it's been a really rough year at my Walmart for WWE figures. we did really good around Easter because we had a PDQ of a series that we didn't get until that point. And it all sold out however the shelves got clogged with John Cena's and Big Shows. also a lot of Bray Wyatt's but he sold out after he came back on TV. unfortunately the elites have been the same for the past 10 months now. full of Damien mizdow, Sycho Sid, Daniel Bryan in the Wyatt family gear. tons of two packs of Undertaker and Bray but we finally got Bushwackers and McMahon and Austin. It seems only the new figures fly off the shelf. we even have a big slow down on the zombie figures oddly. they were selling really fast then we got more & more cases and now they're just sitting there and it sucks. I really hope that the Christmas rush and buying last-minute gifts for certain kids will wipe some of that out.

TBH I'm losing interest due to the lack of new Elites here in Canada. I guess being stuck with E39 for nearly a year does that to you.

They sure are. It is due to poor distribution [U.S.} and awful paint jobs. 3 guys I know, all serious collectors unloaded their Mattel collections this year and all 3 blamed it on rereleases, Distribution and QC. I am getting to the point where I might hang it up as well. Both of my Harlem Heat figures had various problems and i'm tired of repairing 4 out of 5 new figures. It's sad really.

I can add this, four big charities have already made their Christmas trips this year and they all barely bought anything from the boys or girl's sections of my TRU. They spent most of their time and money on preschool and learning. Normally they buy some WWE figures, TMNT figures and Nerf items. This year all of them said the interest was way down last year and most toy requests coming in were for toddler toys.

I agree that they are probably losing popularity. Because these lines are either aimed at adult collectors who want legends and quality figures, and are getting what they need without a second or third release of the same, or kids who might be looking for their favorites, and don't want the older stars.
Mattel seems to pump out a good dose of both of these categories, but they mass produce so many guys, you end up with the glut a lot of folks are talking about. My local Wal Mart is still crowded with past series, they've even given up and put the basics up on top of an aisle, they've become so overstocked. Battle backs are also backed up, and they appear to have only gotten the recent Then, Now, Forever and Zombie lines. Even those were only given a fourth of an aisle, and don't seem to be moving. Add in the big price drop with Elites and battle packs for $15, and it means there may be some oversaturation right now that has to be fought through.

In Canada its pretty obvious why figures don't sell.... the price of them!
Its $16 a basic, $30 for a battle pack, $25 for an elite at Walmart, yet at Toys R Us I think elites are close to $30. And this is all before taxes too!
So a lot of parents can't afford to buy figures for their kids anymore.
When Jakks were making WWE figures 10 years ago, an RA line figure was like $8.99 and the Classic figures were $12.99. And somehow Mattel basics are more expensive than both of those prices here in Canada.

The new stuff flies off the shelves here. Problem is... we haven't had new stuff in awhile.
I've never even seen Elite 42 in stores.
Last Basic set was series 61 and that was only at a Target for a couple days.
BP 40 was the last two packs.
Besides the Zombies, the TRU Roman, and a few odd old case assortments... we've been dry as a bone here.

Things certainly seem to have cooled off here in Cajun Country. Granted, I only collect the Elite line and other Elite-style figures, but there's very little new stuff at retail, outside of the Zombies stuff. E42 has only hit a couple of Walgreen's in town. Walmarts are still choking on E39 and earlier waves and my Targets are finally running out of their old stock, except for the 4H pack. TRU skips over whole waves of Elites (a case or two of E41 is the last of that line I've seen) and seems to be constantly stocking new Network Spotlight figures, though they don't seem to be selling. Lots of Helmsley, BBM, and Ringmasters taking up space.

Figures are less popular but stars are also overly popular. Balor, Owens, Zayn etc are stars that sell and the problem is the series also gets lumbered with legends that younger kids probably haven't heard of so shops aren't going to buy a whole assortment for 1 figure. Well KO is one of the biggest warmers in my local Smyths and it's his best figure IMO. I also don't think that the Legends are the problem. During the Jakks days we had the CS series which lasted for 28 series and consisted of guys who were less known to kids then a lot of Mattel's Legends. So basically the CS series was a success for Jakks so surely kids bought them so why not Mattel's flashbacks?

Figures don't warm at Smyths in Bristol , they always restock and have good selection but as soon as a new set hits the place goes nuts , people were taking whole sets of e44 and e45 and there's practically none left! Older characters and legends are the problem- whilst they are my favourite a lot of young kids are not so in to them. Like what 10 year old needs the 3 faces of tugboat??? Some are destined for the shelf forever....sting is a prime example, great for collectors but kids don't want a 25 year character in all of his attires and parents don't want to pay for another John cena just cause his hat is a different colour My Smyths has had e44 for a couple of weeks and they still up top in their cases because their is no room for them on the pegs. Out of interest does your Smyths currently have buy 2 get 1 free in WWE?

Yes, they're less popular, that's why they're ending the Elite line. Wait, what? They're ending the Elite line... When? I genuinely must have missed that.

And somehow Mattel basics are more expensive than both of those prices here in Canada. In the UK an Elite is £18.99, a Basic £10.99 and battlepack £21.99. Now that IMO is way too expensive because they're meant to be toys action figures for kids so if a child gives their parents a santa list at Christmas that consists of WWE figures it would bleed them dry. When I was a kid a BCA figure was £4.99 and a 2-pack £8.99. For 1 Elite now you could buy 4 BCA's back then at the similar price.

My local Smyths in Bromborough, Wirral, is always extremely well stocked, just like the picture posted in this thread. However, the stock rotates quite a lot, with more popular figures selling quickly. There are still shelf warmers, though, like Sid and Umaga. In general, they seem to sell well.

That was said tongue-in-cheek in reference to all the people saying that statement is true and flying off the handle based on their own assumptions.

When I think of Walmart, I think of folks trying to "save money, live better." Elites are expensive. The majority of your Walmart shoppers probably don't want to spend $20 on one figure, when they can spend $10 for a basic. Therefore, when they do buy an Elite, they will likely be picky and choosy. They aren't buying Adam Rose or another Daniel Bryan. Their kid already has a Daniel Bryan basic anyway.
