I have a friend who still hunts for meat. He hunts deer, gets it all butchered up and doesn't ever buy meat at the store. Why should he be hurt? Some people like to hunt as a hobby also. I personally don't but why hurt those who do and are responsible. It feels like you're saying somebody's hobby is more important than saving lives. Nobody needs to hunt anymore these days. They sure as hell don't need assault rifles to do it. Assault rifles aren't needed but hunting is needed to keep the population of certain animals down. We would have way more car hitting deer if we didn't have hunting. But hunting is usually with permits and training.

I also never said he needed or anyone needs an assault rifle. So people who go shooting or hunting for food/fun and abide by gun laws shouldn't be able to have guns? Yet if you outlaw them the bad people will always somehow get them. You lock your doors everyday to keep the honest person out, the guy who wants to get in will find a way. Remember that

I get that hunting is needed to control populations, or even just for other reasons. But I don't see why you would need to own a gun for that. People who play paintball don't generally own paintball guns, they rent them for the day on location. Maybe if local authorities need help hunting certain animals then they could lend you a gun for the day, with proper checks of course (i.e. if you're currently legally allowed to own a gun you pass that check immediately.) Same thing goes if you just want to fire guns on a range.
I heard something on TV yesterday from a guy who says that the main reason why the population have so many guns is to fight back against the army/police force if the country ever becomes a police state or those organisations go rogue. Yeah, 'cos that'll work...A bunch of rednecks up against a heavily fortified, well trained outfit. This is not North Korea where everyone is under the thumb. You're safe from your country ever becoming like that.
I can understand wanting to defend yourself against an armed assailant but the truth is, if he sees you pull out a gun in response, he's gonna open fire. However if you just remain calm and allow him to rob your store or whatever then no lives are lost and the police will track him down in due course. It's not worth risking your life for whatever's in the cash register.

The fact that there's still people defending guns regardless of the lives lost is utterly ridiculous

This is ing ridiculous. I’m not for banning guns altogether, but security needs to be improved EVERYWHERE. There’s no reason someone should be able to have even been able to get into a position to do sh*t like this. i agree with this. i live in FL and i dont know the exact name but there is a school where they have security now to check the kids before entering the school for weapons TBH, I think all major public buildings should have security similar to the school you mentioned. Hotels, stores, restaurants, etc... All it takes is one psycho to take hundreds of innocent lives.

I just want to get rid of assault rifles. It's insane you can just go to a store and buy one. What does anybody need one for? To protect yourself from an army, like in the lame ass old movie Red Dawn?

I believe we are entitled to be able to carry a handgun for protection, but ffs why is it necessary for people to easily be able to purchase semi-automatic rifles and assault rifles? THERE IS ZERO NEED. Don't give me the hunter's excuse bullcrap. It's 2017, this country is very developed and I'd say there are few places left where people actually HAVE to hunt to eat and survive. It's a ludicrous excuse, among all the other insane defenses by the good ole boys at the NRA. Look at Australia's gun control restrictions after 1996. It works, but people don't want to hear it. There needs to be an extremely tight background/psychological clearance process to owning handguns, and needs to be a ban on semi-auto assault rifles. but why do you need a gun when you’re out publicly in the first place? are Americans that scared of each other? lived here in Canada my whole life without a handgun, am yet to need one. same goes for literally every other person I know. like the thIng is literally designed to end human life...why on earth does a civilian need that to be ready for use when they’re out in public? are people really that naiive to not realize this obsession with guns to cure fear just results in more gun violence? It all depends on where you live in my opinion. I live in a city with a high crime/armed crime rate. I always have my gun in a readily accessible place in my house. I don't carry it because I never felt the need to BUT, the way this world is going, it may be a good idea to carry

Anything to make it harder for these crazy douchebags to do stuff like this.

The fact that people think stricter gun laws and gun control is going to stop gun violence is utterly ridiculous. Nobody logically thinks it will stop all gun violence. But it likely would dramatically decrease it if done thoroughly and effectively. And just because it might not work, doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

An assault rifle or automatic should be outlawed though. 100% agree

America.... Don't be like the UK. We have no right to self-preservation in this country. If a home intruder breaks into your house here, you are completely unable by law to defend yourself. You are ed. The police are not adequate protection, they cannot save you in time. If you truly love and want to protect your family, hold on to the rights you have and never let any one take them away from you. We may have low gun crime rates, but we have some of the highest violent crime rates in the WORLD. The highest in Europe. Higher than America. A gun can be a device to inflict great damage. They also save countless lives every year. France has strict gun laws, that did not stop 86 people from dying at the hands of a terror attack in Nice, where nearly 500 additional people were injured. BY A TRUCK. Vehicles are becoming an extremely popular and efficient way for terrorists to kill large numbers of people. Should we outlaw them, also? By taking away guns, you will ONLY be taking away guns from people who will use them for self-preservation. Terrorists will still illegally acquire guns. The government will still have them, and we've seen countless times throughout history; governments turning tyrannical. It can still happen. Look at Catalonia and Spain. America is one of few countries that still allows its citizens the human right of PROTECTING THEMSELVES.

No one needs a gun, except for people who live way out in the sticks and to deal with bears and crap. Guns have been a part of our culture since this country was founded. Guns and religion. Unfortunately many Americans grossly overestimate the importance of each. There's a ridiculous misconception that our war for independence with Brittan was fought and won solely by a rag tag group of untrained farmers with nothing but a gun and a prayer. The reality of the war would not have been won -- and this country wouldn't exist -- if it weren't for the French army.

The United States averages 1.3 mass shootings PER DAY and we have well over 30,000 gun deaths per year. The fact that people think stricter gun laws and gun control is going to stop gun violence is utterly ridiculous. Like democratic socialism, stricter gun laws have worked literally everywhere they've been tried.

Our freedom to own firearms has ZERO to do with hobbies.. ZERO to do with hunting. It is about giving citizens a fighting chance against an out of control government. If you don't think the US government wants complete control of its citizens, you're extremely naive. We are stock.
